The reason I'm giving two stars is due to the fact that the two movers did show up reasonably close to their time, but that's about the extent of it. The house manager Chandra was sweet; however, I don't know if she is aware of the work performance of her moving staff. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY IF YOU ARE A SINGLE FEMALE. The movers had their own way of packing (which meant they would pack the light boxes first. I didn't need help with those, I needed help with the couches and beds). When I asked if they could do the heavier items first, I was given a patronizing answer of, "this is how we pack things, we are professionals".
If it wasn't for a few friends (one male friend) coming, I think they would have continued to pack the light boxes. Because of how slowly it was going, I didn't even have them stay longer than 3 hours. We ended up having to finish the move ourselves because I didn't care to pay for additional hours with movers who move slower than a snail's pace.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Bill S.Reno, NV1218Jun 2, 2021
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! AVOID at ALL COST!! READ THE REVIEWS!!
Issues: BROKEN TV, PERSONAL INJURY (caused by their negligence), HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, MISLEADING BUSINESS NAME, NO RESPONSE or RESOLUTION from the owner, Greg Black!!
Below is a detailed list of our issues and experience.
1. Damaged TV - Dropped by the movers
2. Injured my lower back, buttocks, and leg. I have pictures and documentation.
- While helping Kevin wrap and move a huge cart, which I was not expecting to do, I tripped over your mover's dolly and injured myself. Kevin was there as a witness.
3. Move was extremely slow.
- We had to make two trips with a 26' foot truck to move because they didn't pack the truck right and they were slow. 7 hours!!
4. Unethical Business - NO Accountability or Resolution - READ ALL REVIEWS
THIS IS WHAT THEY DO!!! SCREW PEOPLE OVER!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kandis P.Reno, NV20184294Aug 22, 2020
We moved this summer within Reno. We had met the owner of this company, Greg, on a plane a few months earlier and he told us about his moving company. He was a very nice and genuine guy and we were happy to work with a local business! We booked Two College Guys about a month out and let them know our preferred dates. They let us know that we would need to rent the moving truck, even though they could pick it up and drop it off for us. They would have everything else we need, including pads for the furniture, plastic wrap, dolly, etc. I called to confirm we were still good to go the week of our move and they gave me two thumbs up.
Two guys showed up the day of the move on time and with the moving truck. We had all the boxes packed and a lot of large pieces of furniture, as we were moving from a 4-bedroom home. They worked HARD all day. We were paying an hourly rate and they informed us every time they took a short break. They were very respectful and had great personalities. We didn't have one scratch in our furniture, which has never happened before. They truly knew what they were doing!
It was very hot the day of our move, so we provided cold water and Gatorade (it was the least we could do!). We also bought chipotle for lunch and they were very appreciative. We think it is important to tip on a job well done and their commitment to getting us moved in a timely fashion was a perfect example of this.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Aiyona B.Reno, NV28115Oct 19, 2017
I used this company a year and a half ago to move and they were great. They moved and wrapped everything with 2 guys for a 4 bedroom house in 3 hours. Probably like most people, staying on time and on budget is very important to me and they were very respectful of my time and budget. I moved out of a 4 bedroom house with stairs to a single story house on budget and on time, and I felt like the cost was worth every penny.
Flash forward to my most recent move...
3 guys showed up. They were as slow as molasses in the winter time. They took twice as long and didn't even have to actually put my stuff in the new rooms, everything was going into the garage. They didn't pull into the driveway for easy loading at either location, and one of the workers was on the phone setting up what sounded like additional side jobs and texting throughout the duration of their stay. The guy that was older than my grandpa stayed inside and wrapped everything. One guy only came in to complain but I rarely saw the other two guys inside my house. The first thing he told me was that it took him TEN HOURS to do the last house. The kicker is we had no boxes to move because I had friends come over and move all that stuff the day before. It was only furniture and the contents of the shed.
It took twice as long, they moved less items and they only put them in the garage at the new home.
I would have highly recommended this company from the last move but I would say they are a rip off this time around. Not worth the bother, stress, and bill. My advice, stay off the phone, the items that you are moving are inside the house, make it easier on yourself and park in the driveway. Twice as much than quoted for a bill is just a bait and switch. Disappointed to say the least.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Emily J.Concord, NC1473Jul 3, 2021
DO NOT HIRE: MOVERS SHOW UP 2.5 HRS LATE, DRUNK/IMPAIRED & PHYSICALLY UNABLE TO DO JOB
I originally booked this company at the beginning of June, for a move out date of June 30th. Over that period of time, I called the company THREE times to ensure that everything was good, the movers would have all the supplies needed, I was still on the books for the 30th. The two movers were supposed to be here at 9am with a 16ft truck. I got a call from the lady in the office on the 30th at 9 stating they were having trouble getting the rental truck, but they'd be at my apartment by 9:30. 9:50 a mover slurring his words calls and says he's picking up the other worker and will be here within 30 minutes. 11:00 I call the office back, she's unable to get a hold of the movers, but when she does she says they "got lost" but are off the interstate and right by my apartment.
11:30 two old men, obviously not in the best of physical health to be lugging heavy stuff around, finally show up. They say they don't have GPS, or even working phones. One guy reeks of pot and the other guy is DRUNK. He can't stand up straight, slurring his words and the smell of URINE is all over him. I asked them if they realized they had to move me to the 3rd floor. They said no, they didn't think they could get all this stuff up to the 3rdfloor by themselves. They were also supposed to bring a 16 ft truck, it was a 10ft truck, meaning multiple trips. And they said they'd be unable to perform the task because the truck had no ramp. It was already arranged by this company that I had to drive the truck from point A to B, but they'd handle everything else....so I was supposed to drive with these two, smelling foul and dirty, beside me back and forth, and move my own things??
The lady in the office called me back to say that she was unable to get another crew to help me that day, and even worse could do nothing to get me moved the next day. Leaving me high and dry!!! I now have to pay an extras night rent at my apartment, scramble to find new movers, and have been unable to move this INCREDIBLE COMPLAINT up the chain to a manager or the owner. 72 hours have passed, giving Greg the owner ample time to call me back to discuss this matter...NOTHING. The people sent couldn't even do the job if the wanted to, much less being untrustworthy, unprofessional, and drunk!
Three weeks ago when I booked, the proper truck size with a ramp should've also been booked. Two College Guys sounds like you'd be getting 2 able-bodied, unimpaired workers. Being 2.5 hours late, and then admittedly being unable to perform the job hired to do (they were well aware of the specifics of the move when I booked) is outrageous. And then not being able to take this complaint up the chain takes the cake. PLEASE, do not make the same mistake, or go through the stress and anxiety as I did. Pay a little more to ensure the job can even be completed...by professionals...with customer service and accountability...
oh, the drunk guy drove the truck back to the rental companyHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 15, 2016
Kinda last minute choice.
I couldn't wait on the other person to hire movers any longer. My first two choices were booking out almost 6 weeks. This company was available when I needed them. They would pick up the truck, load it, unload it and return it. But they will not drive it loaded from your first site to the next. It was a little terrifying but I managed.
The stress of moving under bad circumstances was made worse by this entire ordeal. They showed up a half hour late. Seemed very slow to get started. I was moving- a couch , love-seat, chair, dinning room table with six chairs, a buffet, a king size four posted bed, an extra mattress, one night stand, and my large scrapbook armoire with side book cases, and one more small book case. I described this to the office as about 12 pieces of furniture. No boxes or other stuff to be moved. Half way thru the morning Albert seemed to cop an attitude- he said when did a few pieces of furniture turn into the entire house. This made myself and the friend helping me quite angry. This wasn't even close to the entire house. And they were the ones you picked up the lamps and messed around with taking out light bulbs to move. After about three hours, my girl friend and I started bringing down some of the furniture ourselves to get it loaded faster.
On top of all of this, Albert made at least three phone calls during my time. I shouldn't have had to pay for that extra 30 minutes. It took them 5 1/2 hours and charged me almost $700. He wrote no damages- yet one of the armoire book cases was broken. And the top piece of the armoire was left down stairs in the dinning room. They said it wouldn't fit upstairs. So now I am left to get this last piece upstairs on my own.
No I wouldn't use them again.Helpful 18Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Julie B.Sparks, NV2166Jul 20, 2016
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!
My parents are in their 60's and needed help moving their large furniture out of the house. They had EVERYTHING else packed up and already in storage units, all they needed was to get their large furniture from the second story to the moving truck. Their house is a 1,300 sq home and it took the two of them 7 HOURS just to move the furniture into the moving truck. They were so unprofessional, they bickered the entire time, they took breaks whenever they felt like it, they even asked my parents if they could have some of their stuff I.e. Televisions, books and stuffed animals. There were multiple items broken and damaged. This has cost my parents more than one could imagine. I cannot believe these people are still in business. They completely milked the clock and took advantage of my parents. I am warning everyone I know never to use this company.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Richard S.Reno, NV03712Jul 5, 2016
I selected and used Two College Guys based on a personal recommendation. They did the job they were hired to do; everything was delivered safely. They moved the pre-packed contents of a 5 bedroom house across town. I like to give high ratings, but in this case two concerns prevent me from providing a higher rating:
Arrived understaffed - the company sent two people to move a 5 bedroom house. When they called in to have a third person sent; that person never arrived. If I had not helped load and unload the truck, the move would have taken hours longer.
Temp worker - the team that moved me was a full-time Two College Guys employee and a Temp Worker. The full-time employee was hard working and motivated. The temp worker, however, refused to do the work assigned and started yelling at the employee in charge of the move. The situation was resolved within 5 minutes, but it left me disconcerted about the professionalism of this company.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Vivek S.Des Plaines, IL1246Nov 23, 2018
Probably the worst movers. Ever.
They did not arrive on time. Took forever to pack (I had already packed 90%) 3 came but only 2 actually did billable work. When they unpacked and started arranging, they created a lot of damages to my new house. The manager promised that they will come back and correct it but he never came back. The reviews I read about these guys turned about to be very true.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Darlene C.Sparks, NV607317Dec 24, 2015
I've used the college guys TWICE within 13 months. And I'm still happy with their service. The first time was a very tragic move since we had a flood in the condo. My fiancé said they were great for the price. The second time I had the pleasure of working with John and Albert. I LOVE YOU GUYS, YOU WERE GREAT! Albert was very nice and both were hard working and had fast! Will recommend the company.
