The Restaurant!
Where is Fort Bragg? Fort Bragg is a very small coastal town just to the north west of Napa. It's where the great trees of the Red Wood Forest meet the beautiful waters of the California Coast. There's nothing more to do in this town other than relax, eat and enjoy the beautiful coasts of Mendocino County.
In this town sits a small quaint eatery called The Restaurant. They have a small but complete menu. We ordered locally caught fresh sole, rock fish and pasta with butter and parmesan cheese. The rice was flavorful and delicious. Everything was good.
Service is great and you will be treated with warm smiles and a family atmosphere even though they know you are not a local.
This is also a great spot for kids. This is a nicer dining experience but they do cat or to kids and offer a surprise beany baby animal.
This place has great service and they take the time to do everything right. I am a fan.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 10Oh no 0 - Mo B.Fairfield, CA10962879Feb 16, 2017
Sadly, they will be closing their doors soon (building was sold). We loved the bourride, the rib eye steak, the crabcakes (were all lump meat crab ). And the chocolate silk pie on pecan/walnut crust was decadent! Wish they would stay in business in another location.
Recently returned to Fort Bragg/Mendocino and noticed a new restaurant at this location... Mayan Fusion. It was delicious!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 18, 2014
This place was ok just ok. Seems like if you don't have a reservation they make you wait in the waiting room. Even when there are a bunch of open seats. Waitress never offered me anything to drink other the water. I had the pork chops. They were pretty good the dipping sauce that came with it tasted a but off but after a few bites it wasn't bad. I find it pretty entertaining that we saw about 30 people come up the the window menu and just turn around and walk away. Ill give this place a second chance but it mite be a while

Delicious dinner! The corn and squash soup was incredibly fresh and tasty, as was the rest of dinner. My companions had the 12 oz steak and it was huge! I had the polenta dinner and it was a standout. All the food was incredible and very fresh tasting. Service was attentive.
Overall, I would recommend The Restaurant to anyone coming through Fort Bragg.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Doreen B.Roseville, CA24835Jan 28, 2016
Pricy, with average tasting food. The prices don't match the quality of food. I had the lemon chicken (on the tart side), which was 2 split breasts, about 1 cup of Asian noodles & small side of fresh sautéed vegetables for $24. A fair price would've been $18. My husband had the panko crusted sole (with tartar sauce), rice & less vegetables than mine, $24, He liked his more than I did. Everyone on these posts raves about artwork! What do I know? Looked like an art store. I much prefer the hipper atmosphere & delicious, generous portions at North Coast Brewing Co just down the street (& only a $$ restaurant, not this $$$ one).

I've walked by this place many times on our trips to Mendocino/Fort Bragg. I think the meat/fish-heavy menu was the deterrent. But...I succumbed the other night and I'm glad I did.
The ambiance has such a traditional feel that I thought the place is probably a real favorite with locals. The next day at a winery in Anderson Valley I met three women from Mendocino that said this was their favorite local restaurant. We saw the owner/chef, Jim, come out to greet people at another table and then later we met his wife. They both seem really sweet and dedicated to maintaining good service and food.
There were two vegetarian entrees on the menu but I wasn't tickled by either. I asked if I could have pasta with a tomato sauce and spinach...and they did that but with much better flavoring than I anticipated. I just ate every morsel and cleaned the plate with some yummy bread. Something about that North Coast air just increases my appetite. My partner had a special seafood stew pasta dish that she enjoyed.
Next time I return I'll try one of their delicious-sounding desserts.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joe B.Fort Bragg, CA533025Dec 14, 2015
Showed up with no reservation and the way it looked I probably should have. They sat us down graciously. The customer service was near perfection. With a set of young waders waiting to be there to serve at any moment. Our personal waitress was on her game. Thank you. My wife had the lobster wish was perfectly cooked. And my rib eye was exactly how I asked for it. Can't hardly wait until we go back again but this time out of courtesy I'm going to make a reservation.

we ordered the oysters 12.. the crabcakes 3. and the seafood stew.
the crab cakes were ok. the seafood stew was good.. the oysters... Ive never had fresh oysters without the shell... strange how unappealing oysters are when they are just randomly plopped on a bed of lettuce.... very bad presentation.. they tasted fresh though... please leave them on the shell otherwise it becomes very apparent just how gross they look.
also kind of hard sell with the dessert.. kept pushing for us to order it to go. no thanks.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Clarissa H.San Francisco, CA2431210Sep 6, 2015
Overall, a wonderful and very satisfying meal, especially because it's not easy to find a decent restaurant open late (or anytime, really) in Fort Bragg. The Restaurant is a very cozy, small-town, homey place. The food is not fancy, but it's very tasty and well-prepared.
We were given some nice warm rolls for bread. As a starter, we had with the house salad with tomato vinegarette - the vinegarette is really good. For our entrees, G had the seafood stew and I had a panko-crusted sole. We both loved our dishes. The broth in the seafood stew was really good, and it was packed with a good amount of seafood. My sole was super fresh and tender, with a nice crisp but not greasy.
The wine list is great too. Most of the bottles were from local Mendocino wineries and under $40. We were very happy with the service as well.. Very nice, friendly and attentive.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 23, 2016
Had a generous and delicious portion of the bourride (seafood stew). Atmosphere is a little slow but I came on a Sunday night when most of the town was closed. The service was great and very personable. A bit pricey but I would still go back. ;)
