Please don't get me wrong. I am a big fan of jazz, not a fan of clear channel, but LOVE classic rock. I listen mostly late at night and since I am in my car most of the day, this is one of many I listen too.
The Bay Area has needed a station like this for a long time
Have to admit Im sick of Lamont and Tonelli and their childish act, isn't it time for you guys to move to Modesto? Im so sick of Led Zepplin I'd rather listed to Barak Obama!
Sorry Greg Kihn..go back to playing music..even if you have to fake it.
Dear Whichever "Asshole with an iPod" runs the playlist for this station,
Classic Rock encapsulates some of the best musicians and song writers of all time. Clapton. Dylan. Hendrix. Joplin. Jefferson Airplane. Led Zepplin. The Doors. Etc. All you ever seem to play is the %$#@ing Steve Miller Band. Really? Enough is enough. If I hear "Already Gone" or "Keep on Rocking Me, Baby" one more time, bad things will happen.
With Bleeding Ears,

Last May 18, 2009 at 3PM, it marked the end of an era. KKSF 103.7FM is no longer the Bay Area's home for Smooth Jazz. They're now called 103.7 The Band.
Well, I am very sad & disappointed of the change... I've been a loyal listener & fan of the Smooth Jazz station for many years. Where did they want me to listen now on my car radio? On my iPhone? On my PC? You've betrayed me KKSF... I'm so SAD, SAD, SAD :(

Smooth JAZZ.... my kind of music... my sleeping music.... my car music.... my work music.... my PC… Read more »
Nobody has screwed radio more than Clearchannel! Call me jaded (okay, you're jaded) but this decision to switch formats reeks of some consultant 2,000 miles away who only looks at charts and graphs. 70s Rock? I'm a fan of that era but this "what's-old-is-now-new-again" format is so trite. Spare me! I'll miss the Dave Koz afternoon show.
Definition of a Consultant: guy who knows 200 ways to make love but doesn't know any women.
Not sure how to rate this... I loved the smooth jazz of KKSF (4 stars), but I found out that it is now "obsolete" and has been replaced by classic rock (1 star).
I've been listening to KKSF for at least 15 years. Smooth Jazz was one form of music therapy for me. ;) The station was not only about the music they played, but they were also about getting out into the community and getting the listeners in touch with their favorite artists. At least I can still listen online... but I wonder how long that will last. RIP KKSF!
(Although I am a fan of classic rock -- depending on my mood du jour -- isn't there already several stations with that format???)
Like many of you are probably thinking, what happened to KKSF 103.7? Well, it turns out that they have moved their programming to a "purely digital format," which means that you'll need a HD radio/HD tuner in order to listen to all of their songs. But fortunately, there's another alternative for those who do not want to go out and buy something extra in order to listen to your favorite jazz station--you can listen on the Internet. If you go to the KKSF .com homepage and click the yellow "Listen Live" button, it will load the "KKSF On Demand" player. Or you can click the following URL for the sake of simplicity: http://www.kksf.com/cc... Unfortunately. this player is only fully-functional in Internet Explorer--so for you Firefox/Safari fans out there, you're sadly out of luck.
KKSF does not even deserve any star, their new changes does not even compare to other radio station. BAD decision from theri top idiot people!!!
I listen to JAZZ, when I have enough of the dance music. They need to bring JAZZ back, fire the excutives and get fresh people to run the JAZZ station again!!
This station sucks. I have been listening to 45 minutes of commercials straight. When they do play music it is the same song every day. Bring back Smooth Jazz.
I'm a fan of jazz and soft music as I like to play it throughout the house during the day.
Though I do like this station, their play list is the same. Every day I have to hear "Forget Me Nots" at least once, "The Way You Move" instrumental by Kenny G at least once, among others. They probably only play these songs once a day, but it seems like more prolly because they play them in the late afternoon and I'm so used to them it feels like more than once a day.
And I think SF radio stations' commercials are longer. I've been wondering if it's because they need more advertising dollars here. And some sound like it's the DJ talking, but then at the end I find out it's a commercial.
I like the music on this station, but I wish they could be daring and switch it up a little.
BOO, KKSF. Everything is about $$ these days, trying to survive and somehow by dumping smooth jazz and switching to a new format will save you. We'll see, betcha didn't think all those smooth jazz listeners have started to desert you and move over to other stations. I've moved on. When you come to your senses and reinstate jazz, I'll think about coming back.
Last night, my husband and I were watching a DVD. He goes to work at night, and wakes up at 8:45PM. Last night, he didn't go to work, so we were just watching along when the clock alarm went off.
(Our clock alarm has programming for six radio stations, and you know where we had Alarm One-Station One
set on. : )
He was wondering why the clock was playing rock. He thought that I had reprogrammed the alarm. I went to go turn the clock off myself, and thought,"Ok...that's weird....". Then I found out the bad news! : (
This is terrible!!!! Don't tell me that I'm going to have to go back to KBLX now! But, honestly, there is nothing bad about KBLX. It's just that I'd like to think that I had graduated from KBLX onto more eclectic tunes that really does wonders for your spirit! And, I've listened to KKSF for so long!
What do we all tune to now out here on the radio for our Smooth Jazz? It would be great if KCSM had this type of format. But, KCSM is in it's own beautiful realm, which I hope no one touches.

Crappy wavform "make the music so unobjectionable you can barely hear it" end of time, an example of armageddon, my parents don't even listen to this bullshit anymore AWFUL dentist's office ridiculously bad zero talent worthless not-really-music music.
Simple:
Old KKSF Smooth Jazz: 5 stars, one of my favorite stations
New KKSF The Band: 1 star, one of my least favorite oldies/rock stations
Yep, that says it all. I'm not really mad at the format change, it's just that 103.7 was THE station for modern jazz, introduced me and my family to it about eight years ago and actually got me to buy the music. I mean, imagine 8 and 10 year olds liking a jazz radio station like my sons do! That's what the old KKSF did for jazz in my family. Even my vietnamese wife who absolutely always listens to AM vietnamese stations was listening to 103.7 KKSF smooth jazz! That was a first in the 16 years we've been together.
OK, now the new format. First, the programming is so random with cliche'd selections. I mean, Hall and Oates Private Eyes, then Jimi Hendrix Purple Haze???? WTF? Half the time when I tune into 103.7, I just say OMG and switch to a real 80's/70's or classic rock station, and there are plenty of them. I think they don't really know what their new format is, and whoever is doing their programming is either an intern or a computer (and even iTunes is better than this idiot).
Basically, they changed formats away from an obscure low-ratings format for business reasons, and they changed it to a completely unknown format that I can't imagine people listening to because it's so random. Seems like they are trying to kill the station. Look around, there are several FM stations in the SF Bay Area alone doing Smooth Jazz, not to mention Internet-only:

I am so upset!! KKSF a new format! I am a LONG time listener. Now I hear this trendy mainstream garbage! I would always ask my 8 yr old daughter whats dads station? she would answer KKSF 103.7 it was our thing. Now its gone. You had something that worked, why change? I am not alone. Alot of my co workers would have KKSF on thier radios. We all agree, you have lost a big listining base for what? Koz, Rick Kenny KK not to fear, we will find another station tht knows the value of qulity smooth jazz.
Steve
They say they play smooth jazz, but I've heard everything from hip-hop to folk, and everything else in-between. If you call them - if you TRY to call them - they simply don't answer the phones as they obviously are pulling music for their radio shows. I can't understand how they can be when they play the same songs over and over again - in fact, you can sometimes even hear the same songs at the same hour/times in a day - sometimes there'll be a gap of two days but that song will air at the same time you heard it yesterday, or a few days ago... you get the idea. The station manager called me to explain they tailor their music playlists to those who might listen to KKSF just for a few hours, thence if you listen all day as I do, then you'll hear the same song played.... once, twice, three and more times a DAY!!!! grrrrr Weekeneds late at night they get some airing of really cool music but sometimes it changes to really NON-smooth "jazz". As I stated before: they say they play smooth jazz but they actually air a LOT of different songs.... I've even heard rap a few times!!! When they get off their "other than smoothies" playlist, I switch to Pandora online and listen to what I want.
I can't really blast them too hard; after all if it weren't for KKSF I wouldn't have ever heard of Jesse Cook!!! Yes, they play his stuff (thank goodness!!!!) at least 4 times an hour and the same darn music pieces... JC has more stuff out, why can't they update their playlists or will they play the same music for decades to come? grrrrrr
I liked KKSF and I like the new station, The Band, as well. If I want smooth jazz on the radio, there's still KBLX, which I listen to often. Long live radio!
KKSF used to be a great smooth jazz radio station, but now they have changed their format to old rock and roll music. This was such a bad decision of Clear Channel, and it should be no surprise why terrestrial radio's ratings are way down. Luckily, I am a Sirius satellite subscriber, and I can listen to Smooth Jazz on Channel 71 without commercial interruptions. When the Sirius/XM iphone app comes out , I am sure they will have many new subscribers to try out all the great music and talk on satellite radio.
this is my jazz station. I like the smooth modern jazz sometimes and not the old school way out there jazz that everyone pretends to understand from the old guys like coltrane et al.But then Im an R and B baby! sing!
I love kksf. I love Sade and the hot smooth jazz they play on this station. Perfect for reminiscing and knockin' boots.
They've had the same damn play list since 1992! Some of it is OK, some of it sounds dated. Hmm..I can't really tell the difference between them and KBLX now. Oh well, does it matter? I only listen to this station because I'm forced to at work. Blows the fuck outta KOIT!
I used to love this station, but then stopped listening when I realized that they keep playing the same stuff over and over and over and over again. Once in a while I'll go back when the other stations don't have much playing, but if you're a jazz lover (and I don't mean hardcore jazz, but the trendy kind) then this station is for you. They love playing Chris Botti, Marc Antoine, Dave Koz and the like. On Sundays, they broadcast from the Nikko Hotel's Anzu restaurant.
KKSF is my favorite station, with cool DJ's.Great relaxing station. Every now-then, they might play some cool jams, that I haven't heard in years.I like the JAZZ Cafe music hour on Sunday nights. I wish they have Jazz Cafe hour in the morning when I have a cup of joe.
Yeah I agree, they do play some of the songs over and over a bit. However, I do love smooth jazz and I am a big fan of this station. Not only do they play some pretty nifty beats, but they also play some cool mainstream songs such as Michael Buble's "Home" and some throwbacks from the 80's. This station also throws some of the fattest concerts, with their best being the annual Dave Koz and Friends Christmas concerts. Also, their Sunday Morning Oasis is pretty kick ass (I have a thing for lounge type music). This station is one of my cherished radio stations and hence is how I got the headline to my profile...
I love listening to this station in the evening or when I need to unwind. The mellow jazz helps me relax. Depending on the DJ on air at the moment, I could groove to hit songs or sing along with the vocalist.
Pretty nice and relaxing music, Jazzy featuring Dave Koz, Kenny G and the likes of it....an alternative to NRG92.7 or 96.5 for my 45 minute commute to work.
I used to like KKSF until at one point, realized they'd morphed into the Anita Baker/Michael Mcdonald station.
