Mr Submarine

Welcome Mr Submarine! Finally I don't have to be south of I-55 or far east to enjoy my favorite submarine spot. As most of us local residents passed by for years the empty property that once housed KFC. I am sure I share the same sentiments that we are happy to have Mr Sub join the neighborhood.

I have always considered Ogden Avenue having big shoulders with the amount of businesses on the strip. There are plenty of options for dining that's for sure. However this particular location not only offers the traditional subs, rather options like gyros, phillys, chicken dinners, shakes and more.

I was completely satisified with my steakburger sub king size. It was a big sandwich and I for sure stepped up to the challenge. I am not so much a drive-thru consumer so sorry, can't comment on that aspect here since I dined in.

See ya next time for the Grilled Chicken Plate!

Okay, Holli's Cupcake Creations...you had me at Oreos. Seriously delicious and plus a hidden oreo cookie surprise at the bottom. Never knew cupcakes could be so much fun. Although it was my birthday party, it appeared the desserts stole the show.

Such a small place with a HUGE taste. The snickers sundae was plenty good. Perhaps the owners were working today because they appeared to have that vibe. This is a simple review of my appreciation for a small business slanging delicious desserts. Way to go Jack Frost you won me over!

I usually stop in only on Sundays about twice a month. There is a rather extensive buffet hour from 11AM-7PM on sundays when most places only have buffets Monday through Friday. Its a quick and simple solution for my family to get together for brunch  I am rather picky about buffets however their menudo is delicious. Their barbacoa is fresh pulls apart bursting with flavor. Love their mexican rice however I will pass on the refired beans, my mama makes it better.

I love the fact the buffet spread was consistently warm. The staff was on top of replenishing items that went.

As mention earlier its a quick fix for sunday brunch.

What better way to celebrate my mother 61st birthday then with some homemade Italian food.

To our server Loree with two e's......"You had me at pasta fagioli" and then you sealed the deal with the Allagash White as beverage of choice. I am still all smiles this morning from last evening's dinner.

I ordered the incredible Filet of Salmon sauteed in a lemon butter cream sauce. You know this entree was superb because this fish swam in from the North Atlantic. I mean seriously the cream sauce alone is worth bottling and selling like hot sauce on the shelf.

For starters the Anthony's Grilled Calamari in homemade marinara sauce was like bringing home the gold in the Olympics. Squeeze a little lemon and chew...yum!
Was it a bad thing to keep dipping the complimentary Italian bread in the marinara sauce? Well too bad, it was magnificent!

Our server was great and knowledgeable of the menu. I love how the Clara's Pasta crew hustles and really makes the dining experience memorable. That is good repeat business when someone like me notices. I am a foodie and you all made an impression.

I was rather impressed with this new fast casual restaurant that open in Dolton. In a area filled with plenty of food options, Jimmy's spear heads an original flavor.

Armed with fresh sliced gyros and fresh sliced phillys not to mention fresh cut fries. Oh man it just doesn't get any better. But wait there is more...HANDMADE BURGERS too!

If you are anything like me, I have a bit of a sweet tooth and the soft serve ice cream hits the spot. The menu is straight and to the point including boneless wings. salads and fried fish. Jimmy's sure hits all the tastebuds.

Plenty of seating and parking available not to worry.

Mickey's Gyros

Finally someone took over the old Arby's. I am assuming Mickey's has only been open less than a month. The staff was friendly and the cashier knew her menu very well. So that being said I placed an order for a Poorboy sandwich, soup of the day and a large Dr Pepper.

I love how Mickey's has food runners that bring everything to your table. I would have loved to have my delicious cream of chicken with rice soup prior to my sandwich. Perhaps that was something I should have mentioned beforehand to the cashier. No big deal.

Dining area has plenty of clean tables and great for family's of 5 or so. I was surprise to see that the building did not have a Mickey's Gyros neon sign on the front. During rush hour traffic stopped on route 53 would probably prove affective and in their favor.

I do plan on a second visit for their BBQ side of the menu, for now 3 stars if what was earned. I do suggest this place to meat and cheese lovers whom enjoy Chicago style sandwiches. Oh and before I forget I notice 3 gyros cone spinning in the background, most likely 30 or 40 lbs each. Now that some serious product.

See you all next time ;)

What do to when you are staying at a stylish room just 5 floors up? Well a quick elevator down of course and TADA....a kitchen at your service.

My friendly server Ellen ran through the specials of the day which all sounded delicious. However the grilled coho salmon w/ roasted veggies caught my eye. My salmon did sport a charred frisee mohawk which earned stylish points in my book. The potato leek soup was just what I need as a starter with a butter coated warm bread side so soft I ate all three.

Given the prior festivites of St Patty's I was NOT in the mood for beer. A simple refreshing lemonade made my evening a perfect one.

I did notice other reviewers mentioning the booths being uncomfortable. Perhaps the establishment changed them because my booth was great.

Service was outstanding, worth every penny.

Booked directly via Hotel Monaco's website which was fast and easy. Pulled up to valet about 10AM on St. Patrick's day morning. I already knew check in was not until 3pm however the lovely guest service gal Shannon took my luggage and ask I call later in the afternoon for possible openings.

I continued my St Patty's festivities throughout the day and  about 1:45pm my room was ready. Although I was dressed in a ridiculous green hat, shirt and beads, the staff treated me with kindness and respect.

Upon entering my room I immediately was taken back by the style. Everything from the color scheme, blue couch, office furniture and 1 amazing gold fish. Yes I said it, I got my own personal goldfish for the day. I love their window seats in both the office and bedroom, felt more like a window love seat..hubba hubba. Oh and almost forget the relaxing hot tub with jets...my fav!

I am officially a dedicated Kimpton fan and would recommend any of their properties for overnight visits. Show owner comment »
