Do you ever find yourself attracted to  person who has a certain je ne sais quoi, only to find later on that that je ne sais quoi turns out to be startling similarities in appearance or mannerism to your ex-lover?  This happens to me on a somewhat regular basis - certain body types, heights, mannerisms tend to be recurring in women I find attractive...

Does this happen to you, and is it necessarily a bad thing?

I find all types of people attractive in different ways.  I don't really have a "type," which I consider a blessing.  I'm just in love with females, period.

I tend to date men that have similarities to my first love.  Like dark hair, dark eyes.  There was a guy one time that could have been his twin.  Hmmm never thought about it till now

I guess it would depend.  If you got dumped and you really had a thing for her, i could see you wanting more of the same.  But if you did the dumping, you might be wanting something completely different.  that's the goal if you're moving on right?  I can also see how not just looks, but similar personalities might be something that could carry through.

all the men i've ever dated look and act so very different from each other. guys that remind me of my ex make me run . . .literally. . .my ex was at the rose bowl and jesus christ i ran past him as fast as i could.

I found out why I made the mistake with my first wife of 26 years, worked on my issues and found a woman who is not 180° degrees different, but about 2 miles down the road in the opposite direction from the ex.
I am still working on my issues. I find when I stop examining my attitudes and motivations, I can cause pain to those around me.

yeah it happens to me all the time with girl's im attracted to, so i have to force myself to find someone different, or else that's just creepy.

Previously I dated about 10 different nationalities.  Some where tall some where short.  Some blond, some brunette and some with black hair.  Some were fit and some were not.  Most were very intelligent but I dated a couple stupid ones too.  

As old as 12 years older than I and as young as 7 years younger (my current SO).

Oh...they were not all ex-lovers...these are men I dated and I didn't sleep with many of them.

Everyone is focusing more on the outward physical appearance, and not the inward qualities that I think we tend to look for in people...  Or maybe I read into this thread wrong, but that was my interpretation of je ne sais quoi...

Only two were similar.

Thinking about it ,my husband does have the better inward qualities, he is also the most athletic (now that I think about it)

Well my long time relationship ex maybe .... not so much in looks (she was way hotter than I) but I like goofy girls, sporty, former tomboy types now and Im sure she shaped that preference.

After my break-up I decided to go to the extreme in not wanting to be with anyone that looked like my ex!  From men to women..So no, I want no part in anyone that looks, acts, or resembles that jerk-off of a human-being I was with before  :)

Nope because my ex actually wasn't my "normal" type.  The only thing that would remind me of him would be that if the guy likes to party, other than that. NOPE.

Well, I find guys from Chicago flock to me. I've dated 8-9 guys from the area. I have no idea why. They all got what I call the Chicago Asshole attitude. I now avoid Chicago men.

The things I love about my boyfriend are the things that my exes never had or did.

The big theme with the men I date is that they're all Jewish.

I definitely see where you're getting at.  My current beau is different in so many ways from my ex, I can't think of one common ground.  

But---I would say that I "notice" other guys who either look like my ex, act like him..or just remind me of him.  There's no harm done.  He definitely has his good traits, and because he's my ex---doesn't make him a bad person.  So, I wouldn't eliminate the possibility of being attracted to someone that reminds me of him.

Yes, especially if said ex was amazing in bed.  You just have to wonder if a similar guy of type, height and age would be just as good.
