I haven't been to soggy paws in a few years since I moved. Today my Lil guy decided that on a gorgeous autumn run he would LOVE to roll on dead leaves and dead fish by the lake.... my lil guy is a Shepherd sharpei mix and is in between times until his next grooming appt...
Today I used the self wash at soggy paws... they cater to what kind of shampoo and conditioner your dog needs and mix it for you. The tubs are large. .. the water is warm and it was a easy and fun bonding experience with me and my dog. I have only bathed gizmo one other time on my own... he has that impossible under coat so I usually dont.. the staff was friendly and helpful.... gizmo enjoyed his bath and spending time with his mom. ... he even got yummy raw treats...
Great place to just give your pooch a quick bath if they don't need the full service cut yet.... Def will be back for those in between appt time framesHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sarah V.Chicago, IL755433166Aug 25, 2010
Hmmm, should I love you or hate you, Soggy Paws? Thanks to you, I have lost my cat to nip-nitis. That's right. I bought a catnip banana here for 50% off ($3.50 is a fabulous deal!) and now all I get from my little bundle of joy is a bundle of sass if I take her silly nip nanner away. Athena was a sweet cat who enjoyed affection, the company of others, drug-free and never made a peep. Now she's a loud-mouthed addict who demands her nip sprinkled on her blanket, scratching pad, the works. Hope you supply NA to cats with similar stories.
On the other hand, you were a haven from torrential downpours at Mayfest this year, so I do thank you for that. And you had soft sparkly balls that little Miss Priss loves, when the banana is well concealed.
I suppose I'll come around again, Soggy Paws. But I'm staying far far away from your nip stash, hopefully you will have more treats and goodies for kitties, too.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Rachel D.Woodridge, IL4017624Sep 8, 2010
Thanks to Sarah E. I have now discovered the best catnip toy for my little munchkin Cubby! whoohoo!!
He never really used to react to catnip, so I was a little hesitant to buy the catnip banana, and at $7 it is a little expensive. But oh.my.gosh....he loves it and can't stop licking it and won't share it with my current foster kittens! It's the perfect size for him to grab and chew on. Though the catnip smell is STRONG, so when I pick him up for some cuddle time I end up smelling like it too. But I think it's worth it! He is a happy camper and so is his momma!
One disappointment was the glitter ball. The string broke after 1 day of playing. My cats loved it and now can use it to just bat up and down the hallway....which is ok. But the best part of the toy was the rubberband string. Has anyone else had this problem? Or are my cats just psycho crazy?!
They have a wide range of food, toys, leashes, etc. Their bath stations look awesome and so cute. Almost makes my want a dog so I can give him baths in their cool tubs! Everything was clean and orderly and displayed with care. I will be back the next time my cat needs a special toy!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Sep 21, 2009
This place was abuzz with activity when we went in! We needed to get our kitty groomed, as he was all matted up. He's never been to the groomer, and cries when he has to go in the carrier, not to mention he scatters pretty quickly when ANYONE he doesn't recognize is around. I must say I was pretty nervous - I just knew he was going to have a heart attack because of the razor and all. I kinda calmed down when an hour had passed and I hadn't gotten a call from them to head to the vet. (I am not even joking - I don't know what the hell I'll do when I have kids.)
Three hours after we took him in, we got a phone call that he was ready to pick up. All shaved and beautiful, with not a section of matted hair to be seen! He even looks cute in his little lion cut... now if his brother would just stop with the hissing and freaking out and realize it's him!
The staff were all really friendly and helpful, which put both me and the kitty at ease, I'm sure. They also have a frequent-buyer program for some of (if not all) their foods, it appears, and they really care for animals and what's best for them.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Raul I.Chicago, IL12521245Dec 9, 2015
The staff here is always super friendly and polite.
I have brought my 5 yr old Shih Tzu here at least 4 times in the past year and have had nothing but good and positive experiences. My little guy, Buddy, always comes back happy, fresh and clean.
I always use their full service grooming services, but if you prefer, they do have a couple of grooming stations so you can do it yourself.
I highly recommend it if you're considering using their services.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Colleen C.Austin, TX423427862719Nov 26, 2008
Well, Tillie likes to get her nails did, too...mmmk? The apple doesn't fall far from the tree!
Actually, she hates getting her nails done...and after unsuccessfully chasing her throughout my very small apartment, I threw in the proverbial nail-clippin' towel, and headed to Soggy Paws.
She's a diva.
My one concern with groomers is that my lovely canine companion is not so fond of other pooches. Actually, she'll cause a mini-hurricane....soooo, I like to keep everyone's general health and safety in mind when I bring her into small, enclosed spaces that may house other dogs.
I called ahead. Paul assured me it was a slow time, and to just come on over, no appointment necessary. He even said, "don't worry so much, it will make your dog nervous." Good point. I agree...so I got all zen and took my dog to Soggy Paws.
I walked in, and it was just the one woman working and her calm dog. She put her dog behind a gate, and there was no trouble. Outta sight, outta mind...if Tillie can't see 'em, she doesn't care. My blood pressure decreased slightly...
It was sort of a whirlwind after that...the woman took the leash, told me to hang up my coat and purse. Ummm, ok. She whisked Miss T off into a back room for some "nail grinding," and wrestled with my stubborn-ass dog for about 15 minutes to get all the nails trimmed. Told ya, diva. It was a bit hard to watch, but I trusted that the groomer knew what she was doing. She was stern, and of course...my dog is a big, huge, soft, baby...so she wasn't happy. No pain, no gain...she got over it, and was absolutely fine.
The woman was a bit...brusque. However, she did a fine job. My only complaint is that since I was a new customer, I would've appreciated a bit of a rundown before the "session" began. After T's nails were clipped, she was immediately plopped into a wash basin, which I didn't want to do that day. I had to explain to the woman that I just wanted her nails clipped...which I would've preferred to happen beforehand.
Also, I think getting a bit more info would be appropriate. Like, my dog doesn't bite or nip...but I'm sure others do. Shouldn't they ask about that kind of stuff before the manicure begins?
They also do self-wash stations, full grooming, and have a small line of leashes, food, accessories, etc.
$10 for a nail trim sure beats the hell outta tackling her and strapping her to the couch. ;) (kidding, I would never do that).Helpful 17Thanks 0Love this 24Oh no 0 - Mark P.Denver, CO343Apr 2, 2012
As a regular customer I recently tried to make an appointment. They advised since my dog is a larger breed and takes so long they could not accept him on the weekends. This is very poor planning and it sounds like they are more concerned with the money more then customer. Having an appointment one month out they should be able to figure something out.
I called back to schedule an appointment during the week, since the weekend seemed to be the problem. Kevin, who claimed to be one of the owners, said they could not accept my pet anymore. He claimed that I said things that were never said and wanted to argue about it. I'm sure he is a real gem in the customer service department. I hung up and will never return.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Katie C.Chicago, IL3857Apr 6, 2008
Misha and I just got back from Soggy Paws and we had such a good time. I originally went in to take advantage of the "bucket wash" It was a deal that I read about where if your dog was 5 pounds or could fit in the bucket, you got a reduced price of $10, as opposed to fully price of $18 for the self wash. Well....their not doing that anymore.? However, the 18$ was a small price to pay for the fun time we had.
The staff was really helpful and walked me though the whole process so I could get the little lady as clean and dry as possible. They custom designed a shampoo and a conditioner. They also started the pup off with a mango face wash!
The washing was done in her own individual tub and I was given a cubbie to put my things and an apron so that I wouldn't get wet. It was all very convient. I then blew her dry with a high powered blow dried that had her dry in just a few minutes.
I also noticed that they were holding obedience classes. When I inquired about them, I was told that I could sit in on the class for a few minutes to see how the class was organized. The instructor was a genius! She had the dogs doing newly trained behavior in a matter of minutes. It was amazing. And all the while she was training the dogs with this treat that was irresistible to them and very small. It looked like she was tearing little pieces off a chewy block.
I had to have that treat. The woman working at the front directed me to the treat. For a huge log of this sausage thing, Its actually called "Artemis lamb & rice formula", its only 4 bucks. I use to be paying 9 for treats that were gone in a week.
Soggy Paws get an A+ and I will definitely be back for the training classes.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Din D.Cook, IL1164913Dec 22, 2013
Poor service. I have been here 2 times now and both times were filled with disappointment, frustration, waste of time and money. Both times I asked that my dogs be combed and dried proper and both times they failed.
The first time my bf picked them up and brought them home only for me to find them still very damp and sloppy looking with loose shedding hair all over them still. Now keep in mind i only bring them here because i dont have the time to do it myself. I winded up having to take them back so they can do a proper job, and even then it was bare minimum. Which was where the frustration waste of time and money comes into play.
The second time my bf dropped them off, he made sure to specifically tell them AGAIN and to make sure that that doesn't happen this time around. So This time I went in to pick them up so I that I can properly inspect them. Sure enough, same thing. The young girl seemed annoyed that I pulled off clumps of hair when I pet him and showed her where he was still damp. Her excuse was that she did comb him and that hair was just flying around the place.... So wouldn't that make ur place of grooming a messy one which then takes away from the point of it being an establishment for CLEANING?! They winded up taking the dog back THREE times to "dry" and each time he came out he was clearly still wet. I couldn't take it anymore cuz at this point it was wasting my time and a joke.
They don't even trim around the belly area to clean it up and make it look proper. They charge more and do a lot less than what I am used to for a groomer. When I called to tell them about my dissatisfaction, yet again, the young man on the phone didn't really seem to care that they just lost a customer with 2 full sized dogs who even tips for their poor service and waste of time. Never again.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - J B.Chicago, IL013Dec 5, 2008
I took my golden for a short trim last summer and I came to pick her up and she was completely shaved. I wasn't too happy . . .
The groomer in there was not particularly friendly either!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Agreed; the dog was completely shaved because when the customer arrived she said, verbatim: "i want my dog to look like a lab." Her Golden Retriever had a beautiful, dark-red coat. We tried to talk her out of it but she insisted. In this case, we did EXACTLY what the customer wanted. She didn't like it, despite our cautions. Efforts to reach her via Yelp haven't been returned.
