For whatever reason, when I come here this place is always empty. It's a huge pool hall with $5 drink specials. How is this not more popular? Oh well, more pool playing left for me.
This is a HUGE pool hall, excellent for big groups. Seriously, you can bring a lot of people with you. The servers are very friendly and it's easy to have a good time here! Try it!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Koso I.Queens, NY230105361Sep 13, 2019Updated review
I would say that this spot is alright, nothing special but it does meet the basic 'pool house' feel. What got on my nerves was the attitude from the cashier checking out tables - he was rude and did not seem to know what simple courtesies are (E.g. Looking at customers in the eye, smiling, greeting customers).
I do have to say the bartenders were very friendly! It's just the cashier who ruined the experience for me.
Maybe I'll check it out again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 22, 2014Previous reviewI would say that this spot is alright, nothing special but it does meet the basic 'pool house' feel. It's been about 3 years since my last visit here. The place remains a biz I intent to visit again. The $10/hr/ table is a steal IMHO.
We had a few munchies while playing. The chicken burger was yummy and the side of garlic fries was garlicky fine!
But it was déjà vu time when we were ready to pay. They switched our tab again. This happened three years ago too! Lol! What are the chances?
Kudos to our server Britney. She was friendly and sported some killer tats!
Tip: Inform the staff that you're using your 10% yelp check in bonanza in advance. Read your bill.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Oct 27, 2007
Our work team came here after our team dinner to play some pool and have some drinks. There was a guy at the front door checking IDs - he even ID'd some folks who were VERY clearly in their 50s. Oh well - no biggie - at least they are consistent!
The place is pretty large - lots of pool tables. On a Tuesday evening - the place was understandably empty - until we got there. There was about 30 folks in our party - so we took over about 3 pool tables and the rest of the group wandered around the joint with drinks in hand.
There was also air hockey tables, pinball machines, and the like. Fun place!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 13, 2009
When I came in, it was hella dark and suddenly, this guy appeared out of nowhere to check my ID.... Okay I was exaggerating about the guy appearing suddenly. You will get carded upon your entry so anybody under 21 can't come in!
They had a lot of pool tables though they felt old and worn down. Compared to Santa Clara Billiards, these pool tables weren't maintained frequently but that's okay. The cue sticks felt a little different from other cue sticks I've used in the past but that's also okay. They had a jukebox too and a stage where bands come to play (apparently?). There's a full bar here which explains the guy checking ID for everybody coming in.
The lighting made it feel super chill even though it was a bit darker than I would have liked. There's different rates depending on which days you come to play.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jodi C.Pensacola, FL212355646Jun 23, 2015
I'm a little bummed they took their yummy marguerite pizza off the menu (now, they just serve basic fried bar food). But this place is still pretty jammin'.
Ping pong tables. Larger-than-life wall art. Endless pool tables.
For some reason, I have a hard time playing pool on red felt, so when I requested a different felt table, the guy didn't blink an eye and happily gave us blue felt.
They've got standard billiard tables (not the wimpy bar boxes), hand chalk, and oodles of queues without a broken tip in site.
Friendly wait staff, though a bit on the slow side. Good music, though it was hotter than hades while playing - I was dripping sweat.
Lots of people, but not a pretentious group.
Over all, a chill place to whack some balls around.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Kevyne N.Palo Alto, CA5244343722Apr 1, 2013
It was my first time...
and definitely aint going to be the last
When my fave Yelp couple texted me that we will be kicking it at this place. I was totally OK with it since I like playing with balls........ with a cue stick. Get your mind off the gutter will yah? I used to play a lot back in College thus the obvious love for this sport. Wait is this considered as sport? Anyhoo, No sire, I'm not good but I can prolly win a game or two against whoever I'm playing with.
This place is huge and was still pretty empty when we got here before 8PM on a Monday http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=ra9lBcONPfoboeudl7-eTQ&userid=BDHDu2gEcRS6d4qz8yf7zg, http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Da9Kp3gTEKdSwQ-ugPaSKw&userid=BDHDu2gEcRS6d4qz8yf7zg but it gets busy past that hour.
We ordered some food and drinks first before hitting demballs. I love me some buffalo wings so we tried getting that but the server told us that they run out of wings. They do have Chicken Thumbs aka Chicken fingers though so we had it instead. It was not heavily breaded nor hard like the usual fingers. Their thumbs are surprisingly good! It came with heaps of fries. Their garlic Fries is worth mentioning as well.
They charge $10 per hour for a table on Mondays. That's cheap!!! Plus they have the Martinis two for the price of 1. The Peach and Mango Martinis are the bombdigitty! Mind you, drinks here are hella good and strong! We had sooooo much fun here and left the place all happy drunks!
Definitely a good place to hang out with friends!

Not sure how the bf and I ended up here while we cruising by the other night but I think it had something to do with a sign he saw that said "buffalo wings"......Mmmm, wings :)
We got in right before the kitchen closed and ordered the wings and nacho fries. Heart attack, right?
Since the place was fairly empty I felt gutsy enough to play some pool. They have a TON of tables that are in great shape. For an hour playtime, we shelled out $8.75. On the walls, they've got fun art hanging all over the place. The music was an awesome mix of 90s RandB and Pop with old shool punk. Did they steal my iPod?!

As for the food, the wings were ok--needed TONS of more seasoning. However, the nacho fries were on point. And really, how can you go wrong with fresh fried french fries with nacho condiments...YUM.
Overall, the food came out to be a bit pricey for two appetizers and a pitcher of Newcastle for $38. Yikes! Don't think we'll be back just for the food but shooting pool was super fun!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Sep 3, 2009
It's places like this that make a town fun to visit. Good beer selection. Tons of open pool tables and cues in great shape. Student art all over the walls, nice sound system with alt rock selection playing.
In my hometown the pool halls are all biker joints and are pretty scary at night - South First was totally mellow and fun. I'll come here next time I'm in SJ.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Nov 30, 2010
