I gotta give a shoutout to the team here last weekend. I was nearby working and had only a few seconds to make an online order, then drive over to pick it up, and get back to what I was working on.

The online ordering process was super easy, and it keeps you updated on what the status of your order is. As soon as it got to "Building your sandwich" I jumped in the car, and when I walked in the door they looked at me, asked if I had a pickup order, confirmed my name, and handed me the bag. In and out of the store in 20 seconds.

I don't know if it's always like this, I can't say what the dine-in experience is like, but I do know that I needed a quick bite and they provided it.

Subway was the convenient choice last weekend, never my choice for most delicious, but I got what I ordered and had the fast meal that the day called for. A win.

It's been a couple of months since my holiday visit and I still can't stop thinking about the place. Maybe it was that I had very low expectations. Maybe it's that I had just done had a long morning and I was hungry for anything. Maybe it's that it's called The Quesadillas and so when I saw it I immediately wanted a quesadilla and that's what they delivered. Whatever the case, it's probably my favorite meal from my recent trip to Tucson.

We came in for a late lunch and ordered a whole spread of tacos and then the namesake cheese-and-tortilla dish. I immediately set to work getting a small sample of every single salsa from the bar--and there are a lot. Not the same typical 4 from every place (the green, the pico, the evil orange, the evil red). Instead, they have a whole host of sauces from a liquid-y pineapple one to variations of all the aforementioned and beyond.

The tacos were sensational. Street style, generously portioned, and I can't pick a fave. But even though I was 3 tacos deep I also went for a quesadilla and boy-howdy, it was greasy, cheesy perfection. I dipped in salsa and devoured and we nearly went back for dinner that very same night.

    • Fast Food, Mexican

      Downtown, Salt Lake City

Look, the original Red Iguana it ain't. But if you want Mexican food and you're at the mall, and that's your expectation, then this will deliver for you. The concept reminds of this movement at airports to bring in beloved local restaurants to offer a taste of their menu to travelers. To say hey, while I'm in Utah I should try this place and here's the chance to say I did.

I've eaten here a couple of times and it's for sure meeting the fast Mexican food needs I have had. Both times I have been downtown before a show, and needed to get something quick before heading over to the theater. It's not failed me there--quick purchase, they assemble your food, and you're grabbing it at the counter and getting on your way.

I've lightened up on the chips and salsa in my life but did try some and they were great. I also had an enchilada and it lived up to every expectation I have of mall enchiladas. You know what you're getting, you get it quick, and you really can't complain.

We stopped in for a quick lunch and to peruse the bakery cases. It's far more suited to the latter, but they do have a pretty simple menu of savory eats so we landed on a couple of sandwiches and a small pumpkin pie.

We weren't the only ones there, and I suspect that's the case a lot of the time. They have a patio and some small indoor seating areas, but it was packed and standing room only indoors on our visit. We waited it out a bit and were able to grab a couple of recently vacated seat after all.

Now, you'll pay a pretty penny (St. George-wise, anyways) for the food, but it seems they're driving to elevate the experience and someone has to pay for those boxes that every single order goes out in. There's a lot of craft that goes into that display case, and though pumpkin pies aren't exactly french patisserie, it's more like a Southern Utah patisserie and I'm here for it. I ain't mad about prices and happy to support someone raising the bakery game in town.

Pretty tasty all the way around. If you're into a little looser pumpkin pie, this is up your alley. I like when they're a little more solid, but this one was still sliceable and got eaten up just the same.

    • Burgers, Fast Food, American

      Downtown, Los Angeles

I rarely go for a second lunch anymore, but I was in LA and working like crazy, so on the days where I had a second to get out the door, I took full advantage. After a small lunch elsewhere, I could feel the burger calling to me, and so I answered.

When in doubt, I try to go with things called "the original" or "the classic" and that's exactly what they have here. The Classic comes with American cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, some caramelized onions, and their own special Burger Shop sauce. It's not over the top (there are other menu items for that) but it's everything you want in a simple (but don't dare call it basic) burger.

This location is a food hall, so there are lots of other options around. I ordered and had my food in less than 10 minutes. Served up hot, only a little bit messy, and the mix of melty cheese, sauce, and onion was just what you want when you're getting a first-or second-lunch.

I just went sandwich only, but they do prepare a fry if you want a side. I wasn't going to push my luck, I just got the burger, ate it, and reveled in the full belly of a double-lunch day.
