9 reviews for Angelo's of Burien
I'd read a bit about Angelo's and was happy I was able to convince one of my friends to join me there for dinner after an event at nearby E.B. Foote Winery. I love places like this. Probably unchanged since the 50s, with lots of darkness and Chianti bottles for decor.
First off, I'll say that our service was impeccable throughout the meal. The starter salad was nothing extraordinary, but I love any vessel for blue cheese dressing. I went with the Chicken Piccata, which was fantastic, paired with crisp steamed vegetables. The side of pasta with parmesan was a bit superfluous as I was already stuffed, but a nice addition for hearty appetities. Not to be overlooked is the excellent rustic garlic bread which came with the meal. My dining partner was very impressed with her generous four pieces of loaded tomato bruschetta, and neither of our wallets were hurting from the meal. My dinner (plus a split 1/2 carafe of wine) plus tax and tip came to $31...and I'm a 20% tipper.
I'm trying to get more of my friends on board with this place...if you live in Seattle, it's definitely worth the short trek to Burien!
The service at Angelo's is never good, but tonight was a new low. On the plus side, the Seafood Canneloni seldom disappoints, and we like the mozzarella and tomato antipasto. But you have to be desperate for something close to home in Burien to put up with the poor customer service.
We arrived at a little before 5:00 p.m. on Saturday (we hadn't eaten lunch and were hungry) with our well-behaved 3-year-old girl. The hostess told a helper (I'm guessing he buses the tables) where to seat us and walked away. While he was getting the menus, a trim, white-haired man in a chef's jacket came and told him to seat us at "table 19." (Strange -- why would a chef leave the kitchen to direct dining room traffic?) We were led to a section with 12 tables, all empty and waiting except for a large party celebrating a birthday, seated at three 4-tops pushed together . Table 19 turned out to be right next to them - literally less than 12 inches from their chair backs. I asked why, with the rest of the room completely empty, we had to be seated right at their backs, and was told that "the man" (indeed!) had said so, and that some tables were reserved.
The server was inattentive at best, although there were a couple of lowly helpers to the servers who were really running their butts off and appeared to do all the work. We appreciated it, because otherwise we would never have gotten drink refills, our check, or possibly even our food. A couple more tables of people arrived, and they were seated in the *same* section at tables on the far side of the room, the ones that supposedly weren't available when we were seated. Someone eventually came and put a "reserved" sign on ONE table -- another right next to us and the party table. The rest of the tables remained empty for the hour we were there.
The mystery remains: Why did a chef have us seated in the worst possible place available? (There were two other sections that were mostly empty as well.) Does he hate children? My partner is Latino -- is he racist? Or was it a random act of stupidity? I took a business card on the way out with the intention of complaining to the owner -- and found that the chef is the owner. Could it be the same chef who decided where to seat us? I have to assume so, as I can think of no reason why a *chef* would make a seating decision otherwise.
So I guess this was our last visit to Angelo's. I sure wish we could get some good, local restaurants run by decent people in Burien!
Wow!!! And that is not a good wow. Maybe some people have really low expectations about food. I on the other hand, have very high expectations. I can't believe that residents of Burien highly recommend this place. I truly felt I was going to accidentally walk into a secret back room housing the Italian mafia.
Yes, it is old, but I believe the cooking techniques are equally as old. I believe my young kids can make better bruschetta than this place! Matter of fact I know they can and have!!
I don't know if it is employees writing other great reviews....but this place is dismal at best.
I am not normally a fan of italian food. I just think of bland olive garden fare. Angelo's on the other hand is amazing. The decor is old and outdated, but is part of the charm. The food is delicious, and portions are good. I love their little slices of garlic tost sprinkled with parmesean. I have been many times and have not had a bad, or even average meal. There is a reason why this place has been open for over 50 years, without adding flashy signs or advertising, and off the beaten path.
If you have not been GO THERE NOW!
Great, simple Italian and steaks. I liked the variety of preparations they offered for their steaks and the price was totally reasonable. Check-out the menu from the 1950's on your left as you walk-in. It looks like they've got the same basic menu. Having the same menu for 50 years really speaks to their quality and consistency.
The best Italian food in Burien. Good food, relatively good prices (for a nice dinner) and nice people. Much better than the other Angelo's! The place may be dark and dreary, but the specials (which aren't available certain days) are to die for. Highly recommended!
Order off the specials menu if you can!!! That's the best.
Reliably good Italian food in the heart of Burien. They offer a good range of specialties - pizza, chicken, beef, and pasta dishes all smothered in a perfect marinara sauce.
Its a great place for lunch or for a dinner - however, don't come here if you are in a rush. The service is rather leisurely.
I really enjoyed the penne with meat sauce and the meatballs are rather glorious. Filled with lots of yummy spices and deliciousness. The desserts are also good - I particularly enjoyed the tiramisu; they don't F around with the brandy.
Really great and unexpected little treasure in Burien. Angelo's doesn't look like much from the outside but inside it's like a little Italian grotto, dark and cozy with candle light tables, reminds me of the restaurant off Lady and the Tramp. The food was hot and delicious, the Chianti we had was very nice and the service was good but not intrusive and we were able to have a conversation and not constantly be interrupted by the wait staff . They also have a beautiful banquet room that is light and airy that we used for our wedding rehearsal dinner and they really took care of us. If you are in Burien and looking for a nice date place, Angelo's may lack the shimmer and newness of some other places but it has a charm all its own. I only gave it 4 stars because the building could use a little updating but perhaps that's part of its charm.
Great food and a friendly staff.
