Tony’s 1-star review:
If you go to the casino, be prepared for smoking, busy busy rushing people, and lousy buffet food items. Invited by a friend to go for a drive, I went along ... I've never been inside a casino for the sole purpose of working the one-armed slots, so this was a big shock to my system. Getting a Thunder Valley Casino card was no problem ~ without one, you cannot gamble!! Gone are the days of feeding coins into the machines... you can still use dollar (and higher) bills but no more change fed or returned. It's all virtual now, and a display on a screen displays how much you won (or LOST), how many credits you have, etc. When you want to move on, you press "CASH OUT" and a ticket prints out, with your balance or winnings. This ticket can be used on other machines just by feeding it into a ticket reader located on each and every machine! If you want to leave, you can cash this ticket for money, or still reuse it at another machine to continue gambling. wow~!!~ I enjoyed the sound from the machine of coins dropping noisily into a metal catcher as in olden days! Later moved on to food and considering the cost per person, I was surprised at the POOR quality of the buffet food!! Sure, there was a GREAT variety in chinese, italian and americana, but most of it was cold, tasted like it was day-old and hard, and just plain yuck. I tasted a bit of chinese, and americana - the pasta items just looked too DRY and cold - and the best items I had was a piece of cut beef that looked broiled. I picked up two types of chicken: fried and what looked like slightly baked, and both were cold, tough and NOT FRESH, and even the vast dessert selection was yuck; the carrot cake I tasted was hard and wasn't fresh at all. My experience there was very disappointing as far as the buffet was concerned. My advice: WAIT till you see a LOT of people eating, then eat after the main food trays have been changed out, thus ensuring you get the hottest and freshest food possible. In regards to the gaming I was out only $35 but my friend was out over $70 when it comes to the gaming section... being both non-smokers and allergic - yea, WHY did we go? we even tried out the non-smoking area machines and in there, the smell of smoke was more apparent for some reason... we didn't stay in the non-smoking section too long. Overall, for me it was a waste of a day but enjoyed the company of my friend!! I wouldn't return for the gaming NOR the eating experience(s). By chance, I had eaten at the Koi Palace some months ago and didn't think too highly of that area too. Overpriced and too little portions. I'll stick to Chinatown!!!
