This is not my favorite place to grab a drink, but it's definitely not my least favorite. It's a fine choice if you live nearby, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here.
Drinks seem reasonably priced and they have decent beers on draft. Food here is relatively cheap and is pretty good. I ordered their truffle fries and my friends ordered burgers (only $4-ish).
This place gets really loud as the night goes on, but that's pretty much the same story at every other place in the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dave V.Allston, Boston, MA575847Nov 17, 2020
We went in for the " Fried Day" Special which is a Milanese or Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich & Fries ($4). Alternatively you can substitute the chicken sandwhich for a Falafel Sandwich & Fries at no extra cost.
For $4 we werent expecting much, but the burger was huge. the bread was nicely toasted, with an aioli, the chicken was crispy and paired well with the pickles. They also gave a generous amount of fries.
Surprisingly the did not require us to purchase a drink to get this deal. But I got one anyways since there was a Harpoon rep there that day giving out harpoon merch with every order of a beer, so I got to take home a pint glass too. They have a decent beer selection. All the beers were reasonably priced ($6-9 each)
The place had a nice bar atmosphere and wasn't loud either. We went around 7, so maybe it would have been louder if we went later in the day.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Catie C.Quincy, MA1786222875Aug 26, 2021Updated review
This place recently opened back up so we gave it a try for dinner. If you aren't a fan of blasting AC when it's over 90 and humid out, then this place is for you. It was slightly cooler in here than outside. didn't feel like much ventilation moving the air.
The burgers came out before the appetizers. They call appetizers "shareables" here so maybe they justifies it? His burger was supposed to be caramelized onions but it came out with raw onions.
I'm mainly giving this one star because both of us got food poisoned. My stomach was hurting! Went once before bed. Another time after I went to bed. And now after my alarm went off in the AM, I'm on the throne again. My ahole is telling me to never go back.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 21, 2008Previous reviewfirst word: Cheap

Cheap and weak goes hand in hand.
I got here a bit early on a Saturday night so I got to watch the place fill up as the night came along. The first thing I noticed as I came in was the stench. The stench of alcohol dissolved into the floors and not been mopped for months on end.
If you like to people watch, this is the place. We noticed a couple guys zipping along the bar targeting one prey to the next. That seemed to be the norm here as we watched the scene. As the night went along, my buddy was getting a buzz. He started talking boobies with me. From one boobie to the next. At times, he'd lean back and ask me to check out the cleavage next to him. Did he forget that he's out drinking with a woman? - Feb 17, 2022
Decided to come out here for a casual date night with my husband since we saw a pool table and a few arcade games like the basketball one! Came on a Thursday night around 7pm and we appreciated that the music isn't super loud yet we enjoyed the vibes here. Service was really nice. I will say, whenever I go to a bar, I don't really expect much for bar food. However, I gotta say, their food was actually quite decently good especially for such reasonable prices! We got Buffalo Brussel sprouts, hot chicken sandwich, steak tips (with garlic mashed potatoes and salad) and a cocktail called pink coconut lemonade. With tip and tax, it was just above $50, which is great in Boston. First, for the drink, I love how you can subtly taste the coconut -- definitely gives the lemonade an extra kick. The Buffalo brussel sprouts was my favorite. The flavor was just on point. I enjoyed the hot chicken sandwich more than the steak tips as the steak tips were quite dry but for right under $15, I really can't complain! The mashed potatoes were so tasty too. Definitely plan on bringing some friends here!

Barbie prefers the Black Horse tavern. But she often goes to the White Wh**es Tavern. I go there with her, I mean, it's pretty much named after me.
I haven't really seen a more British looking pub anywhere in the USA and it honestly could be picked up and plopped down in England and it would look exactly right. However they're offering some more stuff on the American side and it's a little expensive and definitely the food is very American. Still four stars for looking awesome and being in a good location.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Jul 31, 2018
I still had room for a beer and stopped in to White Horse for a frosty beverage. Nice place with the pool tables at one side and a large bar in the center. Maybe not "classy" but definitely upscale. They do check ID's here, but I managed to sneak in just before they started doing that.
They have a wifi which worked well for my Yelping!Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Erika L.Pleasant Hill, IA0142Sep 26, 2020
The server had a rude and disrespectful response when I asked about a drink that had apple in it. "Why would you order that if you don't like apple?" -the server
We were brought out our food and didn't get checked on for almost 20-30 minutes with clearly empty drinks and dirty dishes. Will not be returning & will not recommend.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 19, 2020
Walked into this bar after watching the BC football game nearby...can not say I am glad I did. The servers were nice, not that attentive, but it was getting close to midnight and closing time. They had a decent drink variety for both beer and cocktails. My main issue was with the food. Especially now with customers being mandated to buy food with their drinks, I think the food of even bars is an important thing to consider.
Our group ordered the Irish curry fries and we were drastically disappointed. There was a good amount of cheese on top of them but the fries themselves were wet and somewhat soggy. The curry sauce was also lacking. It tasted like it was extremely watered down, tasted more like water with a tiny bit of curry powder mixed into it. I ended up taking the fries home with me and stuck them in the oven at 450 for 15 minutes and then broiled them for a bit more before they were sorta crispy, but there was nothing to be done about the curry sauce.
While I understand we came in at 11 pm when they were closing at midnight, it was still a very underwhelming first experience. I would maybe reluctantly come here again if a friend insisted, but I would personally push to go somewhere else.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 23, 2018
Don't come to White Horse for the food. Come for the wide open space, the pool tables, and the dance floor where you can awkwardly dance like you're back in college (probably with a few people that actually are in college)! The bar tenders are super friendly and it generally has a ton of open space. You can hit Bon Chon across the street for Korean fried chicken if you get hungry.
The menu is pretty sparse and the food is solid, but boring. We had a burger (nothing special), the chicken finger platter (in desperate need of fries and honey mustard dipping sauce), and the Mac and cheese (the best of the bunch, but very heavy).Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gabrielle S.Newport Beach, CA232Sep 25, 2020
First timer here at the White Horse Tavern. Opted for the pulled pork nachos and was immensely satisfied! They were incredibly loaded, which is nice because sometimes bar nachos come out with more chips and less of everything else. Would recommend them to anyone coming in!
Great service, great energy! The celtics were playing, it was a great night!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Matthew S.Long Beach, CA1442516Jun 28, 2019
No Vegetarian or Plant Based Item Review
Have been going to this incredible restaurant for years and have raved on the spectacular setting, history and class! However, this weeks visit was the biggest disappointment! This restaurant has practically removed all vegetarian items from it menu! Sad to see a great place miss the plant based wave sweeping the globe! Food is good but very overpriced!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
