6/12/08: I've walked by here numerous times as they built this hotel and even after its completion some 12-24 months ago. I went to a dinner event last night (held in their main ballroom) - beautiful cocktail area with great views of Yerba Buena and SF MOMA. The staff was very attentive and had drinks and appetizers ready as you walked out of the elevator. The dinner meal included a salad (asian pear, Frisee, Pt Reyes blue cheese with olive oil dressing), main course that fantastic (black cod on bamboo rice with beets and tempura fennel). Great evening overall-
I'm mainly reviewing thier "room service" because my sister and my brother-in-law lives in the other side - the residence side.
Going to this place to hang-out and or babysit my pregnant sis is like a whole new world. The past couple of times, we've ordered room service because we were all too lazy to cook. We've ordered dinner - which was superb!
More recently, we've ordered breakfast. I had the French toast and the boy had blueberry pancakes. My French toast came with some amazing vanilla cream and trying to lose weight, I opted not to touch it. However, the boy tasted it and soon enough, he started dipping his fresh blueberries in the cream and he was just in heaven. We also ordered a mocha for me...and a soy latte for the boy.
Overall, the food was amazing. Even better was their room service! They set-up the food for you and the whole deal. I have yet to experience the hotel side or even their bar downstairs, but I don't think I'll need to do that anytime soon. It helps that my sis is just up there. =)

Although I came to the St. Regis for an event and did not stay, the glimpses that I caught of the room and suite were enough to make me wish I had the pocketbook for a week long stay.
Other than the rooms, the concierge service was amazing. Whenever I needed to organize anything, make reservations, cancel reservations, or store random things - they were friendly, professional, and handled things with ease.
According to the guests that were staying at the hotel, the ice bucket is always filled and clean towels always manage to find their way into the room, even if you've left for a few hours.
The only minor complaint would be the room service food, which is decent but rather excessively pricey. I'd recommend going to a restaurant nearby (after all, it's San Francisco - food abounds) rather than eating food in your room...unless you have to.
For a swanky event or just to treat someone extra special - this is the hotel to book.

There is no hotel I have visited that compares with the over-the-top attentiveness and amenities offered at this hotel. The three person greeting team at the lobby door was backed up by an accommodating doorman and a pleasant front desk clerk. The beautiful, mirror & wood elevators zip you to your quiet floor. Think ZEN....
The upper floor room amenities include an intimate view of several beautiful buildings just outside, however, you lose the view when you lower the translucent shades. I highly recommend that if you choose to languish in the tub (which features doors that fully open to the bedroom and view) during the daytime hours. I just assume that people in nearby glass buildings have binoculars and act accordingly.
A simple rain fixture plus a handheld shower sprinkles just the right amount of pleasant morning vibe inside the marble shower. Behind a twin frosted glass door is the separate toilet with a wall made of stitched leather tiles. It is clear from the custom paneling that hides the closet and is the backdrop for the flat screen TV, that no expense has been spared to offer guests the most luxurious surroundings. I do wonder, however, why the guest closet is barely adequate (read "tiny").
There is a spa, pool, patio, two restaurants, a lobby level bar and full room service available. The nightstand features a menu of hotel services you can call up at the touch of the screen. The bedding is Italian cotton and the fluffy comforter and pillows make sleep a pleasure. Once the automatic shades are down, it is possible to drift off in minutes. This hotel is well worth the $300+ nightly rate.
It was a magnificent way to spend Mother's Day weekend.

I've only come here for drinks and spa treatments, so this is not a review on the "hotel" experience per se.
That said, if you're in the mood for a few quick drinks in an elegant, modern, upscale place in SoMA, St. Regis would rank high on your short list.
Their spa is super relaxing, too. I love how the pool is practically deserted during the day. You can have lunch sent to the poolside, lounge around, and sip cocktails in complete privacy. The place is always tidy, clean, and comfortable. Soothing to just think about it!

"are you on a blind date?"

"no, just blind. thanks," i replied.
my friends were madly waving their arms at me for five long mins before i finally spotted them - they were seated directly in front of my view.
well spaced bar seats. check
low comfy seats to get cozy with a honey. check
hot and attentive bartenders. check

all and all, a nice interior and setting for a chic rendez vous.
i'm still a hipper xyz girl but i'll come here to glam it up.

A hotel has many parts, no?
If there's a midday business meeting, awards ceremony, motivational seminar, aptitude test, bar mitzvah party, product demonstration, or chicken pageant in one of the ballrooms, go, just go. It's worth it just for the spread they lay out. The coffee is good, tea comes in little wire strainers, eggs are fluffy, the bathrooms have an attendant and a wicker basket you can throw your hand towels in, and even the grapefruit juice is fresh. The conference rooms are clean, light, and stylishly dignified, with good seats and A/V. Plus you can stuff your pockets full of pens and danishes on the way out to justify the admission price.

I had the pleasure of staying here for a week while I was in between apartments. They literally had to drag me out of my room screaming and crying. EVERY single detail is perfection.
They have mini bottles of Laurent Perrier in the fridge. The bathroom has a sliding window that opens up to the room so you can see the INCREDIBLE view while in the tub. The staff is so accommodating they will do ANYTHING you ask. The bed is so comfy- twice when I didn't hear my wake up call they actually sent someone to the room to check to see if I was OK. (Thank GOD because I would have missed work!). They have a remote control that controls EVERYTHING.
I really really really really REALLY hope I get a chance to stay here again, this is truly the mother ship.
Best hotel in San Francisco. Hands down. If for no other reason because my room had a glass-walled shower stall with a rainforest shower head.
And because the staff will walk you up to your room when you first arrive.
And because there's a door bell for each room (because apparently knocking is so Holiday Inn).
And because the soaking tub opens up to views of SOMA and the south San Francisco hills.
And because there's a beside remote control that controls the drapes. And the lighting. And the radio. And the phone. And the alarm clock. I played with this gadget for 30 minutes when I first got into the room like it was Christmas morning, making the 2 sets of blinds go up and down from my bed.
I think you get the idea. The St. Regis doesn't mess around.
I loved my stay here. I stayed over the weekend and it was a wonderful experience. The room was spacious and very comfortable. And I even had a partial view, which was spectacular. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel staff was very friendly. I would definitely stay here again if I decide to stay in the city over the weekend.
I worked at the St. Regis for one of our company's quarterly sales meetings.
Inside the rooms they have the coolest wide-screen flat panel TV, a touch screen LCD by the bed that allows you to control the curtains, lights, call for butler service and the bathrooms are feature both a shower and a tub.
Our meals were catered by the hotel, and the waiting staff was very attentive and accommodating. The food was fabulous, I had a lunch of short ribs and monk-fish. Both were extremely tasty.
We were able to call the staff on the smallest of details. One night we requested the butler bring up toothpaste for 2 people. They butler service came up with 2 packets of toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash. I was in awe. Another of our coworkers was chauffeured in the hotel's Bentley that she thought was a great treat.
It really did seem that our high expectations were easily met by St. Regis, and they even managed to surprise us by exceeding those same expectations quite consistently.
Overnight valet parking is about 50 bucks a night

Okay, so one of my fellow Washingtonians was visiting and managed to get a room at the St. Regis. I must say it was pretty damn impressive. I only stayed here one night, but I'll make it a point to come back.
The rooms were absolutely great! There is a large soaking tub, separate shower and double sinks in the bathroom. The beds are huge and have really soft cotton bedding. There are 2 LCD TVs in the room, one in the bathroom and one in the living/bedroom area. There are also electric remote control blinds so you don't have to get up from bed =)
The only complaint i had was the noise! I'm not sure if the pipes are old and rusty, or the walls are just cheaply thin, but i was awoken twice to what sounded like bad pipes and construction.
In the great journey of life, one is often at the mercy of parental figures for the first decade and a half or so of existence.
You have little awareness of the fact that you have "free will" and your parents pretty much make most of your decisions for you. From what you eat, to what you wear, to pretty much how you spend your time.
Many parents often use this time to take their children on far off vacations to crazy places that they will barely remember. Oftentimes, these places will be ones that are infinitely more fun after the child has reached the age of 21. But, the parents must fulfill the expectation of going on "trips" and "vacations" to fun spots with the kids during the prime of their innocence before they start a) hating their parents or b) become reclusive and hide in their shells.
My grandparents had a ritual of taking myself and my 12 cousins to various places while growing up, and they chose some very fancy places. Of course, this tended to spoil me - I found the service that these places gave simply an "expectation" as in, whenever I would stay in some kind of hotel, I expected that they would all act the same. My expectations developed into what were, ultimately, the same expectations as my grandparents.
So, going to the St. Regis Hotel, I was expecting a very nice place with good food and service.
Oh boy, was I surprised.
This place is the absolute pinnacle of customer service. I stayed three nights for a work meeting and interacted with the hotel events staff pretty much all day every day. Martina, the person responsible for our group, was absolutely amazing. Anything we could ever hope for was fulfilled. The staff noticed us slouching one day and offered to get us cappucinos (at a price, of course.) From turning the temperature up, to down, to left, to right fifty times an hour - there were no complaints.
The food was absolutely amazing and I stuffed myself with the sandwiches they gave us on the third day - roast beef and some kind of sweet mustard, turkey and something else awesome, and ham with spread-on insanity.
The bar is great - furniture is a little small, but an amazing atmosphere and very approachable. I got hammered and ended up roaming around outside for a while as I stared at expensive cars rolling up and pampered folks stepping out. Here I was, early 20's corporate tag-along enjoying the amenities of a place where the mayor of San Francisco lived. Oh yes.
One thing - don't have them make copies for you. Go to the Staples that is a block down the road. You will pay about 1000% less if you do it yourself (I'm serious.) Also, there is a 20/night garage just up the block also if you don't want to pay the $50/night Valet charge.
Sadly, internet is not free, something along the lines of 15 bucks a day. For the price of this place you'd think they would at least include that. Oh, and also, there are all-in-one fax/copier/printers in every room. Be warned though, you won't be able to use it unless you have administrator access to your computer. For you corporate types, that may be a helpdesk call....

What a place to call "home" for 5 days!!!
Undoubtedly the Schmanciest hotel I've ever stayed in. The Mansion on Forsythe Park in Savannah, GA was pretty fabulous, but this place just put luxury over the top.
Upon arrival our car was valeted, our bags loaded out by the bellman while we checked in. The process was smooth as silk...thank GOD, as it had been 12 hours since we left our house...with a 2y.o. in tow! Needless to say we were exhausted.
We were shown to our gasp-worthy room and told that the butler (yes, I DID say BUTLER) would be with us shortly to orient us with its amenities. These included: an entertainment center with cable and a flat screen TV; an LCD touch control panel to control everything in the room: lighting, draperies, blackout shades, climate, phone settings...you name it; KILLER views of the city; Big closets (nicely tucked away from the sleeping area) with internal lights that illuminate upon opening the doors and a lovely mini bar and snack closet); luxurious bathroom with a super-deep tub with double doors that could be opened into the room, separate rain shower, another flat-screen TV, pocket doors between the room and the WC and rest of the bathroom, incredibly fluffy towels, robes and slippers and hotel toiletries that were actually REALLY NICE (I actually took these home with me...I never do that). They'd also provided us with a crib for the kid as well as a lovely care package of baby-toiletries. They also presented us with custom-printed cards that contained our room# and private phone and fax #s. Apparently new #s are issued to every new guest for privacy purposes.
The place seemed like it would be the kind to contain a very affected and snooty staff...not even a little. I don't think I've ever encountered a friendlier or more helpful hotel staff. Everyone smiled and greeted us by name upon entry and exit of the hotel. I don't really know how to describe the experience except for "stunning".
Sadly, I never got to visit the spa, but the boy and I had a couple gos in the pool. The pool. Huge, fluffy towels rolled and stacked into pyramids everywhere; comfy wicker lounge furniture, including huge circular swivel loungers piled with pillows; huge picture windows with gorgeous views of the city. The most beautiful and serene pool area I think I've ever seen - until my 2 y.o entered. Luckily both times we went we were the only guests in there. But how I would've loved to have gone to the spa then retreated to the lovely pool area to have a lovely sushi lunch delivered to me....*sigh*. A mommy can dream...
It's a good thing this trip was on someone else's dime (husband at a business conference...we just tagged along) 'cause I KNOW we could never afford to stay at a place like this out of pocket. But how fun to, every once in a while, see how the other side lives...and pretend to be a member. And oh, do they live well. It is said money can't buy you love...but the goods and services it CAN buy sure don't suck.
I'm REALLY looking forward to coming back next year!

This is the best hotel that I have ever stayed in.
I wanted to stay here but couldn't afford their prices. So I went to hotwire.com and booked a room in the area. Imagine my excitement when it turned out to be the St. Regis! I was thrilled and still had $$ to spend on my trip!
The rooms were so comfortable. The bar was pretty swanky (and expensive). And the neighborhood was the best! Right in the middle of all the big shopping areas and a huge park across from the hotel.
We traveled outside of the hotel for breakfast on Day 2 b/c we realized how pricy it was. And tons of deals to be had throughout SF.
Hope you enjoy your stay!

The spa there is the bomb! Use the sauna, pool, and locker room before and after your treatment for as long as you want. I usually just hang out for a couple of hours. Gez, you even get free champange during your visit.
Very cool transluent colored tile work in the steam room. White leather sitting areas by the pool and excellent view of SFMOMA while you swim.

Ooh la la!
I attended a private party for a friend's birthday held at Vitrine but since they cleared the restaurant for the party, I think it more appropriate to review the hotel itself. From the space to the food to the service, everything about that evening was beautiful and gracious! The cheese and appetizer spread was so tasteful and complete that picky food snobs like my sister and me could not find single thing to criticize. The wines selected for the evening were outstanding. Service was top-notch.
Toward the end of the evening, a friend wanted to taste my pinot so I poured some of it in his now empty riesling glass. When one of the servers came around to refill his glass with the white wine, he quickly downed the red and held out his glass for a refill (we're classy like that). Without a word, the server quickly left the room and returned with a clean glass, filled it with a generous pour and handed it to my friend and took away his old glass. I admire people with standards.
After the event, some of us continued the party at the bar in the lobby which turned out to be a great place to hang out - it's spacious and modern but also comfortable and inviting. It has a great vibe. Even though I have not seen a guest room there, I'm sure it'll exceed my expectations. I would definitely stay here if I ever needed a room in the city.

For God's freakin' sake, it's the St. Regis. Yeah, OK, 5 Stars.
I am on the road 100 days a year and am very lucky to have a company with a generous travel policy. Therefore, I've been able to stay at some very, very nice hotels over the years.
This, however, probably ranks at the very top of the list.
i not going to go into how they will do anything you want them to do for you, cause you've already heard about that. And the cool little touch screen control panel in every room is just over-the-top, yes.
Somehow - just somehow - they manage to get EVERYTHING perfect.
The room is perfect - chic, but not overly modern.
The service is perfect.
The room service makes you want to stay in.
The cocktails are mixed so well that they make you want to take up alcoholism as a hobby.
I asked the bultler for toothpaste.
He asked if I had sensitive teeth.
"Sometimes.", I said.
He returned with a small tube of Sensodyne.
You can't pay for this type of service.
Oh wait, yes you can. And, boy oh boy, will you pay a hefty sum.
I must say that I've had the pleasure of staying here with my bf for a night and this place is amazing. The room was amazing. The motorized remote contolled window blinds were amazing. The deep luxurious tub in the glamorous this-is how-the-stars-live bathroom was amazing. The heavenly bed was I've Died and Gone to Heaven amazing. Then the cocktails at the amazing bar downstairs were simply amazing.
Sure, in the end the price for all this was equally amazing too. But you only live once. So be amazing for Godsake.

The hotel bar-
I'll keep this short and sweet. The drinks are delicious, in wide selection and reasonably priced, the bartenders charming and polite, and the snack foods free and plentiful. Even the bar/lobby is beautifully decorated and designed! The St. Regis is great downstairs, and I'm sure it's even better upstairs. I have yet to experience that part...
Definitely worth stopping by when bar hopping in SoMa.

I threw a fundraiser here last night as a consultant for a non profit. The St. Regis exceeded all expectations. They managed to get our ballroom up to par with all our requests and staging and plans and their lighting, AV and sound consultant went above and beyond to make our dream of having a center stage (hard to do with the wires and lights in the middle of a ball room) so that our performer Kimberley Locke (American Idol fame) could sing comfortably and be held in the most flattering light. We had an extensive menu of appetizers passed all night, along with a pasta and pizza bar and everyone raved about it!
Planning an event for 400-500 people anytime is stressful, but at the end of the day, the place and event looked amazing and it was all due to the staff of the St. Regis. Thank you Todd Outhouse and Paul and their staff!!!
In addition the suite we had was amazing, with the view, the amenities, and the staff that came with it. I felt like a celebrity in there with the luxury bottled water, high thread count sheets, flat screen TVs and the wine and champagne in the suite.
My new favorite hotel.

I've only been to the bar, so this review is based on that. Was here for a friends birthday post drinking party and I must say, if you want a swanky hotel bar alternative to the W, this is it. Very elegant setting and very NYC style, fancy drinks and prices. I remember having some sort of cucumber based cocktail that freaked everyone out but I found it pretty tasty. Great space where you can lounge and hang with a group of up to 10 comfortably.

It's 80 degrees and sweltering in Union Square and I've already checked out the new Barney's store, leaving disappointed knowing I'll need to find myself a daddy in order buy anything in there.
Why not replace the thirst for extravagance with a milder one and quench it in a chez cool (literally) atmosphere?
I took my pal Karen to the bar in the lobby of the St. Regis for a cocktail. The place is way cool and it even impressed my pal visiting from LA. The couches are comfortable and you can just lounge, chill, and nibble on complimentary wasabi balls, cheese crackers, tamarind almonds while washing them down with a cosmo made with fresh lime juice, level vodka, pomegranate juice, and ginger beer.
I can only imagine what the rooms are like!

The bar at the St. Regis is my favorite downtown/SOMA booze joint at present.
1) They hire cocktail waitresses here based on customer service experience, poise, grace and manners, not looks. This isn't to say that the ladies aren't lovely (they are), but they are not the skinny little waifs with a truck-load of attitude one frequently encounters in expensive bars.
2) Old Raj gin
3) Usually good, chill soundtrack
4) No noisy kids
It is very pricey, no doubt. And, yes, there is the usual compliment of high-income plastic people one associates with expensive hotel bars.
But... fantastic service and Old Raj...how can I resist?

I have been to Ame, but never had the opportunity to stay at St. Regis hotel. It's so hidden that when I visualized that area, I find myself searching on google map just to make sure I know where it is.
The first impression in the lobby was, wow, swanky! The decor is sleek and modern, with narrow black fireplaces subtly flickering. It's warm and romantic and inviting. I would definitely come back just for a drink.
Staff was friendly. Room was gorgeous. We had a corner suite that faces South, with a spectacular view. The decor was simple and beautiful, but full of nice details. Like the little cacti along the window. Or the completely hidden closet that stores a DVD player and a fax machine! Only if my work would send me here to work, I promise I will never spend all my time on yelp again!
Because the hotel asked us to change rooms, they sent us some complimentary champagne, which was a nice gesture. I guess considering our room was a costly $1100, free champagne is nothing. But still, they didn't really have to.
So if you ever want to splurge and enjoy downtown luxury living for a night, this would be a perfect place.

Matt was about to attend the Yelp-elite party, but he couldn't find the damn place. So he landed at this hotel and with any luck they should have at least a wi-fi access. Matt asked the concierge for internet access, and he directed Matt to the "Business-Executive" section for "free" internet access for all hotel guests. Matt did get lost finding the computer-room in this very nice downtown hotel, and when he found the room, there are 3 computers equipped with internet access. So Matt logged-on to his account to "you-know-what" and searched the damn address to the party.
Matt would like to thanks to the hotel for free internet access. Without the invention of the internet, Matt would never have found the Harlot with an ordinary Yellow-page phone-book. Isn't technology wonderful?

I got to spend a week at the St. Regis in various capacities (working, eating, sleeping, drinking, etc.) and got to see every aspect of the hotel from the storage closets, staff elevators and basement parking all the way to the luxury suites and sampling all the in-house kitchens and catering.
The staff is great, actually excellent. The only negative I can say is that security is a little tight, but hey, this is one of the nicer hotels in this part of town. The front desk clerks and concierge are all extremely sweet and helpful, going wayyyyy beyond the call of duty to ensure that their guests and their amenities are all taken care of 100%.
The hotel's interior decor is pretty stunning. The main halls and rooms have very sleek and chic clean lines, with just hints of abstraction: the iridescent chandeliers and corner statuettes, for example. The bar/lounge is cozy yet modern, and restaurant ("Ame") is decent mid/high-end Japanese fusion.
The meeting rooms are exquisite, actually some of the nicest I've ever seen and the lighting is actually halfway decent which is astonishing considering the space and layout. The chandeliers are insane, I can stare at them hours on end.
The executive premier suite was equally amazing, the foyer/closet room is a little modern with cold stone-ish facing hiding recessed push-away closet doors, until it opens up into the hall way leading into the living space. Amenities included 42" plasma TV, bedside guest digital assistants (computerized phone, lighting, media and shade control all at your fingertips), ultra-fine Pratesi linen, and free wifi. The room interior features was very soft Bella Crema marble and Mozambique wood doors. Warm leather walls, art installations and other design amenities serve to create an elegant and welcoming sense of arrival. Each guest room features a creme Barcelona bench at the foot of the bed. Bathrooms are appointed with a vibrant 13" LCD television and features deep soaking tubs with a resort-style shuttered window between the bathroom and bedroom, frosted glass-enclosed stone shower with a mounted rainfall shower-head, and a detachable handheld shower. Executive Premier rooms feature a spacious over-sized work area with large writing desk and a comfortable chair. Guests have access to three telephones with personalized voice mail, a customized phone/fax number and a fax/copy/scanner/printer machine. I copy pasted a lot of this I bet you can't tell LOL.
The Hotel St. Regis is ultra-romantic and super chic. Very highly recommended.

Beautiful, decadent, perfect little bar/ lounge... I just don't belong.
i work 2 blocks away so i've been to this place quite a few times for fancier work happy hours.
The service is attentive, the atmosphere is warm, and they have these awesome munchies that they put on your bar table while you wait for drinks.
I like it better than XYZ because it feels classier but also less pretentious.
Beautiful suites that have their own butler! Great decor in conjunction with quality bath products and fine linens equals an unparalleled hotel experience.
I felt like i was house sitting in someones very nicely decorated apartment. The 2 flat screens, huge shower, Kohler tub, and Pratesi bed linens! Oy Vey!
Watch out for those $22 cans of cashews though. A drunken rummaging through the minibar can end up seriously costing you!
Can I move in? Please? Can I just come back to take a shower? Or a bath?
This hotel made me feel like Scarlet Johansson in Lost in Translation, except I wasn't lonely and depressed. Ok, what I am trying to say is that the St. Regis reminds me of the hotel in the movie: dark, sleek, quiet hallways, beautiful big bathroom that opened into the rest of the room (so I could look over downtown even in the bathtub), and fancy everything else.
In the 15 hours I was there, I managed to take two shows and a bubble bath. I used the oversized bath towels, wrapped up in the fluffy robes, slathered on the fancy-smelling lotion, and oh yeah, jumped around on the giant bed while singing along to Madonna.
I loved the black-out curtains, which were controlled by the touch-screen thing by the bed. I loved view from the 19th floor. I loved the giant bed that I sunk into. I loved the room service in the middle of the night. I loved the Vera Wang china. I loved the real silver....
Please, can I just move in?
The bar is great, and they were really nice about us placing a huge food order 8 minutes before the kitchen closed. And they let us hang out there as long as we wanted without making us feel like we were overstaying out welcome, even though i think they all just wanted to go home. And I learned that if you put your hands too close to the open fire strip thing, it will automatically shut off so you don't burn your drunk self.
Oh! I can't believe I almost forgot this! I ordered a Hendrick's martini, which should be served with cucumber and not a twist or, heaven forbid, olives. But they got it right, and served my martini with tree tiny peeled slices of cucumber. Awesome. Totally.
The food was delicious. I don't have much experience with room service, but the few times I had it, I have always been disappointed: either they don't deliver late enough at night, or the food is terrible, or it is depressing in some way. But I would have this room service every day. Even in the middle of the night, there was a great selection of food available. My gnocci was awesome. The coffee hit the spot. And the chocolate ice cream was amazingly rich and delicious. Plus the guy who brought it couldn't have been nicer.
I got a taste of the good life and I'll never be quite content back in the real world.

Stayed here for 5 days in the fall. Wonderful, courteous, non-pushy service. Room was small in terms of square footage, but modern, well-appointed, with nice high ceilings. Bed quite comfortable. Furniture and appointments were simple, modern, new, and tasteful. The computerized climate / blinds /lighting control is a bit gimicky but worked fine. Ate at the breakfast place - Vitrine - which was quite good and had excellent coffee. Did not eat at Ame. Nice bar downstairs. Great indoor pool. The location was close to just about everything we needed. Would love to stay at again.
I love, love, love upscale hotel bars. That's why I picked this place for my birthday night, and it didn't disappoint. The atmosphere is nice, and the drinks were really good. Pricey? I guess, but then I'd rather pay $14 for a very good drink than $75 for a very good dinner. You know where my priorities lie!
We had the garlic fries. Tasty, but we asked for ketchup (is that a faux paux at the St. Regis?) and that made them a lot better! We were having such a good time that we canceled our dinner reservation and just hung out there. We ordered the cheese plate, which ended up being a little stingy for the price. Of course, I'm not a cheese plate expert so maybe it was a normal size.
Definitely I'll be back to this place when I want to feel fancy and relax with a nice cocktail!

Cognitive Linguistics fascinate me. Simply changing the structure and order of words can lead to vastly different outcomes in perception and intent of those words. For instance, you are at the St. Regis Hotel for a very nice holiday party and like most very nice holiday parties the open bar has decided to grace us with her majesty. Does one disgrace the open bar by asking for a shot of tequila? Absolutely not ---one calmly approaches this shrine to fermentation and asks for a Tequila neat. Let's use this example to further explore the wonderment that is cognitive linguistics.
Shot of Tequila = 18 year old girls in Tijuana having cheap Tequila poured down their throat with the likely outcome of lost panties and low self-worth the following morning in Mexico.
VS.
Tequila Neat = 32 year old women drinking fine Tequila delivered by a very suave 30 year old man who understands how you ask for Tequila at the St. Regis with the likely outcome of lost panties and low-self worth the following morning in San Francisco.
Same drink, completely different framing of the words, of course the outcome remains the same but one must be mindful of their environment, one must adapt to the situation they are in, one must respect the St. Regis banquet policy of no shots, and one must remember to call what's her name and tell her you found her panties in your inner suit pocket.
Five stars for the very professional St. Regis and their staff.

this is one of my favorite hotels to have happy hour at. i do have to say that the ambiance is very tasteful and the bar tenders are very sociable but becareful as they are also just as flirtatious. *giggle*
drinks are a bit on the pricy side but then again... if you are a lady, drinking a $12 martini in front of a good looking man is worth it. had the fries and the kobe steak a few times... cant complain. =)

Shmancy happy hour and tasty Ame bar bites. The servers were actually a lot more casual than I thought they'd be. It was nice.
