I've been here several times for business dinners, and it's been hit-or-miss. There are nights when the place was packed, and other times when we were the only table most of the evenings. Most dishes are good, except that they don't seem to know how to do steak. Usually it's overcooked - medium becomes well-done and tough.
Service is spotty and sometimes rushed, as if some of the waitresses can't wait for us to leave even on slow nights. Unfortunately this place looks better than it's turned out to be for me.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Isabelle K.Austin, TX214606691Mar 24, 2008
Two pros: Food quality and sunlight roof which made room very bright. I ordered Rock of lamb. Very tasty.
Two cons: I ordered lamb for lunch which costs $23. After tip, it's close to $30. So I can't afford a soup after. Made my dinner budget is very tight. There was a fly bugging me whole time.
Also from my AAA book, they gave discount to AAA member. But the waiter told me they have changed manager, so they don't give AAA discount anymore. But they still have an "AAA approved ..." recognition on the wall.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jun 23, 2009
Went here with business associates a few times in the past. It was OK, but not worth the price unless somebody else was paying for it.
Because of that and the drop off in tech business over the last decade, this place died and was replaced by an Indian buffet restaurant.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Andrew N.San Francisco, CA6515431May 7, 2006First to Review
I went to Arhur's because I got a Restaurant.com certificate for cheap. It was a large old-school white-table-cloth restaurant. The service was excellent, we had a lot of privacy as we went there on a weekday and there were very few people in the main dining room. I think there was a wedding or a party in the banquet room but we couldn't hear the noise from it at all, just saw people walking in and out of it. I remember the food was excellent too, a bit pricey but it was a great deal with the Restaurant.com certificate...
This is definitely not a "trendy" joint, so if you want to "be seen" or whatever, this is not the place. But if you want great food, great service, lots of privacy and comfortable seating, I would def recommend giving Arthur's a try.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lily N.San Jose, CA1218565May 8, 2008
I was taken here the other night. We were looking for a steak place and the guy i went with swore a steak house was in the area so we just guessed Arthur's was the place. But we were wrong, it was actually Birks :(
Well anyways, we walk in and this place is huge....huge and empty. eight o'clock at night and the only thing going on is the 5 patrons sitting in the bar listening to a live band. No signs of life whatsoever in the dining room. Not even maybe a dirty table that needed to be cleaned to show someone was there recently. We were sat quickly and greetly quickly. The bread given was sad. It was one dinner room given to us with a pad of butter directly on the plate. The guy i went with, being a cook, noted the bread wasn't herbed right and there was too much salt in the crust. I ordered the filet and he ordered the pesto chicken ravioli. We sat there laughing about how empty it was. As i checked yelp reviews i saw a tiny spider crawl across the table. it's life was promptly ended with my butter knife.
Our food came at a reasonable pace. I thought it would come at lightening speed since we were the only ones there. My plate was a composed plate that had a filet laid on top of a small stacks of mashers. It sat in a wine sauce that had mushrooms and a piece of artichoke. My steak was overcooked :( . I asked for med rare but got nearly med well. The steak was grilled, i prefered mine broiled. The texture was a bit tough and chewy. The chicken on his ravioli was rubbery and hard to cut through. The ravioli itself seemed like it was just store bought then boiled when needed.
The ambiance and decor is sad. It was sooooooo dimly light in this place. I know restaurants are supposed to be that way sometimes but this was bad. We had to rely on a candle that sat on our table. We even joked around holding the candle to our face like we were out camping. The decor in the place was old. little paintings sat on the wall, the floor with cheesy flower print.
Our tab came to $65 (entrees and two beers) i wish i ditched out on. Him and I will never be coming back, i'd rather hit up the sizzler next door.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Chris C.Union City, CA4554915Nov 8, 2007
The Fiance mother was in town & thought this would a good time for our parents to meet. We decided to give Arthur's a try. Arthur's Restaurant is an American style bistro. Nicely decorated, they have a main room, a bar, & an upstairs area dinning area. Their menu ranges from Pastas to items off the grill such as Seafood & Steak. You're looking at around $6 -$10 for appetizers & salads, $10 - $16 for pastas, & $15 - $25 for seafood & meats. They also have veggie options too.
We got here & they were holding a party downstairs so they seated us upstairs for dinner. Since we got here early we sat down at a round table with place setting for 7. When my fiance got here, there was 7 chairs but 5 place settings. All the chairs didn't have utensils so we passed the setting around.
The waitress showed up & basically asked us what we wanted, yes in that kind of tone. I ordered the Clam Chowder & the Fettuccini with Jumbo Prawns & Scallops. The Fiance got a Green Salad & the Vegetarian Lasagna. It took awhile for the food to come but when it did everyone seemed to enjoy their salad & the Clam Chowder was ok.
After we finished our salads & appetizers, the plates sat there. No one was there to clean it up or even refills on water. Our plates were not cleared until our dinners arrived. We got our dinners & what a major disappointment. I order the Fettuccini & instead of a creme sauce I got olive oil & a light marinara sauce. The food tasted like it was sitting under a heating lamp & I'm guessing it was the leftovers from the party downstairs. The seafood was dried out & chewy. My fiance only ate half her lasagna because it was way to salty & was so bad we didn't want to take any home. Other comments was the chicken pasta was dried & luke warm, the fish my mother got was under seasoned & my father wasn't impressed with his meal.
The waitress asked if we wanted dessert & we made the mistake of saying yes. Well she forgot about us & we had to ask twice as well ask someone to clear the table for us. We got the creme burlee & the key lime cake. The creme burlee was good but the key lime cake was horrible.
Overall, a terrible terrible experience at Arthurs especially considering my future mother in law traveled a long way to be here with us. I think the party downstairs had to do with the awful service & food here. Also the music & DJ was so loud, just added to a very poor dining experience. The only thing that was prompt was getting the bill. While the service here is partially to blame, I also blame very poor management too. If you're going to have a party either don't except reservations a week out or you hire enough staff to give excellent service for those who decide to dine here during the time of the party. They set themselves up to fail. Total waste of $170 & would strongly advise people to avoid Arthur's restaurant. To put it blunty, the joke of the night was we would have been better off eating at the Jack-In-The Box next door than eating at Arthur's.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ryan P.Redmond, WA321351Aug 1, 2007
So, you couldn't get a table at Birk's and you still want a comparable meal ~1 mile away? The food is pretty good, no complaints, the atmosphere is a bit strange, and yes, it somehow seems to be affiliated with the hotel across the parking lot.

I wasn't sure what to expect when we decided to try this place. My guy came across it on opentable.
I was a little disappointed when I saw it was kind of in a hotel, (even though that's not fair, because I've had some great food in hotel restaurants.) It's actually not exactly in the hotel, but it feels that way.
Anyway......On to the food.
It started out much better than I had expected. I had clams in a garlicky, buttery sauce for a starter. It was pretty good, but he guy who brought it out didn't bring a dish for the shells. He did bring it on request, but i don't think that's something you should have to ask for.
I figured we'd have good service, since it wasn't very busy.
For the most part we did. We got our food quickly, and our waiter stopped whenever he passed by.
Although, when it came time for the check , we waited much too long.
Back to the food.....
For my entree I had the miso glazed seabass. It was not at all what I expected! I'm a big fan of miso black cod, and I was expecting something similar. It had no similarities to that dish at all.
I think the only seasoning the chef had in the kitchen was salt! I had to send my sea bass back because it was so salty it was inedible.
The waiter was very nice about it, and checked several times to make sure i was happy with the new piece of sea bass. I totally was! The second time around it was great, Not too dry, and not oversalted.
The atmosphere is nonexistent, this is definitely not a place to wear a cool outfit to, (as I found out, it was a waste.)
If i hadn't had to send my fish back, I would have given them 4 stars.Unfortunantly, even though they corrected the problem, it shouldn't have happened.
I think this spot would be a great place for a catered event. I might check it out as a wedding venue.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - S. L.Mountain View, CA241Feb 1, 2008
After reading the reviews on this site, my husband and I were a little scared to go, but since I had purchased my $25 restaurant.com "gift certificate" eons ago... we found ourselves there for dinner this evening. There was only one other table dining when we got there and by the time we left there were only 2 additional tables. FYI, we're in our 30's and found ourselves approximately 30+ years younger than all of the other diners. The service was great - looked like there was one waitress and a few busboys, but everyone was attentive and very pleasant.
The bread was simple, but good - warm and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. We ordered the appetizer sampler which consisted of fried calamari, grilled prawns, a crabcake and 2 raw oysters - everything was pretty good, but the prawns were especially delicious. For our entrees I had the penne pasta with trip-tip which was pretty good, albeit a bit too creamy for my taste. My husband ordered a rib eye steak medium rare and it was cooked to perfection - a rarity even when we go to expensive steakhouses (we usually have to send it back). We topped off our meal with a key-lime pie that was pretty good as well. All in all we had a pleasant evening we just wish that the restaurant was a little brighter!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
