Man..... where do I begin? It was one of those rare occasions - a Monday morning that I didn't have to work. I decided to make it special and grab breakfast somewhere awesome: To Yelp I went, I found the top rated breakfast joint and set on the journey from Hopewell,Va to Richmond with my destination being "Surrounding Counties".

Ray greeted me as I came in and right away I knew this place was special. The decor is great, you have turntables, fresh flowers and a tapestry. Decor aside- this place has got it. The coffee here is amazing. They have both drip and espresso options to satisfy your inner coffee snob. (Mine is hard to please)

Ok- so you might be thinking "Thats awesome bro - so what about the food?" Well- let's be clear, it's amazing. These guys have the hard to find Kilache- it's like a donut with savory fillings. Delicious ! Not into donuts filled with deliciousness? No problem- check out the picks of the cheeses and turkey bacon grit bowl. Guys- breakfast in Richmond just got a lot better for me - give these cool people a shot and you will end up a fan!

Till then- keep it classy and brunch on!

This place is closed- it was the best taco joint in the area . The owners of Waves sandwich shop and this place are the same. Sadly the only place to get these flora now is a Waves sandwich shop on Tuesday's.

If you don't have your wits about you YOU COULD MAKE A HUGE MISTAKE and drive right by this hidden gem off of interstate 95. It's country, it's hometown, it's delicious - it's Roxy's!

I stopped in on my way down to FL from Va. I needed some nourishment and I found it at Roxy's. On Sunday you can get breakfast 'till 4PM . They do a French toast combo with 2 eggs 2 meats and French toast one of 3 ways - grilled, fried, or stuffed. Being indecisive- I told the waitress to make it a surprise.

While I am waiting for my food, a bit about the atmosphere. This place is warm and friendly and has a great vibe to it. It has a simple clean country look that communicates that all are welcome . Super family friendly and a great place to gather after church or whatever !

The food was excellent! I think the pictures say it better than I ever could. I ended up getting the stuffed French toast. A perfect French toast with a layer of ricotta cheese topped with strawberry purée with another piece of French toast to top it off.

      NOTE-
      Don't leave without dessert!

As usual, I was pulled off the road by a sign...

This one said " as seen on diners drive ins and dives". I am a fan of the show so I though what the hell, I'm going in.

I went HAM- no really... I went ham and I also got a quarter bird of their fried chicken. While 8 wait for my food, I will mention a couple things . This place is definitely the only thing poppin off in this sleepy little town. The restaurant is well spaced out and clean and the service staff is very attentive. The decor reminds me of a Boston Market - country chic- with the loud country music kickin in the background, there is no doubt you are in the south.

I ordered the Denver Club which is supposed to be huge and some fried chicken with collards and onion rings. I wanted to sample what they are famous for. It didn't make sense that they would have enough notariety for the Tv show but such poor Yelp ratings...

So the fried chicken was not really crispy but the flavors were on point . The collards were great but had a little hint of sweetness to it, which was weird for collards but not bad, kinda awesome actually. The real winner was the onion rings which were a "side". Those things were hand battered and so good - so good. The club was delicious and mad the old school way with no shortcuts. I would love to check this place put for breakfast some time. Bottoms line guys- this place was a great value - I got out with two full meals and a drink under 30 bucks and the food - while not SUPER Awesome- was pretty damn good. I think some of the negative reviews are because the joint falls short of the hype from the sign. The fact it was on Diners Drive ins and Dives has signage that is as large as the restaurant's name ...

But don't get me wrong- good food, a definite go.

So while I was exploring the area I came across a sign for brunch with an arrow pointing down the road. Brunch is my weakness and the sign said all the right things.... I found myself walking through the doors of the "Chef's Kitchen" moments later.

The restaurant had recently started taking inside seating guests . Tables were spaced appropriately and staff had masks and it appears busing and cleaning procedures all took customer safety and COVID 19 in mind. I started with coffee and a water- coffee is excellent by the way . I settled on the chicken sandwich at the recommendation of my server .

The sandwich is undoubtedly delicious. It was a little odd at first because it was very moist yet majorly crispy. At first I thought it was undercooked but as I dove in I realized that instead of a chicken breast- the cut was thigh meat which has a higher fat content . Genius!

I really enjoyed my visit here - the service and quality is on point y'all. Want to skip to the end of the review?? Ok

Green light this place - Food here is excellent and the craftsmanship and thought is evident in the menu. You won't be disappointed, and if you are, perhaps you are just mean.
