This old school beef joint in the middle of Pilsen is a hidden gem. This is my go to breakfast joint when I'm in a hurry, no frills, in out spot.

Classic, Chicago-style favorites served up in the same vintage themed diner. Gus & Maria own & operate this neighborhood favorite. Gus often greets many of us by name. I've eaten here over a dozen times and have yet to find a flaw in his menu lineup. Most times I order the Gyro meal. I love how the pitas are heated all the way through on the grill with a delicate crunch. Fran's Beef serves up Crinkle-Cut fries, my favorite cut of fried-potatoes since childhood. Many cheers to Gus & Maria personally and Fran's Beef professionally!

This place has the best breakfast sandwich and coffee is just delicious. I always get the sandwich with cheese, sausage and giardiniera. We have been coming here for years and love it!

Fran's is a hidden gem. I, too, would have passed it by if it wasn't next to where I work. I have come to love it more and more as the time passes.
Hot dog and fries= $1.97. Just got this again today and I feel guilty on a nutritional level, but I'll get over it.
You don't come to Fran's for atmosphere. It's ugly and small, but oh well! You come here for cheap, greasy food (of which they have an eerily huge variety for a hot dog stand) and to watch trashy daytime TV while you eat.
Everyone comes together at Fran's- Its run by a Polish guy in a Mexican neighborhood, and I have seen everyone from college girls to construction workers to the food service workers from the school next door (when they're sick of the food they serve) come here to eat.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Will R.Chicago, IL251Oct 2, 2011Updated review
Still happy that Fran's Beef is around. They have recently updated the exterior and interior and continue to serve great American fare.
Recently I've branched out into trying some of their breakfast items and found the gyro omlets awesome. I love this place!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0May 24, 2008Previous reviewIn a neighborhood over packed with cheap taco joints, Fran's is a nice non-Mexican alternative when you're looking for a burger and some fries or Chicago classics like an Italian Beef or a Polish sausage.
The building isn't very inviting either inside or out, but what it lacks in aesthetics this greasy spoon makes up for with cheap, good fast food, and friendly service. Every time I've gone the owners were always happy to see a new face, and often can be observed joking with the regulars.
It's an order at the counter type place, with booth seating for maybe 20 people. Prices are very cheap - an Italian Beef is $3.85, Hamburgers start at $2.45 and go up to $3.65 for a double cheeseburger. Specials include a drink and fires. $4.00 for a cheeseburger, $4.55 for a Polish. The most expensive thing on the menu are the Philly Steak, and Rib Eye Steak sandwich specials, each which are $6.45.
Service is fast.
Hours are Monday - Friday, 5am to 4pm, and Saturday 6am to 2pm. Closed Sundays.

MMMMMMM.... delicious.
I work right across the street, so it's a great place to grab lunch when you haven't brought anything from home.
Friendly staff, a few tables - an overall hole in the wall hotdog/Italian beef place. The food is uber cheap (about $3.50 for a hot dog, fries and a pop) and it's a fun place to go when you're in a hurry.
My kind of place, for sure.
Update of sorts: $2.76 for a large french fries and a large pop!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Andres D.Woodridge, IL7233203522Apr 26, 2010
This is the cooleset little ma' and pop shop ever! The prices are superb even if you are on a budget you will probably walk away with change. The owners are always working so you know the food is in top quality. The all day breakfast dishes are a plus. This place opens at 5AM daily, 6AM Saturday and closed on Sundays. Try their breakfast plate of 2 eggs, Bacon, Sausage Patties or Ham and comes with hashbrowns and toast for $3.75

Fran's Beef is like that girl you met before....not so pretty on the outside, but just a few moments with her realize how wonderful she is. You will fall in love with the tastes and the inexpensive tabs. Go here!

The sausage, egg & cheese or the cheeseburger with gyros meat on it are the two best possibilities on the menu. Wouldn't recommend the pizza, fried items or breakfast aside from the breakfast sandwiches.

Although it looks rough, this is great fast food. From the breakfast to the beefs and burgers this place is fantastic. Prices are beyond reasonable. Pick up a sack of food and a 6pack and settle down by the river!
