The Egg & The Eye Pop-Up

What/Why:

WHAT:  The Egg & The Eye Pop-Up

The Craft & Folk Art Museum (CAFAM) is partnering with the Women's Center for Creative Work and Los Angeles Fibershed for a one-day event that celebrates the museum's previous life as The Egg & The Eye. Prior to its incarnation as CAFAM, The Egg & The Eye was a hybrid space created by CAFAM founder Edith Wyle, which included a gallery devoted to craft and world arts, shopping, and a restaurant serving over 50 types of omelets representing world cuisines.

WCCW will prepare omelets as well as soup, dessert, and hot tea and coffee. Menu items are in the $5-10 range. A limited edition broadside showcasing the life and work of Edith Wyle will be available for sale, and guests will be invited to think about the intersections of art, craft, and how we live with objects.

In recognition of women's contribution to craft and especially to the fiber arts, Los Angeles Fibershed will be showcasing different textile processes, allowing visitors to participate in live demonstrations of a knitting machine, spinning wheel, and drum carder using local fibers grown within 150 miles of Downtown L.A. Handmade textiles from LA Fibershed members will be available for sale.

All event proceeds benefit the WCCW and CAFAM.

WHEN: Saturday, December 20, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.

WHERE: 5814 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036

ADMISSION: Free

WHO: Situated on historic Museum Row since 1973, the Craft & Folk Art Museum (CAFAM) is an invaluable contributor to Los Angeles culture, exhibiting current artists with intriguing perspectives and distinctive practices. Exploring the leading edge of craft, art, and design, CAFAM gives audience to diverse makers and artists whose work is often not represented in larger art institutions. The museum is a place to see art and make art -- all under one roof. CAFAM coordinates a robust roster of hands-on workshops led by professional artists and makers. Uncommon discoveries are also guaranteed at the Craft & Folk Art Museum Shop, which offers an expertly curated array of handmade items from skilled artisans. The intimate, atypical museum space and independent spirit at CAFAM combine to create an atmosphere of excitement and innovation, where people in Los Angeles deepen their relationships to art, creativity and one another.
