I know this is part of a big chain. That usually doesn't score points with me, but I keep coming back. I'm not quite sure why though.
I do like the noodles, which are pretty consistent, although not outstanding. As someone else mentioned, the place does open a little later into the night. So, sometimes after a ballgame, I'll come here with buddies to grab a bite before heading home.
Their broth does taste a little bit different than others. I taste some star anise (licorice) in there or something. Anybody else? I think it tastes better than Than Brothers, of course without the cream puffs.

In the olden days, they had all these obstructed view seats where you had to peer around these large supports in the seating area. After the remodel, these were removed and it created a much nicer seating area and views of the court. The only thing that stinks now is they put these lame scoreboard readers up at the top that block your view if you are sitting way up at the top. Who was the brilliant person that architected that change?
It's a nice little place to watch Husky hoops now though. It's small enough that it can get pretty noisy still.

There is a small parking garage right across the street, but unless you hit the early show, it will most likely be filled up.
We had dinner here before the early show and there is a whole menu from the last time I visited. Since my friends were late, I ordered some calamari. Mistake. Rubbery and tasteless. Don't do it. I left most of it on the plate.
The entrees were much better, there were some nice oven roasted veggies accompanying our steaks. One of us had the salmon, but I didn't hear how he thought it was.
Great place to relax and listen.

Jazz Alley has a little bit of a monopoly on this business. It's the only upscale jazz club around Seattle. I know there is Tula's, Jazzbones in Tacoma and even Triple Door, but this is the place that draws the larger, more mainstream acts.
I get here a couple/few times a year. It can be a nice romantic evening with that special one.
The food isn't all the great for the price and I think they realized it, because they retooled the menu a while back. The best seats are reserved for the folks eating dinner there. Although most of the seats are fine. I've even sat through a set sitting in the bar.
Being located where they are, there are lots of other eating options around if you decide you want to eat somewhere else.
The environment is pretty friendly. Eric Marienthal actually stopped to chat with one of my friends and came back after the set to sign a CD for her. (Probably didn't hurt that she's a knockout blonde! )
Bonus, if you happen to hit a slower nite and don't have to go to work the next day, sometimes they will let you stay for the second set free of charge.

We walk in and sit down, order a couple of soft drinks and some app's to warm us up. Staff comes back after a bit before serving our fish and says, "I remember you guys." Huh? I've been there once before, about a year ago. I actually had to look up my Yelp review to remember when that was. Anyways, she manages to rattle off what we ordered the first time we were there. (I'm secretly thinking, 'Damn, I'm boring and very predictable!')
After we are into our fish, she comes back and says, "You know, I think one of you ordered a beer last time. One of you had a small Sapporo." Uh, that was me and it was a large. We were pretty impressed. I can't even remember when I was in the restaurant last and she remembers what we had to eat!
Anyways, the fish(chirashi again) was fresh and good and I like the unpretentiousness of the place. I need to come back more (and freaking order something different this time!).

One of my buds had an extra ticket to a Husky's hoops game and we decided to grab dinner beforehand. I remember reading Katie S's review and although he wanted chinese, I talked him into coming here.
Cool little place that is a converted house. It was empty inside and we caught the end of HH. We did the lightning order of some karaage, a roll and Sapporo. For about 9 bucks, we had the start of a pretty good meal. This was followed by chirashi. The fish was fresh and tasty, plus it came out quickly.
Staff was attentive and friendly and we were pretty pleased with the whole experience. I'm not up in the area that much, but I think I'm going to try and come here again. It had a little bit of that homey feel and it's quiet enough to actually have a conversation.
The pizzas are huge and piled with toppings and I've never, ever been able to eat more than a few slices. I'm not a crust type of guy, so I love wading through a slice that is piled high with goodies.
Why only four stars? The place still looks like it's from the 1970's, the pizzas are really salty (which are means more beverages) and I hate standing around in the front when you order a take out version, because they won't start your order until you get there.

I came here early with a friend and while there were plenty of people in the lounge area, we were the only people sitting in the dining room. The staff was with us quickly and we received a free nibble, which was some sort of potato and egg mixture that was great! We ordered our pitcher of sangria and quickly decided on the stuffed pepper appetizer and a paella.
The peppers and the sangria were both tasty but we were anxiously awaiting the paella. I think we were stuttering because we were only focused on the paella.
It was served with a flourish and divied up amongst us. We dug in and found it....just okay. I guess we were thinking there would be a bit more seafood and less of everything else? I'm not sure but I could tell she was thinking the same as I, okay and maybe even a little disappointing?
One of my buddies had raved about it before but my friend and I we were both thinking, maybe we should have just done tapas and a pitcher?

I came here early, with a party of 5. Of course, everyone is late so I grab a table and the hostess explains that that the table is taken by another party at 8 pm. Do I think that will be a problem? Since it's around 5 pm, I'm good to go.
Huge selection to choose from, but since I went with something blah. I think I need to come on a half off day to get more experimental.
I still hate those heavy wrought iron chairs. They're uncomfortable and impossible to move around. That said, service was good and the food was okay. The bill wasn't a wallet buster and I got there early enough to find parking. (I think we had some app's and the ahi tuna for eats.)

It's been quite awhile since I've been here, but I'm not as hot on this place as the average bear, apparently. I was here during the holiday season before and tried to make it during the summer but we ended up heading somewhere else at the last minute.
I thought the food was average, but all the different flights were entertaining to choose from. The seating is too close together and the big metal chairs are uncomfortable. It tends to be really noisy inside, too. We felt kind of rushed when we were here in a small group and we were crammed in a corner.
Maybe sitting outside on a hot summer night is better? I have to give it another try.
It had a lot of positives. It's clean, it opens early and it has it's own parking lot. Service was prompt and the pho was pretty good. I'm pretty consistent is just ordering pho with brisket and rare steak, sometimes with tendon (and once in a rare while, tripe...i added that just for you, Joy).
When we landed in there, there were a couple of police officers munching on lunch already on the weekend. I usually take that as a pretty good sign that it's a pretty solid, affordable place to eat.
It has a pretty big menu so I will be back to try some other items. The sammiches are really inexpensive and I was tempted to grab something extra for lunch at work.

Here with a big pack of people for dinner, we were crammed in a corner and I ended up at the end of the table. I shared an order of shabu shabu with another person.
A place of cabbage, bok choy, mushrooms, enoki, onions, noodles and bean sprouts (really, how the hell do you get the bean sprouts out to eat?) accompanied a plate of meat. Oh yeah, and there were a few lone slices of carrots and bamboo shoots. Our little pot was too small to really cook that much, but I'm a trooper. I put on my snorkle and fished everything I could out of the broth. Quite the adventure and all in all, not bad.
When we left, the bar was packed with folks, but we didn't hear them in the dining room. So, if they were raucous or singing, we didn't catch it. Maybe we were just too early.

I was a little thrown off when I walked inside, as the restaurant portion was up and running but there was nobody on the BBQ side. I didn't wait long before someone gave out to help me, though.
I bought some char siu and soy sauce chicken to take home. The chicken was not overcooked and was pretty tasty, I must admit. The char siu was a little more dried out and I will admit to liking Kau Kau's better. Not bad, but not outstanding.
My curiousity is still not satisfied and I'll have to stop in and give the restaurant portion a try soon.

Dine Around Seattle 2009 (part deux) -…
Date

Then you changed your hours and kept changing them. First, late night hours shortened up and my late night pho runs disappeared. Then, you started opening later on the weekends, which conflicted with early morning Uwaji shopping sprees.
So, I don't love you that much any more. I've met more pho places now. I'm more social. You're just like a work friend now. Be careful, keep this up and you might just lose more status and become only an acquaintance.
