The interior of this place is cute and there is free WiFi. The staff members were very friendly and helpful, describing all of the gooey butter cake options so that we could make an informed decision. I know if I was a local, this would be my hangout for having a coffee and a snack, and getting some work done! :)

I had a "snack" at St. Louis Bread Co. when I came. I got a CHOCOLATE CHIP BAGEL with cream cheese. It was every bit as delicious as you'd think it would be! Oh my goodness. Why aren't there more chocolate chip bagels to be found in the world? It doesn't make any sense since it was such a yummy combination! :)

Lambert-St. Louis International Airport
Category: Airports
Departing from STL, there was a cancellation in my flight. The staff at Lambert-STL was very helpful in getting me a new flight on the same day. During a time that could have been tense and unpleasant, the staff was suer friendly and helpful.
During the security checkpoint, I accidentally did not have my "approved liquids or gels" in a Ziploc bag, but the man who searched my bag was so friendly and nice! I did not get "in trouble," he just gave me a Ziploc for the next time! What a nice man!
The gate areas have food and shops and nice, clean bathrooms. I was also able to find an outlet rather easily, so I could plug in my electronic devices. :)
Overall a very friendly airport!

Blueberry Hill Restaurant & Bar

A seriously remarkable cheeseburger! It was on a light, fluffy bun. Soooo good!! I also had my first toasted ravioli here (YUMMMMM!).
Love the kitschy decor and memorabilia! There are random elk, deer, hippopotamus, etc. heads mounted on the wall, plus record albums. There are awesome jukeboxes, and a "wall of fame" area where you can see different pictures to visitors of Blueberry Hill!
The PHOTO BOOTH produced probably the HIGHEST-QUALITY photo booth picture I ever got. (And I go into photo booths whenever there is one available!) For $3, you can get a strip of 4 photos -- they print out FAST, too!
The server was friendly and excellent. I hope I get the chance to come again and see Blueberry Hill's downstairs music venue. (I really want to check out the Elvis Room.) Hopefully I'll come back to St. Louis soon!

Gateway Arch

Can I just tell you how much I love the Arch? It is such an awesome icon of the city. I love the various views you get of it as you travel around, and it is really something to see the ways it looks during different times of the day and during different weather conditions. (Sometimes parts of it vanish into the darkness, or into the fog.)
I loved my trip to the top of the Arch. The "pod capsules" that you ride in ARE small, so if you are claustrophobic, it might be a problem. I was not bothered; overall, I was simply amazed by the architecture and technology that made it all possible.
Truly a unique destination, the Arch (which is the "Gateway to the West") is quickly becoming my favorite monument of all time!
Thank you to the city of St. Louis for reminding me what it feels like to be a tourist again (sometimes we New Yawkers forget). I love you, Gateway Arch. I'll be back to see you again soon before long! :)
I have been to Poole's when there was a line out the door, and I've been there during the cold wintery off-season, when I was the only customer. Both times I've had friendly and excellent service.
This is exactly the kind of pork BBQ I like best: flavorful, smoky, not-too-saucy, NO SLIMY WEIRD BITS OF FAT -- just tender and stringy meat on a bun with just-enough-sauce. The sweet tea is self serve so you can keep getting refills. I had the chocolate cake for dessert after an adorable little old woman told me she had just made it from scratch. Let me just tell you -- HAVE THE CAKE. The unassuming little square of cake didn't look fancy, but it is INCREDIBLE.
Viva Colonel Poole's!

Yogurtland
Category: Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt
Neighborhood: West Village
The trouble with Yogurtland is the fact that they provide an enormous cup, and your eyes will DEFINITELY be bigger than your stomach as you choose yogurt flavors and toppings. You will want to try everything. For the best flavor, though, limit yourself!! Too many flavors make it difficult to really distinguish what you're eating!
Your frozen treat is priced reasonably by its weight.
I highly recommend the chocolate flavor, which is very rich! YUM! My favorite toppings are the fresh fruits, the cake bits (or cheesecake bits!), the cookie dough bits, and the MOCHI! They even have syrups!
Think of it as a healthier, do-it-yourself version of Cold Stone.

Yogo Monster
Category: Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt
Neighborhood: Park Slope
Yogo Monster is similar to Pinkberry or Oko, in that the yogurt is "yogurty" -- not trying to be an imitation of ice cream. It is really fresh-tasting and tangy. They seem to have a revolving bunch of flavors: original, blueberry, strawberry, mango, and green apple are the flavors I've seen so far (they have four flavors at a time, with original being the standard staple). You can have two flavors mixed together. :)
The "small" is about the size of Oko's "medium" cup. For $1 you get up to four toppings. The toppings include various fresh fruit, nuts, dry cereal, granola, M&Ms, gummi bears, any my FAVORITE TOPPING OF ALL: soft, chewy Rice Cakes!
Honestly, at Oko I prefer the actual yogurt, and their kindness to the environment. At Yogo Monster, I prefer their larger portions and their Rice Cake topping. Also, Oko has sauces (strawberry, chocolate, etc., while Yogo Monster does not seem to have any sauces. There is a place for both in the neighborhood!
Tip: Be sure to get a frequent buyer's card and present it each time you go here... if you get 7 yogurts, your next one is FREE!

The prices are great, and you'll find lots of the kinds of things you MUST have but DIDN'T KNOW YOU NEEDED! :)
Great for Christmas shopping, too, if you're on a budget but like to give unique gifts.

Date

The staff was very nice and helpful! 24-hour coffee was available at the lounge.
The rooms have a small refrigerator and a microwave -- very nice to have those amenities. It was very clean, and the beds were comfy. Great shower. Parking close to the rooms.
