Haven't been here several years. It was just too smoky. But they've now gone non-smoking. Much more enjoyable.
Many, many beers to choose from. Full bar and food, too.
Jackie was our server. I'd say she was goth and cool. Provided great service. Came around just when we needed her.
Jack Daniels is $1.00 off on Saturdays!
Had a scotch egg. A bit pricey at almost $6.
Plenty of TVs behind the bar and along several walls. To watch any game you want.
Well worth a repeat visit.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 27, 2016
Came here for Father's Day recently and we were able to find seats at the bar. They had Fuller's London Pride on Cask, which is very hard to find...I've personally only had this beer on cask in England. The waitress was really nice here and super helpful.
As for food, we ordered the Guinness dip & chips, a scotch egg, and the Shepherd's pie. All of it was really good. I really like the way they make their "chips" aka french fries. They are like little potato slices. The cheese dip was also very good. The scotch egg was cooked perfectly and so was the Shepherd's pie.
I know there may be some bad ratings of this place, but I received great customer service, food, and beer and will definitely be coming back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 12, 2016
No more smoking!
The Lion and Rose has always been an "okay" place - service can be iffy and the food is never great but a few things are generally decent (i.e fish and chips) but we enjoyed the true pub atmosphere and character of the place more than anything, including the smoke. Yes, smoking is horrible, we all know, but it was part of that pub feel, along with the decor, the dartboards, etc. People enjoyed having a place to do all that. Maybe they think business will pick up now that they've eliminated smoking but, considering a few of their non-smoking locations closed, I don't think it will make a difference. For non-smoking bars and pubs, there are better places closer, so we won't be making that drive across town anymore. Thanks for the good times!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 22, 2014
Good ambiance, a little smoky, don't recommend it for children but good drink specials...coming back for lunch & drinks again! Food wasn't bad for a bar...

Yvonne, Thank you for the five star review! This is our only location that allows smoking, our other 3 locations are all non-smoking. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the drink specials and overall ambiance at The Lion & Rose! We are looking forward to your return!

This pub used to be a favorite for lunch or drinks after work. But after finding a cockroach in the French onion soup, I will NEVER go back!
Take my advice and stay away from this place.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tori B.Augusta, GA2365748Apr 24, 2017
This was the best lion and the Rose with the friendliest staff and excellent bartenders. Too bad they closed it. And did so with no warning to their employees! Food was classic pub fare and not too shabby. The beer selection was on point and you can't beat that atmosphere. I hope it gets reopened and given new life. It was a great place.
I will never go to another lion and the Rose after the way I saw their employees treated.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Stephen C.San Antonio, TX6936287018Mar 20, 2012
Give it up for English Pub Grub and a cool pint of your favorite beverage!!
Love this place. The decor says chill-in pub. Always a soccer game or rugby game on the tube with loyal fans in attendance. Great selection of beers and ales. This place knows how to pour a black and tan.
They have some really great food here to go with the cold pints. Some of my favorites are the Sheppard's pie, fish and chips, Scotch eggs, and the chips with Guinness cheddar cheese. But all the food is so good and so filling.
The waitresses are always cheerful and helpful. They are always on top of things and never keep one waiting.

Ok, so I've been here before but didn't review (although I thought I had, I just saw that I hadn't... oh well). Went here on the 30th and met up with Jamie B. and her bad@ss group of derby girls for Geeks Who Drink (sans Ms. Kimmie!!! *tear*) I didn't order anything except a Coke but I know that their apps are REALLY good! The fried onion petals and the dip, sweet potato fries and the hot wings are SO yummy. And the bangers and mash with mustard... ooohhhh
Plenty of seating (even with the crowd) and of course the atmosphere is always nice. Jamie did make a point though - the waitress was a bit on the slow side. Even when we were trying to check out. Despite that, a good time was had by all.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 11238747485Apr 13, 2009
As an out-of-towner, this bar was recommended to my friend and me by our cab driver. I'm a huge fan of Pubs, and this one did me well.
We met some regulars sitting at the bar that were very friendly, and we all played a few games of darts together.
The beer selection is great!!! And although we didn't order food, the meals I saw being served looked delicious.
I was in San Antonio for a just a few days, and the time spent here was the best time I had. Period.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tanya T.San Antonio, TX224219Jun 21, 2010
Love it! Husband is English so we're always looking for his type of 'home cooked food' and this place comes the closest we've found. The atmosphere is actually very similar to an English pub though if you go to another location (like the one on 410) you get a more Americanized version. The beer selection is good and most of the food is great, though the banger rolls (sausage rolls) are sometimes undercooked. I highly recommend the Scotched Eggs and their meatloaf (know it's not really a British food but it's totally worth it!).
All in all, just go to enjoy a good time, you'll have one. I guarantee it!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
