    Hello y'all,

I'm trying to get an idea of how much DJ service usually cost.  We are planning to throw a dance party for about 100 people.  Thanks.

Rates depend on the popularity of said DJ and the amount of equipment he provides to your party.

The average DJ has costed me $200.00 for a 4-6 hour event. Both pre-event, actual event, and post event usage.

Wedding dj cost $400 minimum for 4-6... Includes, decks, cd decks, mixer, a simple PA speakers, and a few lights. It can go up according to what you need as far as speakers goes. Also, if the dj is somewhat reputable it can add to the total.

^ That's pricey, then again I deal with DJs a lot so maybe that's why I have a bias.

I'd charge at least $100 an hour.

I'd like to book you for a 3 minute gig.  Please bring your largest, heaviest speakers, because I want you to be impressive.

^ Giggler, you've automatically made me a fan of Tyra.

Hot on the tables and guitar... sweet Jesus, if only I can meet her sometime heh.

Giggler, trust me I've worked in the nightlife before.

I know DJ talent when I see it. I haven't seen such dope scratching (let alone a female) since the DMC Championships from the 90s.

If everyone, knew what real DJs were all about (minus the Serrato pickings of today), then yes there would be better DJs in clubs. I can't afford such things, since I'm not a power player (yet) but if I did for sure I would hire talent like this. I'm just blessed with working some respectable artists (that includes DJs who are renowned locally or internationally).

On the Tyra links, I see she's actually scratching on somebody's scratches.  The really dope scratching is on the record, and she's just taking advantage of it.  I used to do that, when I was in seventh grade, and people used to be really impressed, but I always felt that I was just cheating.

Mario: Say it ain't so? =O. But she has some kind of genuine transforming technique down, or was all that turntablism just an illusion.

sorry but just about anyone should be able to do what Tyra is doing with one week of scratch training. It's one dimensional. It's scratching 101 at best.

Doug: But for a female, she's not that bad. I've seen others do much less... much much less. So you can't necessarily down play her skill level.

At the same time, the true essence of Dj'ing fell off once Serrato was introduced and Hip Hop became Hip Pop.

Ryan: gender does not play a role when it pertains to assessing DJ skill set. But feel free to have your own opinions. As for me, Tyra's posted video clip was not impressive. It's one dimensional.

Giggler, I'm actually not well connected at all.
The clips of Tyra you've posted weren't impressive..at all. Don't take it personal, just my opinion.

Llama DJs are generally the best, but they charge $2K / hour.

Alpaca DJ's, however only charge $10 / hour.

    Go figure.

"costed?"   do people really use that as a word?
