The trick to get a better meal here is to order something that they have to cook fresh in the back kitchen, rather than selecting the glop from the steam table. Your custom order will take all of 6 minutes.
This is a family owned Panda Express clone. No better, no worse. It's in a lame surburban shoppng mall for cryin' out loud.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Alexis R.Santa Ana, CA606715Nov 23, 2011
In one sentence: 9 dollars for small portions of mediocre tasting chinese food.
I've eaten at Combo King since I was in middle school and I remember loving it back then. Going to see a movie at northgate and eating some chinese food.
Over the years it has gotten more expensive but was still worth it. NOW, however it has finally reached the 1 star status. They give you small portions, everything they give you is measured and they will even take food off your plate if they see they gave you too much.
All this would be ok IF the food was at least great or superior, but it isn't. It just plain isn't.
So it's over Combo King, our long time relationship and feeding me during the time I actually worked at Northgate.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Prasanna B.Wallington, London, United Kingdom2815552Mar 13, 2011

So, Chinese at the mall pre movie day. I was all in for some Mongolian Chicken, fried Rice and Broccholi Beef. I was going ot oreder me up some Kung Pao in the combo meal, but since the server did not know the difference, I decided, I'd try something new. It was good, actually the best part of the meal.
So sage advice for you youngin's working your way to the top. Know your food. If you do not know what it is, how you can up sell or help your consumer? Ask your cooks, review your menu and spec sheets. SMILE! you will make better tips. SMILE, your first job leads to your second job...
The more I review places, the more I see how many restaurant owners are lacking in basic customer service skills. Be a servant to your staff and teach them above the basics. Your bsuienss will benefit. Every is more useful when they are cross trained.. Just a word to the wise as this was the most outstanding thing I saw today..Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lisa M.Larkspur, CA225123Dec 12, 2009
Checked out the remodeled Northgate Mall before going to the movie theater there. Was quite hungry and needed something to eat before sitting 2.5 hours in the movie. Combo King caught my attention in the brand-new Food Court. After getting over flashbacks of my mall food court days (circa 1983ish), I ordered the WonTon soup. It was very tasty, full of fresh vegetables, wontons, chicken and shrimp. Quite reasonable for a large portion. The large TV screen menus are pretty cool. Worth a stop you are hungry and at the mall......

I've been going to combo king for about 4 yrs now. I love their fried chicken i can't get enough. But it seems as if since they moved to the new location in the mall the food has been lacking something. I don't know what it is but, whatever I'm still going for their chicken wings no matter what

I haven't eating here in years. Today I had to do some shopping and I ordered the chow mein, steam rice and Mongolian beef. Noodles tasted old. Rice was ok and the Mongolian beef had a HAIR!! Gross !!
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 31, 2011Previous reviewI have been having Combo King for years. I don't come here often however, I only eat here is when I crave it. (Or it must be the MSG that was kicking in). They are $$$. For a fried rice and string beans with shrimp and a snapple it was $11.59 The fried rice was about 2 stars and the string beans and shrimp were gross!!! The string beans were old and I went to complain and the lady that is always there says she can't give refunds only exchange for the same item. Why give an exchange for the same nasty item?!
At a restaurant in Novato called Min Yen, during lunch hours they serve you tea, water, soup of the day and your main dish with a slice of orange and an eggroll or fried won tons and for two people they charge no more than $15-$20 - Hector C.Novato, CA1181Aug 11, 2014
Definitely not a 5 star place but I've been going here since before they renovated the northgate mall and was a wee kid. Price has gone up since then but hey..it's business and not too unreasonable. portions are fair and if you get the 3 choice plate you are Gooood, more than enough. Every time I come here they're friendly and at times when I barely get there before closing time And they're missing an item I want they offer to cook it for me than have me leave or offer me more of what I want. So for mall food it's pretty good :) One of the few things I don't like is that there's no chicken in the hot and sour soup like some places have. Happy eating (=
