Same as it ever was. Still the best fish tacos in town, still the best deal on adult beverages at Happy Hour. Despite the 'rona, they are still keeping the quality up. Kudos to the crew here!
This just shot to the top of our Happy Hour list. I know, you thought it was just breakfast, right? We had just had some HH "nibbles " at Foster's Kitchen, and were ready to move to the next whiskey bar. FK is good, but their HH is no bargain.
I visited the ladies convenience, and went by another bar, which shared it. Two men were at the bar eating good looking plates, and after questioning, I found out it was the upstairs of Lava Java. Huh?
Turns out they started serving dinner and HH last year. The menu looked great, so we settled into our choice of ocean view seats.
Wine specials extended to a Sauvignon Blanc for $6, and the food rocked. Two large taro wrapped tacos, with gorgeously grilled slabs of fresh ono. DH had a BIG juicy burger, no sliders here. This was the fourth in my continuing quest for the best Kona HH , and I'm not going any further!
This place is a little gem in the narrow ethnic market that is Framingham. Admittedly, it doesn't look like much at first glance, to those of us used to big shiny stores. Think of it as a middle eastern market disguised as a convenience store. Still, persist, and look more closely, especially with the help of the enthusiastic owner. You'll find spiced feta, multiple options for pita, from every different origin, canned fried eggplant and sauce (melts in your mouth), basturma and all kinds of frozen sweet baked goods.
I bought par-baked felafel patties (Lebanese style, with favas as well as chickpeas), which we loved, and a frozen, ready to bake potato boureg, ditto. I'll have to go back for the frozen version barbe, which I must try.
They have the staples to save you a trip into Watertown, and deep rewards for deep dives.
Standing by my review. Once again, had great fish tacos, Aussie Open on TV, and probably the best band we've heard there. A little loud, ask for a table back aways.
One place DH and I can agree on!
Hey, ya know what? This place didn't suck! I mean, I did not expect much from a grill tucked into a resort complex, but the setting is nice, and the food good enough that we plan a return visit. Reasonable, too.
My fish tacos were fresh, just cooked marlin(I think). Nice slab of fish, lightly seasoned. One of the three made a good lunch the next day. DH had some kind of chicken wrap. I just asked him what kind, and he said, "Very good!" Oh well! I do know he ate half for lunch the next day, happily.
Beware your wallet! Walked in, I ordered the melanzana pizza. $10.95on the menu at the counter. Rang up at $13.95. When I questioned it, Iwas told the menus were all wrong including the menu board, and that all prices were subject to change. This is not a website that hadn't been updated, or an old take-out menu sitting in my kitchen drawer. This was the menu board in the restaurant. So I guess, you order and then it's Russian roulette whatever you end up paying. Really awful attitude really awful customer service.
Ya know, we went early on a Saturday night, and the issues just kept rolling in...
Since they don't take reservations, we had called to see how busy things were. They told us things were slow because of the rain.
What they did NOT tell us over the phone, so we could have prepared, was that their card machine had not been working for a few days, so they were only taking cash . However, I would not be deterred, went to the cash machine, and scored the funds...
Got NO attention from the waiters when I came back, but finally flagged one down to get a glass of wine (Think I deserved it!) We ordered our app at the same time..."Oh, we're out of that, a big group of Nigerians came in this afternoon and ate them all." Oh yeah, throw the Nigerians under the bus.
We ordered. And waited. And waited. Another glass of wine. Trust me, you better order appetizers here, because you'll drink yourself into a stupor otherwise....
Interestingly, a party that seemed to know a manager (who we only saw once) came in, and they seemed to get appetizers before the three parties seated before them. They fired up the deep-fryer behind the bar.
Finally, two plates came out, destined for the party who was already seated when we came in. It seems that the kitchen is only capable of firing one order at a time.
When our food finally came, it seemed like someone had fired up the deep-fryer for my pitifully sized grouper steak in the "National Dish". I have to admit, it was still pretty good. But for ALL the time we waited (well over an hour after we placed the order), one could expect the accompanying vegetables (eggplant, sweet potato, etc.) to be fully cooked. No, I really don't like root vegetables al dente. Isn't this something that should have been prepped earlier in the day, since they are part of most dishes?
DH had the citrus-onion sauced chicken, a quarter chicken with plain rice...We were both satisfied with our food; it was good, but not great. I have to admit, the wait really soured us; it's hard to enjoy food when you're that cranky.
