Competently executed Vietnamese food but a little pricey. Pho is... sufficient. Broth is not amazingly tasty, noodles are not perfectly cooked, meat is not perfectly presented but it's still a bowl of pho that tastes pretty good.

We'll probably be back to try their brunch but their dinner was slightly underwhelming.

It got off to an outstanding start. We got the lamb ribs and arancini. The arancini was good but the tomato sauce that came with it was a little salty and overwhelmed the more delicate taste of the arancini.
But whatever, the real hero here was the lamb ribs. I've never had lamb ribs before but from what I can tell it's basically crispy lamb flavored pork belly. It was crunchy, it was meaty and it was filled with a layer of amazingly near liquid fat. On it's own it would have been too much but it comes on a bed of yogurt sauce that really helps cut the fat and balance out the richness.

The rest of the meal was sadly forgettable. The gnocchi was very average, the scallops were good but not amazing. The worst part of the meal though was the onion rings. Now I love onion rings, even crappy ones but these rings were overly battered just... bland and slightly doughy. I'd honestly rather have that onion ring tower at Red Robin and that's a pretty low bar if you think about it.

Don't get the pizza. It's mind bogglingly mediocre. But the appetizers and beer selection are actually rather excellent.

If I had paid half as much for my meal it would have been fantastic, easily 4 stars.

Sadly, we paid a lot ($104 after tip) and we didn't feel like we ate $104 worth of food.

The good bits: The entrees we ordered were actually very good. I had skate and my Lady had the chicken. The skate was perfectly cooked, plated etc and was an almost textbook example of a well engineered meal. It had multiple textures, multiple flavors and everything was well balanced. We also had the chicken and risotto which I felt was excellent, price notwithstanding. The chicken was flavorful and cooked extremely well and it paired, unsurprisingly, well with the risotto.

So what was wrong? Nothing was wrong with the skate really, it was the best thing we ate there. But the chicken and the risotto were uninspired. The risotto was just, good risotto,

Everything else was subtly underwhelming. It was all good mind you but we would eat it and reflect, was that worth the money we spent to get it? The pig tostada was good but was it worth $9? As a minor quibble, they brought it out to us with a dry and sad looking lime. The fried pimiento cheese was tasty but for $7 I'd expect something a little more adventurous. As it it stands it's basically a bland fried cheese ball in a fairly tasty pimiento sauce. We also ordered the doughnut with chocolate and peanut butter ice cream. Again, it was good but there were a few details holding back. The "doughnut" was neither chewy, nor particularly flavorful. It was just there to soak up the other flavors and that's sad because a great doughnut is a wonderful thing. But this was like a piece of somewhat sweet bread with pretty good peanut butter ice cream in the center, smothered in chocolate sauce.

It was almost... clinically good. Like someone had sat down at a table and said, "Okay, let's engineer some food for a trendy restaurant in an affluent area. Farm-to-table? Check. Old classics with a twist? Check.

I admit it sounds like I'm being nitpicky but for this amount of money I expect flawless food. Especially since it's not exactly pushing the culinary envelope. I fully support good, simple food done well and I'm happy to pay for that (in fact most of my favorite restaurants fit that bill) but this, this is not that place. This is a good restaurant charging outstanding restaurant prices.

Bonchon does fantastic Korean-style fried chicken wings (and legs apparently). They're pretty much the perfect wing in my opinion. The skin is fried up to a candy-like chicharron consistency while the meat is still moist and tender. The wings themselves are enormous and filling. I really can't recommend these wings enough.

Now the rest of the menu... is kind of a waste. Nothing is bad but nothing is good. The buns are mediocre, the french fries and onion rings pedestrian. Do yourself a favor and take whatever money you'd spend on sides and spend that on more wings.

Soy wings and spicy hot wings.
