Every time we visit, we stop here. I share a Greek salad with my stepdad and we each get the 9 pierogi dinner! The fillings are all great. Can't beat having onions and bacon on top either. Thank you for making the best pierogis. I love making them homemade but this place is the only restaurant we can find to make them just as great.

Still tasty. I had the mediterranean gyro w/ wilted spinach, roasted tomatoes, basil pesto and mozzarella. Others had breakfast, and the beet salad w/ orange marmalade dressing. Service was good, fyi they're hiring servers and cooks at present.
When you order salad w/ a meat there's an upcharge, oh well. It's still nice that diners have a choice of a medium or large salad, the medium is a good portion, also. This business also does catering, but the catering arm has a different name, Uptown, I think. I saw the van in the parking lot but don't quote me, eh?Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Apr 1, 2008Previous reviewI've now been here about three times and I will definitely continue to go back. Pita and tzaziki(sp?), hummus, spanikopita, saganaki, so many appetizers so little time. Then, onto the main courses, the salads are great, as are the open faced pita w/ anything. I have not even tried the gyros. The salads come with lots of olives (kalmata) and I tend to ask for more olives and the service is always obliging. I love olives and Greek food. So Very Good. Reasonable prices, nice service, great Greek along with some Polish offerings. I've also tried the baklava, it was good but it'd less expensive to buy your own at the now defunct *folgarelli's (due to reopen in May?).

So the food here is consistently good. Basic Greek fare and pretty tasty. Today's experience wasn't great though. The restaurant was understaffed, which caused the cook and wait staff to make a few mistakes. And it was dirty, really dirty. The floors, tables and especially the rest room. Not like they were busy that afternoon and hadn't been able to clean yet kind of dirty; but that, this place has poor management kind of dirty. Too bad, I liked the food.

OMGoodness, The food was Awesome!!! Our waitress Shelly was Super, She treated us great, really took great care of us, refilled our pops and made sure we were taken care of. We moved up north from downstate to Roscommon a year ago and We were in Traverse City and stopped in to Opa! And OMG the Coney was just like downstate, It tasted as good as home and my son and daughter had the Stick em up burger and OMG it was EXCELLENT. I definitely recommend if your in TC you stop in and dine at OPA!! Great Prices too!!! I can not say enough positive stuff about this restaurant!! Also it was very very clean! Will Definitely be dining there again next time we are in TC!!

One of our regular places. Great Detroit style coney dogs, chili cheese fries, gyros and amazing Polish food. Pierogis are outstanding, just like the ones we buy at the Polish market downstate. Greek pastitsio and moussaka are fair. Specials can be fun. My favorite breakfast is chili cheese fries with a egg on top. Not on the menu, have to ask.

Wish we would have checked Yelp before dining here!
Service was terribly, deathly slow. Detroit dog and Flint dog were no better than Sonic or a snack stand at a ball game. Mediterranean Pita was small, hummus was so dry it was in sheets, and the vegetables were clearly not fresh.
Super expensive for what was received.
My bf DID like the french fries, though.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tracy B.Traverse City, MI21132Oct 14, 2017Updated review
It's my daughter's birthday today... It's the only reason we came. She continues to like this place even though we don't come here anymore because the cost and the service has gotten ridiculous. We are just leaving and we've been here an hour and a half. No lunch at the Coney Island should take this long.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Apr 27, 2016Previous reviewWent back tonight cuz my daughter likes the soup. 3 meals: gyro with salad; grecian (veggie and cheese) pita; bowl of soup; saganaki; 2 glasses of house wine, one beer and a root beer:$58!! About 20% higher than it should be. Could explain why only 4 tables were occupied at 6:30. The food was from a coney/ grill, not a downtown bistro, its a strip mall location, I'll go back if they start doing coupons again.
Aug 18, 2015Previous reviewToo expensive, a cup of lemon rice soup should not be $3.50. It is one of the cheapest soups to make! The kids meals are a little pricey too... When we first started going here five years ago a small piece of the flaming cheese was about five dollars, it's $8.50 now and they charged $1.29 for extra pita... Really?? Is this a Coney Island, or a fine dining establishment?

Overpriced coney food and even worse service. Came in on Saturday at dinner time and the place was almost empty - should have noticed the red flag.
The waitress was very odd and was lacking social skills. She did a good job at making us feel awkward while providing poor service. For example, she walked up to our table and didn't say anything at all. She just stood there with a pen and paper. Fortunately, my wife had the sense to combat the awkwardness by asking for a water. It was weird.
No drink refills, no checking up on us, took forever to get in and out, and our bill came to $45 for 3 people who ate gyros and salad. Two of us drank water and one of us had an iced tea.
Where I'm from originally (metro Detroit), the point of a coney is to get good service and good food quickly... And at a good value. This place missed all 3 elements. Definitely won't return.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Denise V.Brighton, MI011Apr 25, 2017
Uptown Catering did the venue for my daughter's destination wedding. Owner Paul and his wife Bridget were awesome to work with. A few months prior to the wedding we came in town to Paul's restaurant Opa for food tasting, which was a really good experience with so many delicious choices.
The whole experience was a great one. Everything they promised was exactly what was delivered. We had so many guests tell us how great the food was. Their food service & Bar service were top shelf! In addition, they worked together with our hall people in changing the room over from the wedding ceremony to the reception hall, with such an attention to details.
They truly are the whole package, and I can't say enough good things about the experience. I highly recommend them!!!
Thank you Paul, Bridget & StaffHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
