With achy feet, I schlep my body after hours of shopping nearby to this Cosi.
Two Crumb Cakes at $3.98 each was Meh dry and Celestial green tea at $1.99 was okay. While my party of two's hot chocolate was very heavy and rich with heavy cream for milk all totaling $10.00. The hot chocolate is Hershey's syrup. Cosi has the foresight beyond my budget for average food. It is not my bag for an afternoon tea. Service is robotic and rather inattentive as the server did not obliged to submit a sales receipt as I requested.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Minhan S.Queens, NY90362537Apr 30, 2010
A nice quick lunch take-out sandwich bar near Bryant park.
It was crowded during lunch time, and this place was long and narrow. Cash registers are located at very weird places: one very closed to the entrance, and one all the way inside the place.
I had Smoky BBQ Chicken pizza, and it was just ok; I have to say that the BBQ sauce killed the taste of pizza. But it was a nice touch that they cut the pizza smaller so that I could eat it easily.(but still I had the problem because of my tiny mouth.. *sigh*) Sweetened iced tea was actually not sweet. weird.. but it should be healthier, right? lol
I would visit again if I have no choice. so I give 3 stars. :)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Erica L.New York, NY1971851077Sep 30, 2012Updated review
I hate to say "I told you so," but did I or did I not foresee that this location of Cosi was doomed if they didn't get their act together? Sure enough, they have closed their doors for business. http://midtownlunch.com/2012/09/27/cosi-on-42nd-is-closed/
So long. Farewell. Auf wiedersehen. Adieu.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Apr 14, 2012Previous reviewI am familiar with Cosi and have frequented it many a time back home in New Jersey, but this location needs to do some massive work to improve.
I came here the other day with some co-workers on a gorgeous day that 'wichcraft was offering free ice cream. Of course, 'wichcraft had lines about 2 blocks long, and there was no way I was going to be able to get that in my 1-hour window of a lunch break. Since I had my heart set on a cold, sweet treat, I wanted to find a place closeby that I could get something with oreos. I'm a sucker for anything oreo, and I love oreo shakes. I knew that Cosi had an oreo mocha shake, and how convenient it was that it was right across the street from Bryant Park.
I step up to the counter/barista and ask for a "Double Oh! Arctic Mocha," which is supposed to be an ice cold mocha blended with oreo cookies and topped with a giant oreo cookie. The barista looks at me weird as if I had just said something in a different language. I repeat myself and point to where it is on the menu. He responds by saying that that is the only thing he doesn't know how to make and proceeds to pull out a manual with instructions on how to make the few beverages they have on their menu.
He pours a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and hands me a cup. I look at the cup and can see three distinct levels of different liquids, all separated. I've had this "Double Oh! Arctic Mocha" before, so I know what it should look like, and what he handed to me was not even close. I ask him, "Aren't there supposed to be oreos in this?" He replies, "Oh, I don't think we even have those." It's a major component of the drink, so I'm positive that it was in the instructions on how to make it. If you didn't have it, you should have known when you were reading it and told me earlier.
He then goes to his manager who takes over and makes the correct drink for me. The original barista wasn't even watching the manager make it, so I'm pretty sure he still has no idea how to make it and will be screwed if anyone ever orders that from him again.
Cosi's drink menu really isn't that big. That barista better hit the books and start learning otherwise future Cosi customers of the Bryant Park are doomed! - Jena P.Manhattan, NY17123446Sep 25, 2009
I loooooooooove Cosi's flat bread its so good. I enjoyed my Cosi Club Sandwich and my friends pizza was pretty good, it had just right amount of sauce and mozzarella. I was hating on my friend who had the raspberry lemonade because its much better than the plain regular one. I will definitely have the raspberry next time. But when we were almost done we noticed something strange. We laughed after we wiped our WTF expressions off our faces but umm why the fuck is there a BRA on the floor next to our table??? who the hell leaves their bra behind?? I don't know if this was a joke or if someone dragged their bra on their purse when they left home but that was just weird.
Oh and because we are immature we waited until some guy sat down at the empty table next to us and made his WTF face.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Allison G.Brooklyn, NY26436120Nov 21, 2006First to Review
I came to this midtown Manhattan Cosi location (across the street from the New York Public Library and Bryant Park) today. It was the height of lunch hour, and when I went in, it seemed to be very crowded. The line looked super long. However, what appeared to be one giant line was actually divided into two very organized lines -- one for salads and one for all other foods. The salad bar staff members directly helped the customers ordering salads. A waiter took orders from the people standing in the other line for sandwiches and hot food.
This Cosi, due to its location, I suppose, runs like a well-oiled machine. It's extremely fast and efficient! I was truly impressed with the speedy service. Additionally, there was a decent amount of seating available!
I got the Cosi Signature Salad, which is lettuce with nuts, pears, dried cranberries, cheese, and grapes. It is really delish, and it comes with Cosi's yummy bread -- hot and right out of the oven! (Bonus: bread samples were available to try while you were standing on line.) I got this salad plus a bottled water and it was $10.50 -- which is a little pricey, but it was Midtown, and it was a pretty giant salad. Cosi has a lot of locations, and is speedy enough to be a good, healthier alternative to traditional "fast food."Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Matt K.Dobbs Ferry, NY2715988Jun 10, 2012
This 42nd str Cosi is always extremely crowded yet even so, still serves as a good, dependable place to grab a quick light sandwich or salad. The line moves quickly enough to not get frustrated at the fact that there is very little room to stand and wait for the food to be prepared. There are a few tables in the back to sit and eat if you choose.
I've personally only eaten salads here and so far so good. They're light and low calorie yet still interesting to eat. 3.75 stars on the food.
The BREAD is cooked in flatbread style and each salad gets a nice 230 calorie piece of whole wheat bread or white flatbread. I've only tasted the whole wheat flatbread and I am definitely a fan. It is constantly being baked fresh throughout the day so it's always fresh and never stale.
It's pretty funny yet somewhat annoying to watch the employees yell back and forth to each other and to the customers about the food orders and statuses - sometimes it makes me not want to go here. But it's convenient, quick and feels relatively healthy.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jeff M.Manhattan, NY10331436Apr 16, 2012
I go to this Cosi at least once a week for lunch. And every time I go to this Cosi, I need a stiff drink afterwards.
Chipotle (next door and, granted, a much bigger space) must handle at least twice the number of people that Cosi does, with about an 1/8th the amount of stress,
As far as I can tell, Cosi's order tracking system consists of employees yelling sandwich names across the restaurant at each other. Once you order there is no good place to stand to wait for your order. People are bumping into each other all over the place and the place is, in general, "stressed out."
I have never managed a restaurant, but I have heard about this invention called numbers. And these numbers, you see, are all different from one another. One could fathom a system whereby order slips have numbers on the top and the bottom. Order slip is torn in half, line cook gets one half, customer gets the other half. Voila. "Order #X is ready!" instead of "TBM LITE!?! TBM LITE?!? TBM LITE!!!!!"Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Michelle A.Brooklyn, NY261791Oct 14, 2009
For a sit-down meal at lunch, Cosi has always served me well, however, today I stopped in for a breakfast sandwich and a bite to eat later. Now, I admit that I am a bit picky in my breakfast choices, but I just don't eat eggs. Unfortunately, my non-egg eating meant that I could either have oatmeal or a bagel with cream cheese (no flavor options, thank-you-very-much). My bagel was adequate, but no better than the street vendor at twice the price.
As to a lunch munchie, no dice. All salads and sandwiches are full size, which has served me well in the past, but left a gap in today's quest.
Friendly service will make me return for a full-out meal, but I will save my snack-size bites for other area venues.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Monica R.Brooklyn, NY12622336Aug 21, 2008
I second Diana N's entire review.
This was my first lunch outing in the city since I moved out here like a week ago and man was it intense. I was meeting a friend who works in midtown on a Tuesday, so naturally we had to battle it out with the heinous lunchtime foot traffic and congestion.
The bread is delicious, I'm not gonna lie. But the sandwich wasn't really worth the 8 bucks or so that I paid. It was just some turkey and some brie slapped on the delectable bread.
I pride myself on my own personal sandwich making skills, so this was kind of a let down. I can just buy some brie, turkey and tasty bread from Trader Joes and make 12 sandwiches for the price I paid for one at Cosis.
Maybe I'll try a salad next time?......Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1641631458Aug 9, 2012
Pretty quick, but I didn't think it was that much better than any of the local delis around the city.
