Select Build

I had a good experience with Shawn and Shannon for at bathroom remodel that included moving walls, an unexpected repipe, and the usual project creep (some my fault). They were flexible with me ordering most materials myself but also offered suggestions on items I wanted but wasn't particularly picky on. The project came out really good which is what I needed in my 1950s build. Their electrician was my favorite sub.

We were over budget and slightly delayed but everything was clearly communicated and Shawn did his best which I really appreciate. Also appreciated how they took direction and communication style - worked for me. I originally bid this job to 3 folks in the area and Shawn was in the middle. Even after everything I feel like costs were fair and honestly look at the before photo.

4.5 stars but rounded up (I have some nitpicks but I didn't pay for perfection ). Would be happy to work with them again.

Shawn and Shannon are amazing. After several bad experiences with other contractors, it was such a relief to work with them. They are prompt, communicative, and genuinely care about the quality of the work. Shawn seriously spent like 4 months helping us track down the cause of an issue in our house. He incrementally tweaked stuff until he finally figured out what had eluded two previous contractors. Thank you so much, Select Build!

Shawn and the Select Build crew have completed multiple projects for us over the years: rebuilding one room and adding a new one, a bathroom remodel, a roof rebuild over our porch, and most recently a deck repair. He even went above and beyond to squeeze us into his schedule when we were selling our house and needed some work done at the last minute. Whenever someone asks for builder recommendations in the Seattle area, I always give them Shawn's name.

About a year ago we started getting quotes from various contractors for a deck remodel. That's when I contacted Shawn and he seemed pretty responsive and willing to work with us. We chatted for over a month and he never came on-site for measurements and to discuss the project. Then life happened and decided to postpone this project until later this year. Although we never got a quote from Shawn, I thought we should consider him too when we re-started the project, only that this time he's requested more prints of the plans that I had to prepare, and stated that they're "on the more expensive end of things". I said that yes, we'd still be interested, since this is a big project and quality is more important. And that's when he just dropped the ball on us. I guess a deck remodel is a too small of a project to get him engaged. So, unless you're into a $100K+ project, look elsewhere.

We have an occasional leak in our townhome that's been tricky to diagnose. Unfortunately, we were unable to start a home repair job with Select Build, because Shawn decided to "pass" on the job when I requested a bid / estimate. Parts of the job were knowable and parts were exploratory and I wanted to understand that better. He wanted a $5,000 or $10,000 initial deposit on a completely open-ended contract, and I'm just not at all comfortable with that. If he's busy with clients who will fling five figures his way completely blind, then more power to him, but I'm not one of them.
