Food trucks are great! I was pleasantly surprised with this truck. I am pretty observant, but I definitely didn't notice the "Asian-Mexican" infusion part. But that was definitely the best part! I ended up ordering the breakfast burrito with beef. The beef was super juicy and had a sweet flavor. There were also eggs, cabbage, hash browns, sauce, and additional hot sauce to add a lil spice.
My only recommendation would be to add a bigger or brighter Asian/Korean & Mexican infusion sign. A few customers around us were s little, I guess confused, by the cabbage and sweeter spices. I, however, was completely satisfied.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 11, 2016
Pretty good experience! They were parked right in front of The Bruery in Placentia, and my bf and I decided to grab a bite to eat while having beer.
They let us sample the meat before we ordered to help us decide what we wanted--very nice! They recommended the quesadillas and burritos, but we weren't feeling those dishes at the moment. In the end, we got 2 tacos (spicy pork +short rib) and a loaded fries (short rib), which came out to be $12.50.
The loaded fries weren't particularly impressive. It had meat and cheese on top, and they gave us ketchup and Sriracha on the side. I did like how the fries were super fresh though! Hot and crisp, just the way I like it. The tacos were okay-good. I wish there was more of a complex flavor in it. I consider it to be on the "cleaner" side of tacos.
I got to try the short rib quesadilla from a friend, and I throughly enjoyed that. Next time, I will definitely get that instead (like what they recommended in the beginning haha).Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 10, 2010
Truck Load of Yum.
Tacos? Whatevers. Tacos are Tacos and no Korean gimmick can compensate for a great taco.
BUT!!! The quesadilla..wow. Yum. No, Super Yum. No...UNFRICKENBELIEVABLY Superyummylicious! Love spreading the cheese between these tortillas. Not just cheese, but kimchi loaded cheese. Nice!
Quesadillas make this truck a gem. Yup, They Take Credit Cards!!!

@CalbiBBQ! Ahh so it's only been recently that I've been trying out all these food trucks. I've never tried the whole Korean/Mexican fusion food craze and so I was excited to see Calbi at the Women's Expo
I got the pork taco for $1.99 plus a 10% discount...lol woohoo to 20 cents of savings ;).
The pork taco was delicious! Yummy spicy pork with cheese on a corn tortilla. The sweet and spicy sauce mixed in with their vegetable garnish was really tasty. It was fairly spicy and I needed a beverage along with my taco. I think my only complaint was that it was small and I was craving for more :). I wish I had gotten a burrito for $4.99 instead or a quesadilla for $6.99.
Aside from super yummy food! I think their prices are pretty decent. You can add a $1 and it becomes a combo. 2 tacos + a drink = $4.99, any burrito +drink = $5.99 etc.
I am definitely a fan! If I see this truck again, I wouldn't think twice of getting another taco or maybe trying a burrito or quesadilla.
Now I know what all the rage is about with the Korean/Mexican fusion food is all about. Yay!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - 189829298615Dec 2, 2010
I know I might be one of the few people that have tried this place out recently. But I didn't really notice it before. And one day while walking in J-Town it was right on a street. I wanted to try this place out because of all the hype from many friends and just different people.
I ordered a beef taco and thought that it was alright. The next time I came I ordered a beef burrito and thought maybe it would be different and many people seem to like the burrito a lot. Well I did enjoy the burrito for a few different reasons.
One: It has yummy egg in it!
Two: It is a pretty big meal !!
Three: You will like it more in a burrito than on a taco.
I gotta try this burrito out again but instead of beef I want to try shrimp. I saw a lady order 6 shrimp burritos so I think they must be good and it cost a little bit extra if you want it to be shrimp.
My First real food truck experience and I hope to have many more than this one!! :) Love how it is being taken onto the streets.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - 175112121872Dec 7, 2010
Food trucking has become a hobby now or a rite of passage for two young girls whose Mom is my partner in crime. We met up spontaneously for about an hour to check out the round up at Forest Lanes. Barcelona on the Go didn't have my Mac 'n' Cheese which is what I was really craving so hey, why not give Calbi a go?
Bleh. I wish I hadn't. Customer service is friendly here. I'll give them that. I was hungry so I got the 2 taco combo with a drink. It comes to about $5 and I picked the tofu and chicken. The tacos are stuffed with meat and tofu so you definitely will get your protein but the corn tortilla isn't heated up which can really make or break your taco and in this case the cardboard texture of the taco shell really gave my taste buds a shock followed up the veggie mixture and weird flavor of the meat. I'm still not sure what I ate it was that bad but I ate it anyway. I was that hungry. Isn't that sad? But it wasn't in that "this is so good I could inhale it." Nope. Lackluster. So sad too bad.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 157210695202Aug 22, 2010
I almost tripped over nothing when I walked by and saw the Calbi truck parked at 3rd St. in Santa Monica. I already had a Jamba Juice in my hand and was pretty set on not eating until dinner but this was something I couldn't pass up. Now I'm not one to chase after those cute mobile food trucks which seem to be all the craze these days but I also wont say no if I happen to stumble onto one.
I was so amped to see no line in sight not to mention a nonexistent crowd. We walked right up and the older man was totally nice and patient since it was our first time. I got the tofu taco just because it was my favorite taco from the Kogi truck. It definitely didn't taste the same and it wasn't as greasy as Kogi's. Although Kogi's tofu itself was mixed in some spicy sauce (reminded me of soondubu), Calbi's tofu was simply mixed with the vegetables and onions. I was kind of bummed to see the plain tofu but I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was. Not only was it piled high with all the fixins, it emitted all these different flavors which made the taco experience just amazing.
By the time I scarfed down the entire taco, there was a handful of people standing in line waiting to get their hands on Calbi's tasty tacos.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Apr 14, 2010
I'm really surprised at the horrible reviews cuz this truck is a lot better than some of the other ones I've tried lately! My friend and I were browsing around the cute little area of Larchmont Village when I spotted this truck across the street. I just knew I had to have some because that's what a true yelper does, right? (Please affirm me and tell me I'm normal when I go around hunting for food like a starving hound dog).
Anyway, it was 2pm in the afternoon so the lack of a line was not surprising. My friend and I were already stuffed from lunch, so we decided to get one taco to share - no harm in one bite each right? The beef taco is priced at $1.99. The nice korean man in the truck gave us an extra taco for free because he said we were cute. Thanks Mister truck man for the generosity!
I took a bite into the taco and thought it was good. The flavors were citrusy and refreshing with a good spicy kick. I really liked whatever special sauce was on the taco. The vegetables had a nice crunch, and there was a good amount of chopped beef in the tacos. I left wishing I had more room in my stomach for their kimchi cheese quesadilla. All in all a good experience and I have no complaints.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Kilroy Was Here C.Orange County, CA749162199Jun 24, 2016
I don't mind when food trucks rip each others ideas off, but give me food at least as good or at a better value, something. Mexi Calbi gave me nothing but overpriced mediocre food.
I had a beef and "spicy" pork taco, $8 for the two. They were a decent size..Sauce was good, had some lime tang. But the meats were chopped too fine and overcooked. Spicy pork was braised, but chopped so fine. Overcooked and mushy made me think canned dog food. Mind you, it was the odd texture not the taste. While it had flavor, it had no heat. I guess the extra cup of hot sauce is for that. They were also served warm, not hot, and tortillas were cold.
Service was friendly and fast due to lack of customers. But the food was a let down. I just expect better flavors at these prices.
I want my $8 back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 4, 2010
A good thing about Calbi's is that it's in the same location almost daily. It's been at Hope and Olympic every time I walk out to lunch. I ordered the two taco (beef and spicy pork) special with a drink for $5.99. The tacos were deeeelicious!
Both tacos had a lot of meat and were very flavorful. The beef was slightly sweet and tasted just like marinated galbi. Oh so good. The spicy pork wasn't too spicy (which is good) and wasn't oily like most fusion tacos. There was shredded lettuce in both, which was crispy and there was...cheese. The sprinkling of cheese added different dimension of flavor to the taco. It wasn't overwhelming but it gave it a heavier taste.
I liked the fact that there was absolutely no line at 1pm in the afternoon and the tacos are just really really good. I can't wait to go back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
