CLOSED PERMANENTLY as of last Friday according to sign on door.
Had yesterday off so did the wife I decided we should drive up to Story Chitty and check this place out for lunch. 1215 pull up front sign on door states closed. I just looked at their website at the menu & hours would have been awesome of the owner to put something on the site about NOT BEING OPEN ANYMORE...
We have been back 3 times now for lunch by far the best option when on the Northside of town IMO. Excellent menu choices. Really good burger & killer tenderloin. Lunch prices are on par with most other places around. Staff is friendly. We will keep coming back for sure.
The in-laws were with us one day and they both liked their sandwiches which is kinda a rare thing.
Stopped in Saturday morning with the wife for breakfast. I had the biscuits and chorizo gravy and a OJ. Wife had the sausage breakfast burrito with hash browns and coffee. We both had a hard time deciding on what to get as they had a good amount of choices on the menu. Biscuits themselves were awesome best I've had in a long while gravy was good chorizo wasn't spicy at all not a bad thing just unexpected. I'd seriously go here just to buy biscuits if they sold them. OJ & coffee were ok OJ could have been bigger. Wife said she liked the burrito and we both liked the hash browns which were crispy. Her burrito and the hash browns were good size the biscuits and gravy was on the small size IMO.
Our server was very pleasant, helpful, and checked on us often but not often enough to be annoying. Price was a little higher than I would have liked to pay for breakfast but definitely didn't break the bank and won't detour us from coming back again and trying lunch sometime also!
Interior of the building looks basically the same as Battle Cry did with a few noticeable changes and different art on the wall. Very clean, not crowded/clustered, well kept and one of the nicest looking bars around.
Best of luck to this new business hope it's around for a long while as it's seems like a keeper to me.
Just a FYI Oddfellows is now CLOSED FOR BUSINESS.
Saturday March 29th 2016 was their last day open.
I'm from Ames and this place is an absolute insult to BBQ, Ames and the state of Iowa! Been here once and will NEVER make that mistake again. I've ate BBQ all over the Mid-West and Eastern U.S. and this is truly the worst I have ever had unfortunately in my own hometown. Was a Friday high noon and I was the only one there this should have been my first clue. Ordered a brisket sandwich was served some kind of grey (YES I said grey) meat on a semi stale store brand bun. It looked so bad I thought about throwing it in the trash and walking out wish I would have. My best guess as to what I ate is it was some kind of prepackaged frozen beef product that was cooked in a crock pot several days prior to me ordering it and heated up in a microwave. Even the lady who handed it to me from behind the counter had a look on her face that she knew she was doing something wrong. I even caught her eyeballing me choking it down from around the corner several times. I will say I didn't end up sick from this mystery meat(surprisingly), the sauce in the bottle on the table was ok tasting, and the place was pretty dang clean.
I would like to personally apologize to anyone from out of state that ate here and thinks this is what Iowa has to offer for BBQ because it is NOT and please give us another chance just NOT at this establishment. Thank you.
What a joke this place is... First off cars listed are NOT on the lot in other words this place is NOT a car lot. Won an auction on Ebay 12pm on a Saturday called before 1pm said will be there 4pm leaving right now 3 hour drive told we will get a hold of the owner(of the car) as the car is NOT on site. Call back 1/2 hour later can't reach the owner "we know he's a HUGE Husker fan and has season tix". OK why would you "knowing this" would you end an auction on a home game weekend??? Told we will let you know when the car is here(on the lot) and you can come get it. Sunday nothing ok it's Sunday expect that, Monday nothing ok(not really), Tuesday nothing, Wednesday nothing, Thursday 4:30pm phone call your car is here WHEN are you coming to get it? Yeah right get real 5 days later...
As far as Josh E.s comment maybe he should do some more research since he doesn't recall this incident happening cause I do and I don't have the time or patience to waste to call him with more details to discuss. SOMEBODY there had the gall to leave me negative feedback on eBay because of their piss poor business ethics... eBay auction #150160934089

Thank you for your feedback of The Internet Car Lot. We've done some research and we don't recall this incident happening. Please call us with more details to discuss. Please understand we are the Nation's leader in online vehicle consignment sales and that requires us to coordinate our consignment sales with both our buyers and sellers. All of our online consignment ads state if the vehicle is being sold via our consignment program and we do not store all of the consignment cars at our dealership. We do need notice prior to coming to buy a vehicle to arrange the seller to bring it to our dealership. Typically this notice is just 24 hours. We typically don't run into situations where are sellers aren't available but there can be isolated incidents where our sellers are out of town or have a family or work function that can prolong that time frame some but we always do our best to communicate and coordinate sales with the best interests for our buyers and sellers. Please note that a large part of our inventory is owned by us and is not consignment and is physically located at our dealership.
