      First to Review

We stayed here in June, 2006 - the first time we'd ever stayed at any Shilo Inn. We chose it because, with two young kids who sleep early, we need a suite. And also because it was the most expensive hotel we found in Bend, and we assumed that would afford us some luxury after a long drive from San Francisco.

Boy, were we mistaken! We'll never stay here again, nor will we ever stay at any Shilo Inn again. Here's why:

      1) Our "suite" was actually only a single room, very much like other single rooms we could've reserved at another hotel for a much lower price. I went to the front desk to purchase an upgrade, but was told that the hotel doesn't actually have any suites. Isn't that false advertising?

      2) We had extra visitors in our room -- gnats and spiders, even a dead spider on the ceiling that housekeeping had never removed. By the time these guests showed up, my wife and kids were all asleep so I decided not to bother asking for another room.

      3) Worse than that, when my daughter woke up and pushed the covers off of her in the morning, we discovered a hard-shelled, beetle-like bug crawling in the bed!

I explained all this to the front desk person when checking out, but all she managed was a quick "I'm sorry" as she told me where I needed to sign for payment.

When we got back home, I emailed all these concerns to the hotel email address listed on Shilo's web site, and also sent a copy to the corporate email address, too. To this date, more than 2 weeks later, the hotel staff has not replied.

I did receive a letter by snail mail from the corporate office, with the following explanations:

      1) Across the hotel industry, "suite" no longer means two rooms. The letter included a quote from Webster's dictionary for the word "suite."

      2) Gnats, spiders, and bugs are "commonplace during the summer when the location is along a river."

Included with the letter was a voucher for a free night at any Shilo Inn. We won't be needing it.....

I read the reviews before hand so I can't say I was surprised. They were clearly understaffed at check in. You can tell this was a really nice hotel at one point. Everything is very dated and old, however other than the stains on the carpet everything seemed pretty clean. The pool was great for the kids and the sauna was nice.

We tried to call the front desk from the room and got no answer on two occasions. I called the number from my cell and finally got through to the front desk and asked for more pillows. He explained they were short staffed but he would put it on the list and they were also short on pillows. We negotiated for two pillows even though we wanted three but they never arrived.

We paid less than a hundred bucks for this room on a Saturday night. I wouldn't pay much more than that. Honestly this is a beautiful property and hopefully somebody will buy it and invest in updating it because it could be really nice.

**BLOOD ON THE CARPET IN ROOM 604 & ANIMAL FECES IN 506**

Recently checked in to this hotel, reserving the king suite with jetted tub ($350, mind you). Checked in and found blood on the carpet with no attempt to clean and dead bugs in the bathroom and next to the fireplace.
After telling the front, we were moved to another room. When I opened the door, there was a family occupying it. Made the trip to the lobby again and he said I had the wrong room - even though the key opened the door of the room that he had written on the key sleeve?
We were then moved to another room, after confirming it was the same as what we had booked. Upon entering, there were dead bugs and leaves everywhere on the floor, huge stains all over and after further inspection we found animal feces in the kitchen area.

I called the lobby again as we had plans and explained that we were unhappy. The man at the desk rudely said not to come back to the hotel and that my room keys and reservation had been cancelled - leaving us without a hotel hours away from home and later in the evening.

Don't bother calling the "800" number as they can't help you with anything because "they're just an extension" and you need to handle things with the front desk.

Do not stay here. Do not waste your money. Do not put your health at risk staying at this hotel.

I will be Reporting this hotel to the proper agency.

Have you ever want to stay at a hotel that seems nice, but is actually more like a 87 Chevy Sprint? Then the Shilo Inn, in Bend, Oregon is the place for you!

The check in was smooth and easy. Walking into the room, I noticed two things:
1.) The room was much bigger than I anticipated
2.) Besides the flatscreen TV, this place has not been updated since about 1980. But....I'm not here for the decor, so I don't really care about that.

Like most hotels, my room had a small dresser. Naturally, I open it to unpack my bag. Oh...ok a spare pillow is in the drawer.

But....why are there bloodstains all over the pillow? And WHY would housekeeping put it in there with bloodstains?

But wait! There's more! In the cabinet over the kitchen sink is a toaster....COVERED with greasy fingerprints.

In the drawer is a bowl with what looks like urine stains, but is more likely coffee. Who doesn't drink their coffee out of a bowl?

In the same drawer is some other brownish stain.

Think we're done? Hell No! If you look in another cabinet you can find a can opener, AND a bunch of black smudges all over the cabinet surface!

Now....for the SAME LOW PRICE, they even throw in a pair of stranger's underwear next to the bed!

Turning on the lamp next to the bed, I'm treated to yet another bloodstain, INSIDE THE LAMPSHADE! It takes effort to get blood inside a lampshade.

As I went on a walk the first morning, the garbage cans on the property were overflowing and stayed that way for my entire stay.

Reporting all of these issues to the front desk in the morning, resulted in the desk attendant giving me a look of annoyance, as if I shouldn't be bothering her.

To her credit, she did offer to give me another room. I declined, because I was about to head out for the day, and really didn't want to pack all of my stuff back up. I told her if someone cleaned it, I'd prefer that.

Returning to my room several hours later, the underwear and bloody pillow were gone, but absolutely none of the other issues were taken care of.

As I was about to head back out for the night, I went back to the desk. Different staff this time. She was very apologetic, and again offered to move me. I again declined for the same reason as before. She said she would leave a note for the manager asking if I can get a partial refund. I've heard nothing from the management.

So...I'd say if you are planning on staying here, bring your own pillow, lots of hand sanitizer and a full body condom.

And if you look close....there may be a dead person missing their pillow somewhere.

What ever you do..... do not stay here! The front desk person was very stoned! (Weed). Was getting ready to get into bed and pulled the bedding back and it had debris as well as blood stains in a couple of spots along with hair!!? I called down to the office twice and let it ring off the hook before I drove back to the office and no one was there??? I was voicing loudly "hello ' then the stoner front desk boy comes out and doesn't understand why ‍.I did get into a better room however I will never stay at a Shilo Inn again especially after talking to a representative for them. Don't waste your money!

Amazing!!! First off, the grounds are BEAUTIFUL and very clean. We got a room right by the creek and it was so beautiful. Then, YOU CAN BRING YOUR DOGS! That was SUCH a bonus! Plus, there are two pools!!! One inside and one outside, and the inside pool was BEAUTIFUL, and very warm! My family had the whole pool to ourselves and we swam all day. The roof is partially opened to the sky and the best part was swimming inside and enjoying a light, summer rain. We really can't recommend this place enough and decided to visit Bend more just to go here and enjoy the pool. I 1,000% recommend it, especially for families. You won't be disappointed.

I'm sorry to say anything bad but this was a whack experience. We get to the hotel, the front desk lady who's blonde seemed very off and unfriendly. I asked how much our room was and she responds by pointing at the page and letting me know that "it says that right there" but in a idgaf way. We get to our room it hasn't been cleaned yet. They give us another room. The room smelled horrible, the cups, shower, and ice bucket were all uncleaned. All day and night the cleaning ladies were talking loud and legit slamming doors. Like how do u not know how to close a door why slam it. It was not a pleasant experience. I've stayed in motel 6 multiple times and I'd take that over this place. Also the place seemed like the kind of place from a horror movie the way both the front desk people were. Also the tv was static. Please just spend the extra 30 bucks and go somewhere else.

      The tv
      Not an excellence experience

Had a room that had a kitchenette, which I didn't reserve but ok.. Then we see how cables are run through holes drilled in wall (not ok for commercial property), kinda dingy and dirty...

No dishes and not even a way to stir coffee... Drain plug didn't work in tub... Just went way down hill.

We reserved a room with a jetted tub but it did not have one. TV's are broken, carpets and walls badly stained.

Facility seems nearly abandoned. Staff was friendly, room was serviced ok (bed made, towels and soap etc) but looks like it hadn't had a deep clean since 1980. Massive spiderwebs on the ceiling, gross carpet, light fixtures broken etc. The irrigation system has so many problems that it floods the walkways and parking lot every morning. Looks like that's been happening for months. There must be better options at this price point in Bend. I feel bad for the people who work there.

I'd definitely give this a zero. We had no choice to stay here because a friend of mine paid for the room and this what he decided. Driving in, it was a little confusing where the lobby was since there so many buildings. The front desk lady smelled like cigarettes. The room was way below my standards. Found a dried up coffee spill on the counter. The carpet is wavy and disgusting. The non vacuumed carpeted balcony is filthy, has cobwebs, and the chairs are dirty. The trees were blocking what i could tell wouldve been a nice view of the river. Found a dead bug in the sink and another one of the wall. No hand soap. On the side of the bathtub and floor, I could tell something spilled. My friend paid $625 for 2 nights! A month ago we stayed in a nice hotel for only $170 for one night. Inns should be cheaper than hotels..... stay away!
