      Ice Cream Sandwiches are here!!!

So yum and so close to the PATH train. What a nice treat in this cold weather. The sign on Insomnia Cookies says that Summer is almost here. Well Summer is being sold now in the form of ice cream sandwiches for $3.00.

I asked the guy behind the counter what kind of ice cream it was. I was hoping he'd tell me the brand or if it were made in house (wishful thinking). No dice. The ice cream is "chocolate and vanilla swirl". Good enough for me. I chose it to be sandwiched in between two warm not so sweet oatmeal raisin cookies. The ice cream scoop was not so much that it would make the sandwich messy. It was just right and actually needed zero napkins during consumption.

Hooray for Insomnia Cookies. It's been four years and they are still open on 8th Street while everything else seems to have gone out of business.

I really think this city has a conspiracy against me trying to keep my fat ass from sticking to a healthy diet.

It's a planned submersive activity pumping out that amazingly lure inducing sweet baked cookie smell in front of each store.

They purposely put these places in strategic locations to break down your defenses when stumbling out of a bar drunk and craving something horribly bad to eat.

Gooey warm soft and chewy triple chocolate chunk cookie along with a peanut butter cookie are so worth the $1.25 price tag.

No real seating in here. You just stand and devour your sugary cookie goodness while inhaling the gloriously sweet cookie air.

Open really really late. Oh, they deliver too so you can score an extra fix when you get home and you're out of Captain Crunch.

It's all just such an ingenious evil plan. It really is.

I cannot sleep without thinking of you
I cannot stop dreaming of your delightfulness
I cannot live without your aromatic scent
With solid definite underwriting, it bears substance
      Soft chewy consistency
The chocolate melts from the heat of the oven
Like a drug, I've become addicted to you
That I yearn for more and more
Without going bankrupt, at $1.25 each, ergo I reach a Requiem
      I can never kick cookies
I am a cookie addict... YEAHHHHH!!

Freshly baked to entice my senses upon my entrance
Seating is very limited to a microsopic bar stool area
Where the table space is occupy magazines, promotional flyers and other mindless local event cards
      No facilities exist on site
One Chocolate Chunk at $1.25 and one Oatmeal Raisin at $1.25
Good quality cookies at extreme reasonable prices
Low and behold, an incompetent or dodo cashier doped my change for $5.00 at a bill totally $2.50
Yet I loudly voice my missing change from $5.00 with a receipt in hand
Results in panic and visible big error to the cashier who immediately rectify the situation
Staff cannot hone customer service skills nor are they able to perform basic cashiering transactions, honestly in a permissive graceful attitude!!

      Cookies, you've re-consituted my heart
For my heart is seriously delinquent in pain
I am a cookie addict... YEAHHHHH!!

Many thanks to Phil H. who droned me to become an Insomnia addict--just not at West 8th Street.

The cookies at Insomnia are definitely better than your average cookie. This cool little shop in the West Village, supposedly, has a pretty big following. They're open until 2:30 AM, and they deliver cookies!

I walked in, and was greeted by a very friendly, funny guy behind the counter. I got a chocolate chip cookie, since it was a test run for me. He even suggested that, as well. They serve them warm by keeping them in some heater, very nifty idea.

The milk chocolate in the cookie was scrumptious. Gooey, very soft texture, just how it should be. But, the flavor of the cookie dough was NOT so, so special. Although it was very tasty, the dough could have been a little better.

The shocking part, each cookie is only ONE DOLLAR. Yes, $1. Awesome deal. I mean, yes, you can go to Jacques Torres and get a better, more intelligently delicious chocolate chip cookie, but it'll cost you.

Insomnia is great, I'd definitely recommend taking a dollar and trying this place out, can't hurt ya.

The smell is intoxicating. But after receiving pretty rude attitude over an innocent question - "Do you have anymore cookie cakes for the day?" - I will definitely not be coming back.

And, no, they didn't have anymore. And clearly we should be punished for that by disinterested help and, essentially, cookie torture.

what's with the hype?? I've given insomnia two chances

--- got the s'mores cookie (under staff recommendation): we ate it there for maximum freshness!!... it was kind of crunchy & dry... perhaps we shoulda stuck w/ chocolate chip? THUS months later I came back...
---chocolate chunk: less expensive since it's not a specialty cookie ($1.50) nice melted chocolate BUT ALSO CRUNCHY and crispy when I came on a separate occasion!!

NOTE: there are a few counter seats in store

I love when I go somewhere and there is a great story attached to it. So I wanted dessert and it was past midnight, so I look on my phone and find a place that said they were open late. We take the train there and of course they were closed. UGH! I swear this always happens to me when I drag a bunch of folks along. Anyways, so we look again and Insomnia Cookies comes up, I give them a call to make sure they're open, then we head over.

As we're standing there ordering our cookies, I'm talking about this burner party, blah blah blah. The clerk overhears me and says, "Oh I'll probably be there". So of course, my first question is, "do you go to burning man?". Which is a totally legitimate question because there are a lot of people out there that pretend to be burners because they have a few friends that go. Anyways, he says, "yea". So I start freaking out because here I am 3000 miles away from the playa running into another burner at a cookie store at 1am! Now I don't look like your "typical" burner, whatever that is, but I'm sure you have a picture of someone with dreadlocks in mind. The clerk is staring at me like I'm a crazy person because I keep saying how cool it is to run into him.

We start chatting about our years on the playa and I mention that I have a Burning Man tattoo on my foot (which is tucked away under boots, jeans and socks). He says he has one too, but on his leg. Most people that get tattoos of the man, get the symbol that's on their website. I, of course did not, I got this other random drawing of him, which I've only seen a few times. But to put things completely over the edge, he has the EXACT SAME TATTOO as me!! Off come the boots and socks to show him. He is not quite as enthralled as I am, but whatever, he was probably high.

So here I am at a small little cookie joint at 1 am, standing there with one boot off comparing Burning Man tattoos with this guy. My entire group was like WTF is going on!? (None of them are burners) Needless to say, it made my night. Oh and the cookies were stellar! They have tons of flavors and sizes, YUM YUM!

I like cookies with milk, so when I saw a Groupon deal for Insomnia Cookies, I bought it right away. I arrived to the small cookie shop and placed my order for 2 dozen freshly baked cookies. Each dozen was placed inside an inside out pizza box. Talk about being going green, they've got it.

My favorites is the oatmeal raisin and white chocolate macadamia nut. All their cookies were really soft and chewy. I was a happy camper taking both boxes of cookies home, probably made some people hungry on the train from the aroma of my cookies. I got home and took a few bites out of the cookies, only to realize I had no more milk in the fridge. Well at least I have enough cookies to last me for awhile.

If you're lucky, they always have this promo going on for free cookies. http://www.tenka.com/creative/redeemer-37424/75115.htm

Yes, very delish cookies, however sometimes the service can be lacking. For the most parts the dudes are friendly and helpful even though I'm a complete idiot when I was ordering cookies. I just see the hot cookies that smell great in front of me and cannot think straight. The dudettes we've dealt with don't seem that friendly and were kind of catty.

You probably got insomnia because you're up all night thinking of these cookies.
