Sunday, is brunch day!!
It's no secret my friends and I love Brunch. When we travel, and we are spending Sunday morning where we're going, we always spend some time beforehand searching a good Brunch place.
You see, Sunday is usually our last day on vacation. We want it to end as well or better than it started. How other way to do this than with mimosas and good food.
Wake up late, leave suitcase at hotel and enjoy the last day.
Now, looking for brunch places in Austin wasn't easy. Our first requirement is bottomless mimosas. Apparently they don't do this here but, they do sell them cheap (like $3/ glass or $10/ carafe). Next is looking at the menu, something we all like. With the Yelp App, this search is easy. We found Little Barrel, and even though we got some other recommendations while in Austin, we stuck to our decision and so glad we did.
We walked in, a little before our reservation, and were seated right away. But first, our server and I talked hair, since we both have purple in it. Points for good taste! :p
After looking quickly at the menu, we knew we wanted mimosas but needed coffee first.
I ordered a latte. Not bad but tasted more like an instant café con leche. Not exactly what I was expecting but woke me up which is what I needed.
Cue the Mimosas. Our server immediately brought our carafe (we had a choice of orange or grapefruit). This is enough for about 5 - 6 glasses. Would have liked a little less juice more champagne...
While we waited for our food, one of my friends ordered a hash brown and I ordered toast.
Seems like the hash brown was amazing, in just a few bites it was gone and she kept saying how happy she was she decided to order it.
Toast order comes with two slices, with butter and they also have mini jam jars. I just love toast with butter and strawberry jam... but allow myself only to eat it when I travel.
No or dishes came out... BIG portions, and absolutely delicious.
I had the Duck Pastrami Hash. This came with generous amount of meat, sweet potato, and shredded Brussel Sprouts, and fried egg on top. The combination of all these flavors is amazing. Sweetness of the potato, saltiness of the meat, and a little tart from the gravy used on the Brussel sprouts is a party in your mouth.
A little before we finished our breakfast, we ordered a second carafe of mimosa. We sat there, planning the rest of our last day in Austin, without being rushed at any point, and so happy our last meal here was as excellent as the rest we had during our vacation.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Oct 2, 2016
My friend and I wanted to check this place out for dinner before heading to a later movie. We found this place and was able to score free parking behind the restaurant.
This place opens at 5 and we were let in. We found a table and about 5 mins later our server greeted us with menus and specials. Oddly enough we were only given one. Just seemed a little strange as I had to wait until my friend was done looking over the menu. Ladies and gentlemen she took forever to decide on what she wanted.
I ended up with a Stella (happy hour special) and a shrimp house salad. The house salad came with mixed greens, candies almonds, apples, grilled nopales, quest fresco and a honey calabrese vinaigrette. The shrimp was an extra charge and so not worth it. I got a measly 4 shrimp. The salad was tasty and would have been better if it was bigger. Especially based upon the price! My friend ordered a burger which looked extremely tasty. She said it was but greasy.
The server wasn't as attentive as I ran out of water and never was offered a refill. I would maybe come here again to order something different since the food was good and great locationHelpful 9Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - 208502915Dec 29, 2015
Every now and again, you want to step inside a restaurant off a busy street, and find yourself somewhere lovely, dark, romantic and that makes you feel like you're in a big city.
I never had heard of this little treasure. But I'm so glad it popped up in my Yelp feed.
The first night my partner and I went here, I ordered the vegetarian fried rice and he ordered an Alfredo pasta with chicken. Some added libation and we were submerged into a lovely little dinner. The flavor was lovely.
It makes me REALLY happy when there are vegan/vegetarian options on a menu that are flavorful. If they could populate their menu with something fully vegan and wonderful---I'll be in LOVE.
The next time my partner and I went out, it was Sunday morning and we were jonesing for some brunch.
My partner settled in the shrimp and grits which he loved and I---was SO delighted to order a tofu scramble which was curried and had beautiful touches of veggies. I asked them to nix the pita slices that came with it and sub in wheat toast. And I ordered a side of roasted potatoes. The potatoes were perfect! Sautéed with onions and flavorful, it was the perfect compliment to the tofu.
I was so surprised to find it a slow brunch morning and I was wondering why this place isn't more packed! But maybe it's to my benefit to have full access to such a treasure.
The service here is wonderful and everyone is so nice.
I think I've found a new favorite.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Oct 6, 2015
We came in here Sunday evening after a very long, eventful day. They have Happy Hour ALL DAY on Sunday. The restaurant was pretty empty so the 3 of us sat up at the bar to take advantage of the HH.
Everything was delicious. Why don't I come here more often? Owner was great to talk to as well. I'll be back!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Dallas W.Houston, TX46776195Sep 27, 2017
Cute spot on South Congress to grab brunch. Got the Angels Benedict and it was good but not the best Benedict I've ever had. They definitely don't gyp you on the meat, but the poached eggs could use some work.
Overall good food and atmosphere. Definitely a place to disconnect and enjoy the company of friends and familyHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I've had this place bookmarked for so long and I finally got to try it Sunday. I had a friend in town for the weekend and she wanted one more "Austin experience" before leaving and we thought dinner and a walk down South Congress would be a good bookend to our weekend. I usually avoid South Congress since it is so crowded and the parking can be a pain. But, Sunday night was pretty laid back and there's a small lot behind the restaurant that we were able to park in.
Ok so THE FOOD. So so good! I got the Hemingway Daiquiri and it was yummy, a perfect balance of sweet and tangy. As an appetizer we each got one of the duck sliders. An order is only one slider so keep that in mind! These were probably my favorite part of the meal. They were so delicious. The bun was soft and all of the flavors in the slider worked together perfectly. For our main dishes I got the fettuccine and my friend got the fried chicken. Both were large, generous portions and we both took home leftovers. The pasta was delicious! The noodles were thick and the sauce wasn't overly creamy. The fried chicken had a great flavor, it was moist inside and crisp on the outside. We were both too stuffed for dessert but the lavender infused creme brulee sounded very interesting, next time!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Luci H.Austin, TX17845603606Jan 24, 2017
I really enjoyed my time at Little Barrel and Brown. I'm a sucker for brunch, but this place really brought a bitchin' brunch - complete with bitchin' prices, bitchin' service, and bitchin' food.
We hadn't settled on a place to eat, but decided to try our luck on South Congress. Since we don't get out to the busy street often, we knew we could find something fresh and new. We landed at LB&B and I couldn't have been happier. Walking in, wasn't like a lot of the light and airy New American brunch spots. Even thought there were big windows, it felt darker and more comfortable.
We were seated immediately, since the only other people in the place were at the bar. (it was late in the brunch day). Our server was bubbly and attentive and we had our food about 10 minutes after arriving.
I ordered the Steak & Egg dish and my boyfriend chose the Chicken and Waffles. Both were incredible, but the clear winner were the potatoes that accompanied my steak. They were spicy and crunchy and soft and delicious and incredible and all the other appetizing adjectives. The steak was served medium rare, as I had ordered it and the eggs weren't greasy or overcooked. I couldn't have asked for more.
The last thing I'll note is that the mimosas, while affordable, aren't really worth the price/carafe. I'd stick to individual glasses, since the glasses they serve them in are large and there's little, if not no savings.
Overall a five-star experience for a brunch enthusiast.Helpful 14Thanks 0Love this 13Oh no 0 - Mar 26, 2015
So burgers are my favorite food. And I heard they had a great one here so I had to join in the next time my friends dined here for happy hour.
We started with the mussels for an appetizer - which I learned is something they often run out of since they are so popular. I was a little worried since I am allergic to oysters which were also on the menu but they said they're cooked separately so I decided to try them and they were very tasty. After a while I had a weird tightening sensation in my chest but it eventually went away by the end of the night. Not sure what caused it though. I may avoid the mussels next time to be on the safe side.
I ordered the burger which came with fries - a great deal for only $8 during happy hour. We also split a kale Caesar salad. The burger was amazing as well as the fries. It was so big and juicy with great flavor. The kale Caesar salad - also good.
I will definitely return to this great happy hour spot soon. Happy hour is 5-7 daily and all night on Sundays.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Robyn D.Charleston, SC4218174Nov 21, 2016
Truly one of the best brunches I've had in awhile. My boyfriend and I snagged a seat by the bar and ordered a Bloody Mary right away. We ordered the Sunrise Burrito and Omelette Special.
The Bloody Mary was made perfectly. I had to compliment the bartender on how good it was! It had the perfect amount of spice, liquor, and mix ratio. The Sunrise Burrito was to die for. My boyfriend and I were starving and it hit the spot! It's a large burrito that will, not only fill you up, but leave you wanting more. Filled with eggs, peppers, onions, cheese, bacon, and loads more. It's flavorful and the ranchero sauce is amazing. The Omelette Special was also great. I liked that it was healthy, but stuffed with lots of fixins!
I would most definitely come back here if I'm ever back in Austin. It's right on South Congress, and it's packed for a reason here! Portion size, flavors and service were exemplary.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - 83305844Jan 28, 2017
I love this place. I called about two weeks ahead for a reservation for brunch for a friends birthday. There were 13 of us. They were able to accommodate us in the back part of the restaurant. Everyone from the hostess to the servers were so friendly. The menu has a good blend of sweet and savory comfort foods and some healthier choices as well. The Bloody Mary's are a must. Eat and drink won't cost you an arm and a leg and you'll leave satisfied. I would definitely recommend this place for brunch and want to go back to try their dinner menu.
