We moved down the street from Pretzel Bell's Captain's room, celebrating my 40th birthday on a Saturday night about 11:30pm. We were looking for a party. Everywhere was packed. The ten of us were trying to decide where to go and what to do, when my ladies hit up the bouncer and manager standing outside of Rush.
Manager took me inside to check out the VIP area. Each seating holds 10 and with the section, you get a magnum of champagne. The cost was reasonable (~$110) for everyone including Champagne. We had a bouncer at the booth, so we didn't have to worry about purses and belongings. The waitress was nice and attentive. The manager lit a firework that was tied to the champagne bottle and brought it over to the table. That was a lot of fun and really special. For an impromptu party, this was fantastic.
We were the only ones in the VIP section. The raised stage next to the DJ booth was just next to the VIP section. The bouncer watches the stage and allows only ladies to dance on it. The place was packed. Only downside was the heat. IT WAS SO BLOODY HOT. If only there was a fan back there to help keep the air moving, it would have been perfect.
Bottle service is available for each VIP table. Thanks for the memorable birthday party Rush!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 10, 2015
Only went here for literally like ten minutes this past Friday night.
A friend was having a birthday party, we stopped at Babs' first and then Rush Street was supposed to be the second stop. It was curiously empty for a Friday night so he and his friends decided to go to Habana soon after arriving. Meanwhile, another friend and I had just ordered drinks, so we stayed and danced for a while. The DJ, DJ Hardy, was pretty good, and Rush has a small but nice dance floor.
Cover starts at 11:30pm also (at least on Fridays) so get there before then.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 16, 2012
I'll be honest, if I'm looking to go out dancing, Rush Street would not be my first choice. However, Rush Street is perfect to grab a drink in a very cool, modern looking environment and hang out. I suppose going there with the right expectation is the key.
I've been there several times and the staff has always been friendly, and the drinks inexpensive and strong. I have seen a few dbags there from time to time but they generally just stare at themselves and leave the rest of us alone.
It's Main Street location is perfect to grab a pretty mean cosmo, hang out with friends, and people watch.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tristan L.Ann Arbor Charter Township, MI01Oct 28, 2017
If I could give this place a 0, I would've. This place blatantly discriminated against my friends and I. We had been there for 30+ mins and have bought numerous drinks. We were there chatting up 3/4 bartenders when two white males in security/management came up to me specifically and said there's no vaping allowed you cannot do that here. One of bartenders reporting vaping at the end of the bar and apparently in security/managements eyes it had to be one of the black guys there even though a white man was seen vaping by numerous other patrons. So my friends and I were confronted by security/management. After denying the claims, heck I even turned out all my pockets, we wanted to have a conversation on how that looked quite bad that the first and only people confronted by this were a couple of the only black people in the club. We were told by one of the staff that he no longer wanted to have this conversation and therefore we all needed to leave. So we were kicked out.
I have never experienced such blatant disregard for those that are patrons of your establishment. We all had a tab open at your establishment for God sakes. There is no way that Rush St. will ever get another dime of my money. If you are a person of color, I caution you on becoming a patron of this establishment. They will take your money and treat you very poorly.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Shelby B.Ann Arbor, MI01Sep 11, 2016
This place is almost as bad as Rick's. It tries to be classy but falls so short it's laughable.
The layout of the building is so bad that there is no space to move without walking into someone. This alone makes the whole experience annoying because you can't go more than a few seconds without someone shoving or bumping into you. Forget dancing, forget trying to get to the bar or bathroom.
Also, because the place is so small, it reaches capacity pretty quickly. The line to get in becomes super long and you have to wait for people to leave to get in. Totally not worth the wait.
They also always turn on the lights about 15 minutes early, usually about 1:45am. Then the music stops at about 1:55 and then the bouncers start herding people out. You're usually out of the building before 2am because that's just how they do things there.
This place is a last resort and I only go if I'm trying to be polite when other friends want to go. I wouldn't ever recommend this club to anyone. Only giving it two stars because the long islands are strong.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (erinkl…)Washington, DC74146193Aug 5, 2009
This bar/restaurant is located in downtown Ann Arbor.
I've never been here to eat, so I don't know if the food is good or not. However, I have visited the bar at night. The drinks did taste good, and the cranberry and vodka was made with cranberry juice rather than cranberry cocktail. That earns some points in my book.
Overall, the bar was crowded and there wasn't anyplace to stash our coats. There is a good dance floor though.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tyler B.Ann Arbor, MI51255Apr 25, 2009
Rush Street, do you even care anymore? Do you have a future or are you biding your time until you close? These are the questions that ran through my head as I tried to drink at your bar Friday.
I had made plans with friends to grab an outside table at Rush on a gorgeous Friday for happy hour. Except when I showed up, there was no outdoor seating. So I went inside to wait for friends and tried to order an Oberon on draft. "We don't have any taps" is what you told me. Um, you used to be able to sit outside here and drink a cold glass Bells, am I wrong?
So I ordered a vodky sodie just as my friends informed me that they had moved down the street due to your lack of al fresco options. I guzzle it down and cash out, only to find that my second booze of choice just cost me $5. During happy hour. You used to have a happy hour Rush, I remember it.
If your going to just go through the motions, give up your lease and give someone else a chance to make something of your valuable real estate. You clearly don't care anymore. I'm beginning to wonder if you ever even did.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Alex H.San Francisco, CA476121700Feb 28, 2013
This place is not my kind of place. I asked for an el presidente, and the bartender had no idea what it was. The bartender then "recommended" a jameson and ginger. Recommending jameson and ginger is like recommending a helmet to a bike rider, it's not very experimental or dangerous. And if I'm gonna pay for a drink, I might as well live dangerously and get something that doesn't taste like the inside of a bathroom stall.
Rush street is hip, and cool. But the drinks are meh worthy, and if you go into the bathroom there isn't even any free cocaine! If you're going to make your club try and feel like the hip clubs in LA, then you might as well have some cocaine in your bathrooms. Is that so much to ask?
Basically what I am saying is, this place is too cool for me. It's so cool it could be at the top of the arctic circle. But that's not where I am. I'm more of a temperate climate kind of guy, and this place just isn't for people like me.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Patrick T.Modesto, CA5188491966Nov 6, 2012
Small dance floor but a fun place. The bongo guy works it pretty hard. Crowd is grad students/young professionals.
Drinks are overpriced.
I haven't seen a violin guy in a while, which is good. He was terrbile. Played off pitch.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Allison O.Ann Arbor, MI98362157Jun 20, 2016
I would have given a better rating because of a good experience I had here this weekend but I've been here before and know better. At a prior visit, I have had horrible service. Forgotten drink order after waitress came by and I wanted to cash out at the same time. She forgot the drink and also held my credit card hostage so I had to hunt her down to say forget it and give me my card. This bar/club is dark and dingy and has seen a fair number of poor behavior by patrons. However, this weekend I had a great waitress. We sat outside for a beer because it was so nice outside and surprisingly they had a happy hour on Saturday. Our waitress was lovely. Very friendly and outgoing; I'd come back if I had her as a waitress every time.
