York Barber Shop

Stopped in for a shave and hair cut for both my son and me. Great experience, fantastic smells and very nice people. I have no idea what those other bad reviews are for we didn't see that at all. I would recommend. If you don't like the price you can choose others but not get the same experience.

Reputation: While having such a big expectations about this place based on its reputation. I walked out very disappointed about the service I've received, first I got serval small cuts (see pictures) now I'm very concerns about health related hazards because I didn't get after shave or alcohol to sanitize the area / skin cuts.

Lack of attention to detail: professional was too rough, the entire experience was very uncomfortable. Instead of relaxing all I wanted is to leave.

Not what I asked: this is not the haircut I asked for, I asked and showed pictures to the professional of what I wanted and I specifically asked to NOT cut the top, first he didn't get me the style I wanted and two, he cut the top.

Services was performed on 11/27/23 at 12pm. I'm definitely not coming back to the historial UES barber shop, very disappointed about this experience.

Bruno is real professional, from the beginning and till the end my haircut he made by scissors- it's a level!

An optimistic looking barbershop, with murals on the walls and friendly personnel became even better when they "imported" Isaac, who previously had his own shop, and Veronica, who came here From Russia with Love. I have alternated between them, depending on availability, for about six years. They both give excellent cut and colors, along with a cup of tea, and all at a good price. Consider yourself lucky, as I do, when you book either one.

OMG! I called 15 minutes before I arrived and asked if they took walk-ins and they had me sat and cut and finished within 30 minutes of that phone call. The receptionist was so kind an amazing in the barber work fast efficiently, and this is by far the best barber I have had in New York City! The ambience was incredible. Pass by all the time and never went in until today. I like that they take their time and they did a great job too. I'll definitely be coming back here more often.

Today was the 6th time I've been to this barber shop in the last 2 years. In 6 visits my hair has been cut by 4 different people, because the first 3 (who had done great jobs) left due to poor treatment by the owner.

When paying, I was charged significantly more than usual. I asked about this and was told that their prices were increased due to Covid. I told them I understood this happens, but asked where it was posted or displayed in their store that the price had increased and why they had not mentioned it when I called to make an appointment. I was quickly referred to the owner who immediately got extremely defensive and worked up and told me that he was charging more by order of the governor of New York State. This is obviously a blatant lie, the governor did not order any business to charge more (but may have simply permitted it).

My issue is not and was never with paying extra, it was simply with the fact that the new, higher costs (which are more than just a couple dollars) were not posted or displayed or mentioned anywhere at all and came as a total surprise after the fact, when a customer would have no opportunity at that point to decline the service already completed. The owner then tried to tell me that he had covered the previous prices and ordered a new sign which was arriving Monday. Righttttt...Then he said the extra money they were charging was because they were going so far above and beyond, and that was absolutely not true because their COVID safety measures were the bare minimum at best.

I would HIGHLY suggest going to another place if at all possible. Hair cuts are now over $40 for a place with poor COVID safety measures and a disrespectful owner who clearly does not care about customer service.

I just went in for my first post-quarantine hair cut. Lauren did a great job, as usual. The measures they have put in place to protect the customers and the staff were thorough and reassuring. I was temperature screened outside before entering the shop. They are using disposable plastic body covers and everyone has a mask. Everything was very clean.

I appreciate the effort and will feel comfortable going back.

Probably one of my worst haircuts. First time here and won't go back. I mean this is supposed to have trained barbers who use scissors. I got a haircut that was done by machine 90% and it's so uneven. The people were nice but I'm there for the haircut.

The two negative reviews below me seem embellished? These guys are so friendly and accommodating, Enrique is the man! I've gotten more compliments about my hair from friends/family than I ever have before. Their prices are on their website, which is where you can book an appointment (they do take walk-ins as well). There is an old school NYC vibe on the inside, with Sinatra playing in the background. Unsure what else you would need?
