    • Sushi Bars

      Downtown, Las Vegas

      Mar 27, 2024
      1 check-in

      This is the ONE place for AYCE sushi in the Fremont area of Las Vegas!

      My visit to Sushi Ichiban was during my very first time going to Fremont and staying at the Golden Nugget Casino, which is the OG classic. If anyone decides to go off the beaten path of The Strip, then I recommend eating here as part of your trip.

      Ambience has quite a lively vibe! We made reservations earlier that day, which I highly recommend. While we did have to wait for 10 minutes or so for the staff to wipe down and set up our table, it wasn't too bad.

      You have a time limit of 90 minutes, but I'm sure this amount of time is more than enough. You're given a paper menu and then order whatever you want with the server. Some of the notable items were the following:
      - Pork belly
      - Sashimi poke
      - Uni (only 1 per person though)
      - Salmon Pinklady (salmon sashimi decorated like a rose)

      They have a bunch of rolls, too, but I don't recall the names. Service is quite prompt.

      All of this food is only $34.95 per person (before tax and tip) - such a steal!

      If you want to see a video version of my review, here's a short I made:

      This airline is PURE GARBAGE.

      When I was in Australia and New Zealand last year, they cancelled 4 out of my 5 flights. Absolutely shitty. And they wouldn't even give me enough notice - it was literally the night before (when I was sleeping).

      Of course they weren't apologetic. At the airport, there was this long ass queue of victims (including myself) who were trying to get flights rebooked. Need I say more.

      Taking Jetstar would only be OK if you had all the time in the world and could afford a cancellation (or 4 in my case), but if you have a short trip, meeting, school, work, funeral, wedding, etc. to get to, don't take them. Just don't. Complete twats. I hope they go bankrupt.

      If you haven't tried Baron's yet in Bellevue, WA, then pay a visit asap. This place has the authentic Peking duck dish that comes with the thinly sliced duck skin, basket of steamed pancakes/crepes, and all the fixings to make that perfect, juicy wrap. Also, they have plenty of other delicious dishes, such as stir fried beef, honey walnut shrimp, string green beans, and buns (steamed & fried) with the condensed milk dipping.

      I came here for a holiday work lunch so am unsure how much it was total, but I suspect it's not cheap. But, apparently they have a decent HH, so will need to come back for that soon!

      I have been wanting to try Nine Way in Redmond, WA for the LONGESTTTTT time, and now I finally got the chance. The space of this place is not that large, but it's cozy. The hype here, though, was REAL: legit and authentic Sichuanese cuisine. We got both dry noodles and wet ones (with broth) - both dishes were packed of flavor. Spiciness level not too bad. The cucumber salad was refreshing and crunchy, though I wish the amount of garlic and vinegar flavor were much higher (you can never have too much garlic!). The dumplings in ma la soup was a nice mix of 2 Chinese staple items, with a decent spicy kick. They have other dishes as well, especially the side ones, that I will try next time I'm there.

      The server was really friendly, and seems that she recognized my friend from last time (since he's a regular (ish)).

      Price wise, it was not bad! $48 for two.

      This is a solid 3.5-4.0 for me!

      Let's start with the awesome parts about Qiao Lin:
      - Interior decor is on ANOTHER level - feels like you are taken back to China
      - Option for not 2 or 4 broths, but 3;
      - Sauce bar that is $2.99 per person has decent apps - think of popcorn chicken and pig ear;
      - Meats are decent quality;
      - They also got a soft serve machine;
      - Option for all-you-can-drink beer;
      - Some snacks to munch on while you are waiting (or after your meal)

      You are probably looking at the above and wondering, "Sho! If there are so many good things about this place, why only a 3.5-4.0 rating?"

      Here's the not-so-good:
      - The soft serve tastes FAKE;
      - For the beer options, there's not that many and actually no Asian beers if I remember correctly;
      - The snacks suck;
      - On the pricier side;
      - Some other hot pot restaurants have better sauce bars - e.g. case in point: Happy Lamb's has tasty pickled vegetables and that one soupy dessert with the baby taro and sago

      The problem with Qiao Lin's debut is that it's a little late to the hot pot game, given that there are already so many comparable options. But, aside from the pros above, the quality is good and service was very attentive. Just a tad on the pricier side.
