"I was in week 3 of a 6 week of a solo multi-state tour. I came in with a frayed shifter cable because I had brought the wrong type. The mechanics were great jokers but were all on the ball. I could have done the job myself but since I was tired and going to be headed back out into the middle of nowhere (wrt bicycle shops anyway) I worked with them to make SURE everything was done properly. Now in my final week and the Trek 520 is cruising beautifully. P.s. I used to use STI shifters. A must for racing. I've gone back to down tube shifters. Short cable runs so super crisp shifting. Bullet proof in crashes since the shifter position is "inside" vs exposed. And super light weight. Let's me fly up mountains. Well OK it let's me crawl up a little faster than I otherwise would"
