This place still bangs. Queso con hierbas still slaps. Patatas Bravas changed up a little bit - not as good as it used to be. Used to be the patatas with the two dips you could do--now they put the dip on top for you which is sort of a step back.
Pictured: Croquetas are unchanged and fantastic. The Bistec con Pimienta. Fire. And something we haven't tried before: vieras y tocino: seared scallops & pork belly, house-made blueberry chutney. Blueberry chutney wasn't overpowering and not as weird as I thought it would be. Scallops and pork belly both cooked to perfection.
I love this place.

Thanks for the great review, Sam. Glad to hear we still got it!
My wife and I had been to San Chez multiple times. I've been going here since college on occasions -- birthdays or special events for brunch only. I've written reviews about their breakfast empañadas before and they're still super solid.
This is the first time I've ever been for dinner. I'll preface this with the fact I've had their dinner food options only once before and that was for my rehearsal dinner this past summer for my wedding. It was fantastic. It was socially distanced and semi-private in their upstairs balcony area, but the food was incredible. Everyone had an amazing time, the food came out perfectly, the drinks came out smoothly, and the service and attentiveness to detail made everything stress-free. Although it is "tapas" style (which means you need to multiply the amount of tapas you order), the event planner hit it right on the money with her estimate given the number of people we had.
We went for dinner for my wife's birthday and it was nothing short of amazing. Same experience as the rehearsal dinner -- great food, great service, and great prices when you go at happy hour! You really just have to end up trying everything since most of it is bite-sized pieces of food, so you might have to try and come back one or two more times.
Since the food is bite-sized, I'll provide a bite-sized overview of the food we got:
Queso Con Hierbas: So good. Have to get it. I don't like goat cheese, but with the pesto, roasted red peppers, and slightly buttered and toasted bread -- it's a must get.
Patatas Bravas: Good. Solid. Same potatoes you get if you go for brunch. Never fails and the aioli is what keeps it elite.
Croquetas: Wife is vegetarian so we got this -- pleasantly surprised. It almost melts in your mouth. As someone who is an avid meat eater, this one stood out to me the most as something I normally wouldn't order, but I liked it.
Empanadas: They're filled with different stuff for the breakfast empañadas, but the dinner portion is just as good. And you get more aioli and salsa.
Bistec Con Pimienta: Grilled steak. Good-sized portion with some tortellini underneath it. I got this for myself so it was great -- might be small if you're splitting it with someone.
I think we got a ton of more stuff during the rehearsal dinner, but it was hard to focus on what was coming out and what was being consumed. We definitely need to go back and try different tapas, but overall a great place for dinner and for brunch!
Big place that just got renovated, so there's a lot of open seating, but it's a zoo on the weekend for breakfast and brunch.
Both times I've been here, I've gotten the breakfast empanadas with gravy. Gravy is extra, but it's dry otherwise, so I definitely recommend it. Still a Mexican place first, but other menu items seem to serve others well. They also have a house drip that is solid, and apparently their smoothies are up to par with real fruit.
They don't give you wait times here, so you're in the dark if you're putting your name down. It's odd, but just play it by ear. They have two-story seating, so honestly, it's not that bad even though it might seem like a long wait.
Awesome little Korean market/convenience store that sells all different kinds of frozen Korean dishes, fresh kimchi, rice, and other condiments like plum sauce or soy sauce--sort of a Meijer "World Foods" aisle on roids. They also have a ton of Korean snacks at a fair price.
They also have a food court that has great 자장면 and other dishes. Very authentic and fairly priced for what's available in the area. Korean food isn't all AYCE Korean BBQ--there's other dishes and I think Seoul Market does a good job of showing off those traditional dishes rather than a KBBQ, bulgogi, or street food like K-Pocha (which I'm excited to try), but that would be more like corn dogs and 떡볶이.
Good authentic Korean food with a place to sit and eat as well.
Awesome spot in downtown Ada. Great food, great atmosphere, and is the perfect "upscale" spot in the area compared to Mudpenny or Garage Bar.
We ordered the potato and leek pizza, which has Leelanau Cheese Raclette, potatoes, leeks, cream, rosemary, and black pepper. That was incredible. Such an odd pairing, but works so well together. We also got the pork meatballs with garlic tomato sauce--such a great appetizer as well and a great way to start if you're looking for something more substantial than the garlic focaccia. Lastly, we got the spaghetti alla carbonara--nothing special. It had a great flavor, but I would try a different pasta.
Overall, a great experience. Super busy with a reservation on a weeknight, so make sure to get one in! Other than that, the bar is great and the place feels like a blast from the past. Will definitely be back!
Went to Scholar with the wife for a drink after Valentine's Day. Service was quick, the new space was done well, and the ambience was different on every floor. Still can't get the Gardella's vibes out of the head, and there seemed to be lingering smell of the basement, but overall, a great rehaul of the space. Drinks were good, made well, and would have to try it for dinner sometime.
Nothing that wow'd me as a new spot, but nothing that was bad either.
Don't know how this place has 3.5 stars. It's hard to find good Korean Fried Chicken in the Bay Area despite there being a large Asian population.
Good food, excellent service, and good atmosphere.
The chicken has great flavor. It's crispy, juice, and perfectly seasoned with the right amount of heat and sweetness. The unique spices and seasoning creates a great flavor profile. Try the garlic style and the hot spicy if you want to branch out for different flavors, but their signature style is my favorite!
Their appetizers aren't worth it though. Just get some McDonald's fries on the way home if you're taking them for takeout. The chicken is the star of the show, not the french fries or cheese balls.
