Southwest Surgical Associates Celebrates 30 Years The last 30 years have been filled with growth, expansion, and challenges that have been met! The physicians of Southwest Surgical Associates are dedicated to providing the Houston and surrounding communities with the high-quality and compassionate care for which they are known. All SWSA surgeons are Board Certified by the American College of Surgeons, and they pride themselves on offering state-of-the art surgical techniques that are minimally invasive to allow for recovery in the shortest time possible. Founded in 1993, Dr. John Fisher and his then partner Dr. Kleinman joined Dr. Tasdemiroghu "Dr. Tas" and Dr. Henry Holle to create Southwest Surgical Associates. Although the others have retired, one founding partner, Dr. Fisher, is still in practice with the group today. The group was named Southwest Surgical Associates since the main office was located at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where Dr. Holle had served as the Chief of Staff for many years. The group expanded to six surgeons in 1995 with the addition of Dr. Robert Hillery (still practicing) and Dr. Wayne Matzelle (retired 2008). Between 1997 and 2001, the group would grow to 10 surgeons with the addition of Dr. Thomas Wylie Moore in 1997 (retired 2019), Dr. Guillermo Ponce de Leon in 1998, Dr. Charles Aramburo in 2000, and Dr. Michael Todd Wood in 2001. The Methodist Sugar Land clinic would also open in 1998...

was told. The office later admitted the estimate was wrong due to an administrative error, but refused any adjustment, compromise, or shared responsibility whatsoever for the mistake. What bothered me most was not even the error itself -- mistakes happen. It was the complete lack of accountability and transparency afterward. I repeatedly asked for clarification and detailed explanations and was largely met with vague answers, conflicting information, and dismissiveness. If you're relying on a pre-surgical estimate from this office to determine whether you can realistically afford a procedure, I would strongly recommend building in a very large cushion. Apparently "100% of your responsibility" can still end up being almost double.
...his office staff: You have to wait on hold for several minutes just for them to initially answer the phone. This is all day, every day. The waiting room in Sugar Land was so full that people would check in at the front desk, then return to their cars to await a text to come back. Others would go to lunch after checking in. It isn't unusual for the doctor to see you 1-2 hours after your scheduled appointment. The office visit scheduler was friendly and professional. However, the surgeon was so overbooked that it took nearly 2 months to get the results of my biopsy. (Thank goodness it wasn't cancer!) The surgery scheduler took a over a week to return multiple phone calls. When she did, she would not talk directly to me but had her message go straight to my voice mail. This just lengthened the communication process. After trying to schedule a simple procedure for over 3 weeks, I just fired the entire practice in frustration. Looking back at other reviews, my experience is very similar to one posted 9 years ago, so nothing has changed since then.
...she said rethink it over the next few days. I requested could they take both she said no. I found out that was her option with me. My sister 6 months later had both removed by different doctor and doesn't have to go thru what I am having to. At 70 I didn't not need new and attractive breasts. She and her office abandoned me after surgery. I did not appreciate her praying on her knees either. If I coulc give a 0 I would.
...after a surgery and they're too busy? They're fired....
...your breast look. In my humble opinion, only the risk of breast cancer doesn't entail removing your breasts. No mention of healthy eating, exercise and habits to prevent breast cancer. She even had her stats wrong, 84% risk at 70, in my case is less than that, so know your numbers. Like I said, the moment I told her I'm not a breast surgery candidate, she swiftly told me that she will no longer offer care to me. So there, as far as I'm concerned, no more putting up with her Jesus call sessions which she deems appropriate. Lady, drop the praying and show you care for your patients' wellbeing over your financial gains. Today was a clear revelation. Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend this doctor to anyone, ever!
...always long wait time to talk to someone!
...I got the bi-lateral mastectomy. That left me with no chemo or radiation! I would highly recommend Dr. Lee!
...AND did an excellent job on my hernia repair. I recommend him highly.
...time. At the time, she was also supposed to send a prescription for antibiotics to my pharmacy, so the abscess would be at least partially reduced prior to surgery. When I stopped at the pharmacy on my way home, they had no record of it. I went to the pharmacy the next day, and they still had no record of it. I called her office and left a message regarding the prescription. Mind you, we're talking about antibiotics, here, not schedule 1 narcotics. There was no return call or even a text. Next day, the same thing. On the third day, I was contacted by my pharmacy that my prescription had been sent. Now, the time of my surgery has changed. This, in and of itself, is not a big deal. The thing is, that date was changed days ago, and her office didn't notify me through any available means. Communication is important. I'm just glad it was me and my minor issue, and not some poor woman needing a biopsy on an unknown mass. I'm lowering my rating because it seems that Dr. Dempsey's office has forgotten that it may be Tuesday to them, but, for their patients, it's potentially the worst day of their lives.
...on me and the care she provided post op was exceptional. Totally recommend her and this place.
...to my wife's GP while I was looking for a GP for insurance and other purposes. It was not a good experience for me. I was treated like an unwanted houseguest and made to feel less-than through the entire visit. Imagine my surprise to find the SWSA staff welcoming and friendly. Dr. Dempsey was warm, but professional, and express serious concern for my condition. She went out of her way to minimize the pain of extracting the fluid from the abscess while ensuring that she cleaned the chamber out fully. Honestly, as I said, I can't speak to the other surgeons, but my experience there was pretty damn good (you know, except for the nipple stabbing).
...a great organization, would and have recommended to others.
...I am thankful to have had such an amazing team!! This Doctor saved my life.
...my account was going to collections...... This was after they ran my insurance, told me how much it would be upfront AND collected that amount when I scheduled the surgery.
...stuff with an almost 5000.00$ bill and they says oops sorry. Have to take it up with them and it's not our problem anymore basically. I'm furious! Beware of you go there.
