Such a great view of Union Square at night, especially at Christmas time. The servers definitely tried their best to be prompt and to not missing orders, but it's a pretty busy weekend before Christmas. We were happy and adequately lubricated by alcohol so we didn't care that much when they forgot our order.
The only annoying part is when a group blocked the most prime spot viewing area and just hung out there for a very long time.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 2, 2018
After attending an event nearby, my friend and I decided to stop by Starlight Room for a quick drink. We walked in Thursday, June 28th around 11:30pm. I believe it was close to closing, so we easily found a small table by a window.
We were here for less than an hour, so just grabbed one round of drinks. We got a Bud Light, I believe a Jameson & Ginger, and a bottle of Acqua Panna. (I didn't get the round, so not sure of pricing.) The views are nice. I believe it's on the 21st floor, so you have a nice view of the city. The vibe here is very old school and throwback. Even the booths feel like they are from a different decade. I think they normally have live music, but since they were closing soon, it was rather quiet. I didn't mind since I just wanted to enjoy the view.
A good quick stop. I haven't been here in close to a decade, so it was fun revisiting an old spot.Helpful 16Thanks 0Love this 15Oh no 0 - Amanda C.Mountain View, CA19993136Oct 20, 2019
I REALLY wanted to like this place, but I left a bit disappointed. I get it now that it's meant to be just a lounge and not a dinner spot.
Came here on Friday for dinner, we ordered TJ oysters, charcuterie board, truffle fries and dessert
Oyesters 10/10
Charcuterie board 3/10: only 2 cheeses, they were good, but the break sticks are hard to eat with the the board. Also, no spreads just pickled vegetables, 2 cheeses and 3 meats.
Drinks: 6/10 all the drinks we had were ok. Nothing surprising, and overly sweet.
Dessert: first we ordered the macaroons, they were AWFUL. One bite and the whole thing crumbled. Felt like they were super old and dried up.
Second dessert was the candies apple 10/10. Presentation is beautiful and it was the best thing we ate!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kate H.Baltimore, MD414354Jun 4, 2018
After a less than stellar experience at Scala's my partner and I decided to explore more of the Sir Francis Drake and made our way up to The Starlight Room. It was still early in the evening and the place hadn't really picked up yet, but we loved the mood and the unbeatable views overlooking Union Square.
We got to talking to the host, Robert, who is awesome and a huge reason this lounge is getting five stars. He was warm, friendly and encouraged us to come back the next night a little later in the evening when the DJ would be in.
We returned the next night about 9:45 and the atmosphere was definitely more lively. This lounge seems to cater to a diverse range of people. It isn't just a "hip, young" establishment; we saw plenty of patrons well over 30 years old there. It has a bit of a more classy, cabaret sort of feel with the large, red velvet booths and lighting. The DJ was fine, most people stayed on the floor and the selection of music was good and the atmosphere maintained without much lull.
One thing I will say that counted against this spot is the staffing. The night we came they seemed VERY understaffed and the waiters were running around like headless chickens trying to get to all their guests. There was a wait for a table and after we were seated my partner and I waited a bit to be seen. Fortunately, the host, Robert, went above and beyond bringing us waters and my partner's drink orders, checking in on us, and making sure we were taken care of. We ended up having a wonderful night and will absolutely return when back in San Francisco.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 17, 2015
3.5 stars
THE VIEW IS TO DIE FOR! Seriously!! Came here for my friend's birthday & we had a good time. I'm a huge hip hop person & it wasn't played until past midnight... Though, it was only on for 30mins. So, while I was waiting for hiphop, I just took pictures of the view. When you walk in, you'll get a whole panoramic view of the heart of SF from a bird's eye view!!! Extremely breathtaking especially at night with all the lights on!! The view is 5 stars, but the experience was 3.5. The bathrooms are clean by the way with hooks for you to place your things. Just don't forget about them!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0Business owner information

Hello Gwyne,
Thank you for sharing with us. We're happy you enjoyed the view. We do play plenty of hip hop, so you'll have to come back and try us another time. Hope to see you soon! - Adelina M.Glendale, Los Angeles, CA5520727Jun 4, 2018
This was a very interesting place. We were staying at the hotel and took advantage of the "free cover" before 8.
We initially walked up to grab a drink and check out the dance area. I ordered a gin and tonic which was average, to say the least (kinda watered down) and a wine.
We also ordered some chips with a french dip (kinda tasted funky) and some sweet potato fries (delish).
The views are spectacular. Almost a 360 view of the city with glimpses of fireworks from the distance on certain days.
This was a mixed crowd with a mixed vibe. Some people were having dinner, others just drinks, and other others here for the dancing part...that was interesting. They have a dance floor and a dj I believe, it just seemed like a random combo.
I'm not from the area and many locals recommended this place so worth checking out if staying near Union Square.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 11, 2017
I am selectively observant. For example:
1) I drive manfriend nuts because he can leave a present for me out in the open for weeks and I will show no inkling or interest in peeking.
2) But, if he asks a question I can't answer, I must Google until I find the answer.
3) I stayed at this hotel for a week and others within spitting distance and it never occurred to me to wonder what the Starlight Room was, despite the sign on the side of the building.
I met some friends up here for drinks. It reminds me of a smaller Signature Room back home in Chicago. There's a stellar view of the city and a nice sized dance floor with a disco ball; unfortunately when we were here no one was dancing because they were playing some bad disco. Drinks are a little pricey, but you're in a hotel that's a touristy destination. It's dark and dim making it a good spot for an after dinner cocktail; probably better on week night if you want it to be low key.
If you're visiting the city; it's worth a trip up for a drink. While it intends to be a classier place, there were plenty of people dressed casually, so don't let that keep you away.
FYI: Gratuity was included on my tab for 1 drink.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Chelsea S.Austin, TX427221504Nov 3, 2017
This review is specifically for "Sunday's a Drag," a Sunday brunch buffet located in the top floor of The Starlight Room near Union Square. The decor is about as tacky as they come, but it certainly fits with the vibe of the performers and the show.
"Sunday's a Drag" is an opportunity for you to be graced by the presence of some fabulous, vibrant, and colorful drag queens. I could not recommend this experience more. The cost of $60 per person is well worth it for the food accompanied by an unforgettable show. The main hostess, Donna, will have you laughing with her corny drag jokes, her sultry singing voice, and details of her colorful personal history. The other drag queens will strut their stuff and sing and dance and interact with the audience and have you laughing your butt off.
Now, if you are a stiff, I am not sure why you would even be reading my review of Sunday's a Drag. Just stay home. But if you are comfortable with the possibility of some drag queen intimacy, then wake up and show up to Sunday brunch. If you want the "full" experience, make sure you grab a seat right around the stage. But even if you don't, you are not safe! The drag queens definitely make their way around the whole seating area to make sure everyone gets their own personal interaction. ;-)
My husband was in the hottest seat of them all, being the only man seated around the stage, and also being directly next to the steps from the stage to the seating floor. He got many drag queen tits in his face, a kiss on the lips, a lap dance, and more. My glasses managed to have drag queen lipstick all over them. We were laughing the whole time. Highly recommended for something different or if you are just into drag. It's a great, intimate show. An unforgettable experience! Do it.
That said, the food isn't that good. But you're not there for the food. For reference, I am a true foodie and still recommend this brunch. If I were providing a star rating based on food alone, I would provide 2 stars. The experience is a 5 though. So overall, a 4.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - O. Just went and saw this disgusting monstrosity!
With this remodel they totally ruined the last good remaining bar in union square. We were so repelled by the cold starkness of the interior, we couldn't even stay for a drink.
Maybe they ran out of money half way through and couldn't finish the remodel? But I thought Ikea furniture was cheap?
A place like this in a beautiful historic hotel deserves so much better! It looks like a bar in the basement of an SRO in the Tenderloin. Except all the drinks are $18+
An empty soulless box, for all the empty soulless people that will go there...
Long live Harry Denton!!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Camera P.San Francisco, CA1651121131May 7, 2017
A nice place to check out to check out if you want a nice view and place to relax. The DJ was alright and playing a mix of dance, hip hop, and EDM. The set flow was not the best and we all had to stop dancing for a few songs because it kind of threw all of us off. The drinks are made well and the décor was nice.
Can't beat the view, but there are plenty of places out there for better music and better drinks.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
