I and my co-workers stopped back in to the Noodle Bar & Grill after not having dined there for a few months, and the food is still quite delicious. Everyone in my party of six enjoyed their dishes, from the pho to the udon to the philly steak subs. We were the only patrons for an early lunch on a weekday (we arrived before noon), so our water glasses were kept full and all three servers kept an eye on us.
The tables are still a smidge wobbly, the tablecloths just an inch or two too short, and the ambiance and decor are at odds with the menu... but I stand by my decision to keep this on my list of lunch destinations for downtown Toledo.
PS: My dining companions told me that, on a previous visit, they had each ordered the Asian Fusion Dog (a hot dog topped with kimchi), and neither were impressed by it, for different reasons. Sounds like a good concept that needs work, so try that one at your own risk.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 14, 2015Previous reviewI'm always excited to see a new restaurant in downtown Toledo -- even more so when it's a noodle restaurant. Luckily, Noodle Bar & Grill is so much more than a noodle bar; even if you're not into Vietnamese pho noodle soup or Korean kimchi, you'll find something on the menu to entice you.
I and my co-workers ate at Noodle Bar & Grill on its opening day. I ordered the pho, and my companions both ordered the Philly steak sandwich. We all enjoyed our entrees, and are looking forward to going back to sample some of the other menu items, like the Fusion Dog with kimchi or the pan-fried noodles or the Southern mac & cheese (customizable!).
My only real complaint was paying over $2 for hot tea and getting a tea bag of the same generic tea that one might find at one's workplace for free.
Overall, though, I'm excited to have a place where I and my co-workers can all go and get delicious food that's either a touch adventurous or not so much. - Ryan B.Toledo, OH145179250Dec 13, 2015
This is among the weirdest and worst Asian restaurants in Toledo, and that's saying something because there are some really awful places to contend with. If you can get past how bizarre the actual space and the menu are, there are some edible things.
I've had the pho there 3 times. It is not authentic pho and the "beef" they use is basically garbage, but the broth is ok and it's a filling meal for around $10. Strangely it comes with flatbread, which is pretty good.
The pan fried noodles are ok. Again, the meat quality is pretty low, but the dish, while kind of bland, isn't too bad. The General Tso's chicken is a bizarre version, in keeping with the restaurant's super bizarre theme.
You can also get spaghetti, quesadillas, and a host of other random stuff that I assume is probably not great.
The lettuce wraps are a worthy appetizer and the pot stickers are ok too. Nothing here will blow you away.
The service is always just completely awful. This isn't really a restaurant so much as a hotel cafeteria. No one who works there knows anything about the food and doesn't seem to care. It almost seems like they hire new people each day who happen to have the day off from Home Depot or some other totally unrelated job and who seem utterly mystified by Asia as a concept and wholly flabbergasted by the idea of Asian food.
Strange place. Weird environment. Edible but not great food. Terrible service. There really is no real reason to go.
But, if you're up for a weird night, it's worth trying (I guess) and the bar area isn't so bad. They have a pool table and pricey-ish drinks.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Andrew B.Detroit, MI1212810Jul 12, 2015Updated review
Stayed at the hotel a couple years ago, it's gone downhill. This restaurant is now a Noodle place. We tried to eat there on Friday and were surlishly greeting by the hostess. She asked how many for dinner and then gave us a price.
I was confused and asked how she knew the price before we even ordered. She said that there was only a buffet consisting of meat, chicken, potatoes and some other crappy American buffet fare. We walked out.
Tried again on Saturday and it was another American type buffet. Overly confusing are the ads for the place all over the hotel and noodle menus in the elevators.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jul 11, 2015Previous reviewWe are staying at the Park Inn (more on this building of woes in the review for it) and tried to have dinner. Hostess asked how many in our party and we said two. She then threw out some price of $25.96. I told her we haven't even ordered so how could she already know our price. She told us that there is only a dinner buffet and that it was not an Asian buffet nor was the regular menu available. We walked away.

Two stars at best.
It's hard to understand the four and five star reviews.
For starters, there wasn't a single Vietnamese person in the place. That clearly matters. Read the menu - it includes nachos, macaroni and cheese and Italian dishes. The next table over from me was eating french fries. Then, the realization hit me, I was eating in the hotel restaurant of a Radisson. Sheesh! Why did I fall for the four and five star reviews on Yelp? IDK
The interior and lackluster wait staff makes it clear that this is a 2nd rate hotel restaurant.
Noodle Bar and Grill make up for the lack of quality with quantity. Dishes, including appetizers, are ridiculously over-sized.
I had read such positive comments about the pho and spring rolls. I tried both. I suggest you not make the same mistake as me. Keep driving. Keep your standards and palate in shape.
Good luck!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - chris m.Erie, PA6335272Mar 9, 2015
Great new restaurant for Toledo
I've had fantastic Pho around the world and this was okay with fresh basil, sprouts, lime and red jalapeño. Like red because green gets lost in the soup.
The meat was correctly basic/off tough and the broth was interesting and slightly aromatic.
Maybe too many noodles but right proportion of broth. I don't like wooden sticks preferring plastic
Condiments were proper too. Hoisin. Fish sauce. Siracha.
Keep up the good work and improvements. The night before a friend had another dish she really liked.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 11139426Jul 3, 2015
For our Friday lunch, a co-worker and I wanted to try out Noodle Bar & Grill. Once we got past the somewhat confusing entrance and made our way up the stairs into the restaurant proper, a host promptly greeted us and asked if there was anywhere in particular we would like to sit. Quickly glancing across the cavernous restaurant, my friend and I picked a table by the windows, looking out over Monroe Street. When we asked our waiter a couple of questions about the Vietnamese items on the menu, he apologized profusely and in a very embarrassed voice, admitted that he does not eat South East Asian foods. However he quickly continued on, listing the restaurant's popular sellers, as well as which dishes the other staff members liked. I ordered the pho and a Pepsi, which came to a very reasonable $10.55. My soda came in a surprisingly small glass, however our waiter did an excellent job of bringing me many, many refills, typically just before I ran out!
The ambiance of the restaurant is what I would best characterize as "dated hotel chic, circa 1998," with generically inoffensive pictures and light fixtures, but nothing really to give it a Vietnamese or South East Asian flair. Our food arrived in short order, and speaking frankly, I was * stunned * by the portion size! Gluttony is my favourite sin and I really like to eat, but my bowl of pho was probably the largest bowl of soup I have ever seen! This thing was so large, it would have made a great meal for three people, or perhaps a noodly hottub for a very small person. Our waiter also gave me three condiments (sriracha, fish sauce, and hoisin), saying he was not sure, but most people who order the pho like them. Digging in to my mammoth sized bowl of soup, I enjoyed the good flavour of the broth as well as the excellent noodles and sprouts, but found the meat a bit tough and chewy. Much to the surprise of my lunch companion, it took me a while but I eventually finished off the entire titanic bowl of soup, and then staggered back to my office for a "I cannot believe I ate the whole thing" nap.
In the end, I found Noodle Bar & Grill's positives (good tasting food, huge portions, great price, earnest wait staff) to more than outweigh its negatives (bland décor, hapless wait staff). Overall I give the restaurant a Very Good rating and will definitely come back again!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Trayce S.Toledo, OH586Dec 5, 2015
This restaurant offers a unique Asian decor with interesting designs with the kitchen being placed in the front room with a habachi grill where cooking can be viewed.
The prices are exceptionally reasonable at only $25 for two meals with an appetizer for my spouse and myself.
The service however leaves something to be desired when ordering our drinks we waited an additional twenty minutes just to get them. Pur food was excellent although we saw two other tables order and receive their food before our order had been taken when my group was waiting on their checks asking several times for a box to take the leftovers home and being ignored by staff.
Management was reluctant to offer a refund or discount for their service only offering an apology and a coupon for a future visit. Needless to say if you'd like to experience a cheap americanized Asian restaurant with service being on lar with a fast food establishment id recommend this eatery to youHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Casey C.Toledo, OH013Jul 30, 2015
Been here 3 times. All 3 times and the food was fantastic. At first, upon entering it feels a little questionable. The odd diner style tables, overall décor and general ambience is very hodge-podge. But do not let the appearance fool you.
Upon sitting down we received our menus quickly and beverages shortly after and constant refills were done prior to being "empty".
The menu has some odd choices on it like Nachos and Cheese and Pizza which I assume are aimed to the ballpark / hotel guests that don't necessarily want Asian food and don't want to leave to go someplace else.
I usually stick to what I know and have not really tried anything too crazy yet and stuck to the "rice" options on the menu. Having both the General Tso's and Sweet And Sour Chicken I must say everything was cooked to order, hot, fresh, and delicious. A lot of times from Asian restaurant's in the area sauces and ingredients taste like they are canned or overly sweetened these were not (aside from the Pineapple on my first visit, but it did taste like they switched to fresh pineapple upon my third visit)
My only other recommendation is the staff all appear to just kind of be there hanging out and helping out where necessary. There isn't really anyone that appears to be in charge of the front of the house. Though our waitstaff was pleasant every time it did feel just a bit of a free for all.
Food is top notch, but service and overall general experience needs some work.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Bigsley D.Downtown Detroit, Detroit, MI2443Feb 7, 2015
Good to see an Asian restaurant in Downtown Toledo. Admittedly not the best Chinese food I've ever had, but it's at least serviceable. Location is convenient and the atmosphere is adequate, if not a bit bland.
Got the Kung Pao Chicken and it was below average. Sauce was a bit on the salty side. Ingredients seems to be of high quality, so there's potential here. Fried rice left a lot to be desired. For $20, there is better food out there.
My friend got the sweet and sour chicken, and it seemed true to form. Safe play, but nothing that exceeded expectations.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
