Big Nose Full Body

Big Nose Full Body is the only place I shop for wines! The staff is so helpful and knowledgeable. There is a wonderful selection of really inexpensive wines that are better and more interesting than the standard cheap wines you're used to. To help you, the staff have written really accessible descriptions of each wine that make sense even if you're not a wine connoisseur.

You're sure to find a new favorite. For me, it's the Evodia -- gotta have a bottle in the house at all times! For $11, wouldn't you?

Classy Nails

Neighborhood: Park Slope

I'm a regular at Classy Nails. The mani/pedi is $23 which is a great deal! I love all of the manicurists. Ask for Lucy if you want some hand painted nail art; she does a great job! The owner, Lee, is a wonderful person who is welcoming to regular customers and new customers alike! Many times when I am just passing by the salon between visits, she greets me or waves!

I've been going here for years now. I used to try going to Seven Nails, but it was SO overcrowded and ALWAYS had a wait. Classy sometimes has a wait, but the ladies will tell you how long it is going to be in an honest manner (they will tell you to come back in 30 minutes, instead of saying it'll be just 5 minutes).

Due to the great service and clean atmosphere, I started getting silk wraps here (my first time with them), and they are just great! Lee takes her time with them, and they are lasting a long time without chipping or breaking.

There is a great little free "membership card" that rewards you for being a repeat customer. I use it all the time, accrue points, and use them for $5 and $10 off my next service.

One service I have not gotten is the 10-minute chair massage, but it is SUPER popular. Also several friends of mine come here for waxing and have had a positive experience with that as well.

I love you, Classy Nails!!

I have come to Ms. Dahlia's a few times and I keep plotting my next visit and my next! It is a cute spot to grab a hot beverage and a bite to eat. I have not been disappointed with the baked goods. They are moist and delicious! Love the "parfait"-style red velvet cake that comes in a cup. Also, the "green velvet" cupcake was LEGENDARY!!! Sooo yummy. The hot chocolate is delish, as was the hot cider. I recommend it if you are in the neighborhood!

New World Aquarium

I love this place because they always have the kind of fish that I am looking for. I got my dwarf puffer from here a few years back. My baby angelfish, Triangle, also hails from New World Aquarium. He is healthy, growing steadily, and doing great! They have a great selection of live and frozen foods and live plants. It's a step up from what you can find at larger commercial pet stores like Petco. The staff is helpful if you ask for help, but they will not go out of their way to see if you need help. I find whenever I go there, I have to track down an employee and ask for help. For me this is not necessarily a big negative -- it can be annoying to be asked 100 times if I need help when I am just looking.

Aly W. and I frequent this Starbucks, and I love how large and spacious it is! A great spot for the laptop crowd to enjoy arctic A/C and free WiFi. There are many outlets for your various electronics, and the baristas are very friendly and nice! Hooray!

La Taqueria - CLOSED

I really like La Taqeria. Overall, I think the drinks are great anc value-priced! The bartenders are AWESOME (shout-out to my gal Megan!!!). It's one of the few places where I prefer to stick with the barside experience and eat my meal there instead of at the table. There the service is attentive and great. Sometimes I've found the table service to be a little spotty (servers might forget about you or rush you a little once you've finished eating). However, the fun and relaxed bar experience is where it's at!

The food is very good. Love the fish tacos and the cheese enchiladas!!!! My drink recommendation is the guava frozen margarita. :)

The Pulp & The Bean

This place makes me SO happy! It was VERY necessary to have a coffee shop like this in the neighborhood. Super-close proximity to the 2/3/4/5 Franklin Avenue stop makes for the perfect location.

The coffee is awesome, and there are lots of varieties. I usually keep it simple, ordering a regular coffee - however, whenever I've gotten a "fancy" coffee drink, it's been awesome. The prices are MUCH more reasonable than a comparable drink would have been at Starbucks.

Additionally there are great bagels and a variety of fancy cream cheeses to choose from. I am obsessed with having a whole wheat bagel with strawberry cream cheese now. I noticed a "La Bagel Delight" truck making a delivery. Love those bagels, and I am so glad I can get them near my place. Day old bagels are sometimes offered for half-price. Other pastries are also super-yummy, including the muffins and the danishes.

The staff is SO friendly and nice. The people there actually take the time to greet you in a genuine way, not in the I'm-just-talking-to-you-because-it's-my-job way. They talk to you and smile. That kind of service can't be overlooked these days! The service is also swift, so I don't feel bad making a stop at the Pulp & the Bean even when I am in a rush to get to the train.

There is a membership card you can get for free. Be sure to get one, because I know you'll be coming back!!!!

Café Regular

Neighborhood: Park Slope

I love Cafe Regular! Delish coffee drinks and friendly staff make this tiny place shine. I often take my laptop and work here with my buddy Aly. While there is no WiFi, we usually have no problem picking up a signal from elsewhere.

The crown jewel for me is sitting in one of the two window seats! Makes me feel very quaint and relaxed.

The only downside to Cafe Regular is the fact that it really does fill up, and it is such a small space. I can't always be guaranteed a seat.

At the end of the day, as we neared closing time, the staff offered us free pastries because they do not sell the day-old ones the next day, and they would have been thrown out. It was a sweet thing to do, and lets us know the pastries (which are delish!) are always gonna be freshly-baked.

I stayed here at the Mariner's for one night and it was very pleasant. Great location and view, nice swimming pool (one indoor, one outdoor, and a hot tub). While we were there, the regular pool was being serviced.

The staff was very nice and helpful! 24-hour coffee was available at the lounge.

The rooms have a small refrigerator and a microwave -- very nice to have those amenities. It was very clean, and the beds were comfy. Great shower. Parking close to the rooms.

I had a delicious vanilla latte here, and a "cookie dough" flavored gooey butter cake. I absolutely loved it, and I was hoping to get back here for one more visit before I left St. Louis. Unfortunately, a second visit was not in the cards. However, I am HAPPY to hear that gooey butter cake can be ordered online and SHIPPED!

The interior of this place is cute and there is free WiFi. The staff members were very friendly and helpful, describing all of the gooey butter cake options so that we could make an informed decision. I know if I was a local, this would be my hangout for having a coffee and a snack, and getting some work done! :)
