Giga Gift

Neighborhood: Downtown
I love this store. It has all kinds of cool junk! Yes cool junk. Stuff you don't need but it's cool to have. Funny stuff like various Japanese toys and gifts. The products range from cell phone covers to toys that shake their heads and that are operated by solar energy. Tons of different things.
This store is located in the Little Tokyo Shopping Mall. I am totally coming back here for some of my holiday shopping. There are very unique items in here and everything is reasonably priced.
See ya there!!!!
~Ambiance and Service
The ambiance is great. There is a fountain in the middle of the restaurant with three large vases. The restaurant is spacious. Staff is fairly nice. Decor is pretty cool.
~Food and Price
The food is ok. Not the best, but for 4.95 you can't go wrong. I, unfortunately, did not take the advice of my friends and opted for a marinated meat dish with asparagus. This dish was 9 bucks. Mostly asparagus stem. All the others in my party ordered the com tam with a side of fish (4.95 Special).
Bonus..BEER. Yes, this place serves beer. A bottle will run you about $2.50 regardless of the brand.
Bonus #2: No need to spend the extra 10 minutes going to your bank to get cash. They take credit cards here!
Parking is pretty easy, as the lot is large. Plenty of people and a very lively plaza. I wouldn't mind coming back for the special.

Ebisu Japanese Tavern

Neighborhood: Downtown
~Service and Ambiance ~4 stars
This place is actually kinda cool on the inside. It is nice and cozy. I felt very comfortable. The service is good. They also have various lunch specials which come in hand when you are trying to save a buck.
Japanese Fried Chicken- it was ok, but not the best I have had. 3 stars.
Tempura-I had way better, perhaps the best, at a soba place in Torrance. I have to give this one 2 stars.
Parking: Well it's down town. Sucks.
Bonus! Free Refills on yummy iced green tea!
Note.. I was giving this 3 stars..but you know what?? This place is pretty cool. Food is whatevers..but what a cool place to just chill with your good friends!
Overall, this place is ok. I will come back but not right away. There are way too many other places to try first. I did have a good time and experience..but mostly based on the company I had and the ambiance.
I had one of the best ramen experience here. I have been to two other locations including the one down the street at 2015. I had one special bowl here!
I came with two buddies. The girl behind the counter suggest that we all try a pork broth ramen without any extras. No miso. No nothing. We did and all of us agreed it was one of the best. I only wish I knew what exactly she had ordered us. She did say that it was extra good that day.
Bonus...go next door and get the fresh kiwi juice. It goes great with the ramen!! They will even give you a free sample if you are unsure.

Frying Fish Restaurant
Category: Sushi Bars
Neighborhood: Downtown
~Restaurant and Ambiance
I came here during the week with a group of coworkers. The restaurant is basically like sushi a float where the dishes go around in a circle on a belt. You pick what you like. You pay based on the color or pattern of the dish. This is a very casual place and the ambiance is relaxed.
~Sushi and Price
Overall the quality of the sushi was not anything I prefer. I am not picky about anything except sushi. However, it is pretty darn cheap. Also, if you are in a hurry, this place is quick. Super quick. I would not come here expecting good sushi, but just ok quality.
A Bonus to this place is that they will make you specialty items at your request
Staff is very friendly. Thanks to Maggie C for referring this place to me. I might be back if I am in the area.

Oceans Sushi and Oyster Lounge
Categories: Sushi Bars, Asian Fusion, Japanese
~Service and Ambiance-4 stars
This place is clean, warm, and cozy. They have a VIP room, a pool table, and even offer karaoke. Our service was great. They also have a happy hour from 5 to 7 daily. The prices are not bad. They have a decent booze line-up.
~Sushi-2 Stars
The sushi here is ok. Not the best. I think the best we had was the albacore. The sushi is also listed on the happy hour menu with actually makes it a decent choice.
~ Oysters-3 Stars
Pacific Oysters (half dozen) runs you about 11 bucks. They are small...but pretty darn tasty.
~ Ramen-2 stars
If you are a true Ramen fan, don't waste your time or money on it here. They make the ramen as it is ordered..individually.
I am not the perfect evaluator of ramen, but I know I have had some good ones in Downtown and in Gardena For HB, this might be average.
I have to remind myself that this place is in Huntington Beach...an area not known for good Japanese. For the area, this place is probably better than others. But, Oceans does not compare with other sushi places in OC or LA. Also, their ramen??? Doesn't compare to the great places in Gardena or Downtown. But, for HB..maybe this is average.

Los Angeles Public Library: Central Library

Great library. The architecture is amazing. Here's all the info you need to know.
The library opens at 10am on the weekdays. The parking is plentiful in a garage located on Flower Street. The first hour is $1.00 and each additional hour is $4.00. You must get the ticket validated inside the library.
The library has mutliple floors. Each is unique. Plenty of study cubicles. There is an outside park and an inside cafateria.
I have to say the drawback of the library is safety. Yes, I did see officers patroling the library. I did feel uncomfortable due to all the bums. Plenty of weirdos, too. Thus, minus a star for comfort.

Citadel Factory Stores
Category: Shopping
This outlet has 3 guess stores! Not only that, they have a CK outlet, Ann Klein, Converse, GHQ?? When was the last time I went into this store..So 90's! There is even a Rocky Mountain Chocolate store to get my addiction under control.
For women?? Men's clothing takes a back seat to all the stores for women. Just like every other outlet.
Kids? There is a Toys R Us Express store set up for holiday shopping.
So this outlet does have its downside. How do you get there? The 5 freeway. Nothing I hate more. I even prefer the 710 to this stretch of the 5.
Plenty of parking and a also some places to eat. I have say that I was surprised at how clean the bathrooms were. So this outlet takes a close second to my favorite...Carlsbad. I am a fan.
I have not been to this outlet for years. Kudos to Maggie C for refering this place. Nice.

One of the most romantic places in the city. The ideal place to take a loved one and have romantic talks and walks. A place to plan and dream. I don't know about any of the other things this place has...but it does have romance! If someone ever takes you here.. Appreciate it.

4) Both have friendly staff.
5) Both cost you an arm and a leg.
6) Both make you happy.
7) Both are hazardous to your waste line.
8) BOTH ARE IN THE OC!!!!!!!
For the longest time I was not a fan of this place. I kept reading the reviews from multiple yelp buddies and decided to go back. This time I bought several different items. I keep running into the same problem. The goods look so beautiful but then they are dry when I taste them..generally speaking. 3 Stars.
~Variety of Drinks-5 Star
I have to say I was impressed with the variety of the drinks. Several different types of coffee and green tea products. Espresso n Milk.. 5 stars! Love, love, love their espresso. I also tried their iced green tea with a tad milk. Delicious.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong with this place that the bakery items do not impress me. I think it must be because I keep comparing it to Cream Pan. Totally different bakeries. But... without a doubt, the Japanese French one (Cream Pan) wins hands down. I would rather spend my 30 bucks there.
In any case, both of these bakeries are in the OC!
85C and Cream Pan..two great reasons why the OC is the best place to live!
