I get it, and I also don't get all the negative reviews for the post office. This is a governmental agency, you're supposed to expect delays and slowness in service. On top of that they've been having budget cuts for years so if you don't live under a rock, you would know this is a common occurrence.
That said, I've never had bad service from the employees and this location. Yes, The lines go slow but they're really good at keeping it moving even during the busiest times. I recently had one package lost and the branch manager was super nice at assisting me so we could figure out what to do. I will file a claim online now.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 27, 2021Previous reviewI get and I also don't get all the negative reviews for the post office. because of COVID-19 they have added screens in between customers and employees. This is a good move because it protects everyone. - Feb 11, 2024
I dread coming to the Multnomah post office, and somehow, the experience is always worse than I fear. Growing up, I loved visiting the post office - particularly for the unique smell that only post offices seem to exude (is it the stamp glue?). And I much prefer the idea of using a public mail carrier over a private one. But alas, my childhood memories and my values are shattered every time I visit. The lines are always so long, with only 1-3 people working at a time. And without fail, I always have a negative experience. Most recently, I scheduled a timed appointment for a passport. Upon arriving, I waited about 10 minutes in line only to find out that their camera was broken, so I was sent on a wild goose chase to get a more expensive passport photo taken elsewhere and then return to complete the process. And I could go on, but I'm already getting stressed just thinking about my past experiences here. Do yourself a favor and try to avoid this post office unless you only plan to put a package or envelope in the mail.

Friendly neighborhood post office. The passport guy Cody is hilarious! Definitely puts customers at ease about the process and explains things simply so we can get things done without major confusion. If theres a form we are missing, they will prioritize you in line so you don't have to fill it out and wait again. The team really does their best here, despite 10-15 min lines. Could use more staffing, but pick an early hour and your visit should be quick and easy.

I've had great mailman for decades. A new mailman leaves a note telling me I owe 44cents. Ok. Next day I go to the Multnomah office! Paid the 44cents. But! They can't find the letter.

Long story short, I drive 20 - 30 min to avoid an employee at this store.
I came to this location to send some books to an online book seller. The instructions said that I should not need to print the label or pay for the box and related shipping. I am the first to say I do not know how shipping/this process works so I grabbed a USPS box and waited for about 20 min in line to get to a full service counter and ask how I should complete the process. I was cut off before finishing my question, and told that everything I needed including tape were on the USPS box. I was also told I was "expecting to much" when I tried to ask how to tape/appropriately pack the box. I went to the back of the line and tried my best to tape it. I then waited for another 20 min, and unfortunately, came to the same guys counter. This is where he proceeded to tell me how counter-intuitively I taped the box (he was right, but this is also why I tried to get guidance BEFORE taping the box) and that I needed to go and do it over again... a second time, still without any guidance & pay for more tape or both boxes. When I was exasperated and told him this is why I waited to go through the line the first time, for guidance from an all service counter, he again said I was asking too much and how he had never seen someone tape a box so poorly. I expressed my frustration and said ok, thanks, to leave, HE KEPT YELLING ABOUT HOW BAD I AM AT TAPING A BOX. I asked him to stop chastising me and he continued to, until I exited the building.
Usually the staff here are super helpful, even if we need to repeat things for clarity, or patiently work through the process, but never have I been insulted for not knowing how to ship a box, nor being told I expected too much when I went to ship said box.
That day, I ended up not shipping anything, unpacking the box and leaving. It took 2 weeks for me to try again and I drove to 2 locations, each 20-30 min away to avoid this location. I also bought my own box elsewhere and printed the QR label separately to avoid this experience. If I can avoid it, I'll never come here again.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Lauri W.Northwest Portland, Portland, OR07Jul 6, 2022
I know this post office needs a facelift and better conditions for the postal workers inside but with the budget cuts the postal service has had for years now I am impressed with the friendliness of the employees and they do move us along pretty efficiently and politely. Kudos to the newer male employee (by newer it may have been a year or two now, lost track during COVID!) he is spot-on, friendly, articulate and you can definitely hear what he is helping you with even with his mask on:-). Thanks Multnomah P.O.

I am so frustrated and angry with this post office
The 3-4 people at the counter can barely speak English
and when you are wearing the ridiculous "face diaper"
You can't understand them. They have lost valuable packages in the past and there is no accountability. The final straw for me was the other day I went in and wanted 2-day shipping, but the clerk told me they couldn't guarantee it, so I went and spent $51 for overnight shipping, and it is still not delivered. I went to the post office 3/2 and wanted my $$ back, but I was told that due to weather they couldn't give me my $$ back and guarantee overnight delivery?!! WTH?! I was angry and upset and if that clerk had originally told me this I wouldn't so mad. They have no accountabilty and we the customer are not their concern

lately I've had a couple decent experiences here. It is the closest P.O. to my home, so it's a nice walk and if there is a long line, or I simply don't want to wait I turn around and leave.
Today, I planned on just mailing bills, then thought I'd look inside, always can use some stamps. Not a customer inside - the main counter. So I approached, joked with the teller there was no line and I selected some new stamps. Awwww! Fun to pick and choose, I went with the Sesame Street edition. I'll be hard pressed to use these up - anyway, no frills. I haven't really had complicated transactions here. Once I tried entering a bit earlier than they opened and clerk firmly said they weren't open yet. Opening hours are a bit weird. Like 8:30 instead of 8??Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Morgan O.Portland, OR4113Mar 20, 2018
$200 USPS money order they can't cash because they don't have the money. So their policy is tell you "come back around the first of the month we can do it then." That was as useful of advice as farting to keep dry in a hurricane.
Btw don't ask for the manager because they will tell you about how to open a bank account and it is not really their job to deal with money. That is other than the logo of the money order is the same as their name tag...Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - William B.Portland, OR06May 25, 2020
Staff are hard to understand because of their foreign accents. One staff member inverted my package to check something under it even though I told him not to.
Use their other locations.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1
