I have a hard time leaving so-so reviews because my preferences can be completely opposite of someone else, but for my experience, i can't say i'd be back.

Meal: California Burger and Sweet Potato Tots & Local Draft Beer

Positives: The burger was a very generous size. Great tasting Bun. Fresh toppings. Tots tasted baked vs fried with a sprinkle of Old Bay (i believe) giving them a unique delicious flavor! Lots of options, including GF. Unique burger selection.

Negatives: The burger didn't really stand out from your average chain restaurant burger. The burger was rather thick and wasn't particular seasoned (My personal preference is a larger thinner patty so each bite isn't dominated by a mouthful of ground beef). Didn't feel overly welcome; bartender wasn't very friendly when i ordered. Burger was on the medium-well to well-done.

Overall, if i was in the mood for another burger i'd look at other options before visiting again.

Four years ago, this place turned me into a sushi lover and I've been back about once a month since! The fish is always fresh, the service is always quick, the rolls are larger then most places with extremely reasonable lunch specials (2 rolls for $9.50 or 3 for $11.50) that include both soup and salad. Perfect lunch place!

I typically keep it simple for lunch with either a Spicy Tuna roll or Eel Avocado rolls. The Spicy Tuna rolls are a great size with a great balance of fish, spice and crunch (although i ask for "extra" spicy, cause i love the heat!) without the excess panko filler that a lot of place overdo.
The salad is always cold, fresh and crisp with a very delicious ginger dressing which compliments the sushi perfectly!

Quite a few people complained about the speed of service, which i have to agree, is very quick. However, this always works in our favor as typically it's a rush against the clock to get back to the grind in time!

I would highly recommend this place for any sushi lover out looking for the perfect lunch spot!

As a seasoned business traveler, tired of the cookie cutter hotel offerings of comfort but very little character, this hotel attracted me like a moth to a flame and it did NOT disappoint. This gorgeous immaculately kept property embodies a rich historical class with graceful age in a structure over 100 years which gives you all the comforts of today with the elegance you'd expect from any historical five star hotel.

Check in was a breeze with a warm smile and friendly staff. I opted to pay the extra ~$30 to stay on the executive level which i would absolutely recommend! The executive lounge came with free breakfast, evening hors d'oeuvres, drinks and snacks as well as a quiet place to sit a relax after a long day.

My room was very spacious and very clean. It's the small details such as the "HR" molded into the headboard, monogrammed pills and the historical maps and items hung on the walls that tell the history of the hotel that make this room stand out.

Only complaint was that parking is a decent jog from the hotel entrance, however, there is a very convenient courtesy shuttle, just keep your eyes open as he's constantly bringing people back and forth. If you'd rather skip this all together, the valets at the hotel entrance is an option.

I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for more then your average hotel and who appreciates historical class and character. I will, without doubt, stay here again next time i'm in Roanoke.

It was a cool dark rainy evening, the type you imagine when you think of a classic nior film. Dim lights and soft jazz music playing above the quiet exchanging of laughs and whispers between hotel guests....

A great classy hotel pub to match an amazing historical and classy hotel. A perfect balance of lively yet relaxing, the perfect place to kick back after being on my feet all day. They have multiple TVs on closed caption and a couple couches if you really want to it back and soak it in. The menu is bit on the small side but the variety is on point.

The Meal: Chicken Quesadilla with a crisp Hendricks & tonic

Pleasantly surprised! Typically a small dish quesadilla will leave me wanting more but I'm actually full! Great flavor and and came out hot. The drink was perfectly strong and meal even came with a bonus side of house cooked seasoned chips which added a great touch of something salty with my drink after I finished!

I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a classy relaxing atmosphere with some good small dishes and about any liquor you could ask for.

The Terrace has the view, the atmosphere, the drinks and the appetizers selection nailed down but if you're looking for dinner just realize this is set up much more like tapas. There were only 2 entrées on the entire menu.

      My order:

Fried Pimento Cheese - This may be a little biased as a cheese lover but these were amazing. The hot sauce served with them was a perfect compliment. My only complaint was I wish there were more then 4!

Chicken Satay - these were basically 4 very small pieces of chicken grilled on skewers. Grilled to the point of dry actually and I could barely get them off the skewer! I read another reviewer mention the same and now I know why. This felt like an afterthought addition to the small plate menu. Wouldn't recommend.

Bottom line...if you're looking for somewhere to sit and have drinks over a few small eats and a great view this place is for you. If you want dinner, this probably isn't for you.
