We went to see the Golden Revue.
When we entered the theatre I faintly smelled burned popcorn.
The man who sang with the telephone prop sing well.
The man who sang Never Walk Alone butchered what had been one of my favorite songs for years.
None of the women were memorable and the choreography left much to be desired.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Brian D.Pasadena, CA103072Mar 23, 2022
Cute little theater. Definitely a little run down but nostalgic and accommodating nonetheless. We thoroughly enjoyed our show there and would return again.

Saw White Christmas and had a great time and for a very very reasonable price! The actors were great, the costumes were spot on and I loved the free popcorn if you check in on yelp.
It was a little bit of a drive from the other theaters like the majestic. However, being from New York I thought the show was impressive for off Broadway and next time I'm in SA I'll be sure to check out what's playing!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 4, 2011
Just got back from our first show tonight and had to let everyone know about it.
For a local theater running their own productions, this place was TOTALLY awesome! The cast was not a touring cast but local talent instead. If you didn't read the program you wouldn't have known it though - they are simply that talented.
Even the sound, the lights, and the sets were awesome. I really have to give kudos to the group of people that are running this place - they have put a LOT of work into it.
Now for the boring stuff:
The theater was very clean, seats comfortable, bathrooms clean, staff friendly, and parking - eh, well parking is something else. We parked a couple of blocks down in the HEB parking lot. No big deal though.
They sell beer, wine, sodas, popcorn and candy in the front lobby area.
One final thing and then I'll wrap this one up - our original ticket dates were scrapped because my wife caught the flu a couple of days before the show. I called the box office and explained this and they made arrangements for my tickets to be shifted to a later date. Gotta appreciate customer service like that!!!
Keep up the good work WLT!
P.S. - Rocky Horror Show coming to Woodlawn Theater this October, 2011! You gotta check it out!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Mar 17, 2013
I have been to the Woodlawn twice now. Once they were gracious enough to donate their space for the Vagina Monologues (kudos for that). During that performance they offered a two for one deal on the Full Monty tickets. I was SOLD! I am so happy to see that they rescued this theatre and are trying to bring it back! The front entrance and neon sign out front totally set the scene! The cast for the Full Monty was WONDERFUL and that stage props were out of this world for a non-profit! They did a great job on the production!
Here is my list of possible improvements for the theatre itself... the bathrooms were a little rough, they spent quite a bit on the sinks which were very nice but the paint on the walls but a little crazy and you can tell it has about 100 layers under it. Replace the floral prints with a few theatre posters and that will be an instant easy improvement. There is a what I suspect to be an old neon light in the celling of the bathroom, get that back to working order would be a nice touch. The seats are a little old, once they get some money in the bank it would be nice to see the old or vintage looking red velvet seats. Also I was a bit disappointed they didn't have the balcony open. I think they are using it for lighting instead but I think it could be a wonderful addition to add that.
I think there is a diamond in the rough here. The performance was wonderful and I see so much potential here! I have worked in the non-profit field for many years so I understand what they are up against with funding. Keep supporting this theatre and good things will be in the works, I know it.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Anthony P.South San Antonio, San Antonio, TX11839114Apr 14, 2018
Great place to see live musical theatre featuring local performers. They always have a great mix of classic and newer shows. If you go on opening night of a show, you get to hang out with the cast and crew and celebrate with a glass of champagne. The theatre also hosts ASL night and benefit nights for local non-profits. If you have children or teenagers, make sure to check out the educational programs they offer. Support local theatre and catch a show at The Woodlawn.

Super fun theater fantastic value and more comfortable compare to pro theaters. Been here a couple times with wife to see musicals. I am not a theatre knowledgable type so I am obviously not reviewing the acting and what not. This is a community theater but productions still seem very well done. What I like the best is that it is a fraction of the cost of the Majestic or Tobin, but I find it more comfortable - and the beer is cheaper and the bathroom lines are less. I am a tall drink of water at 6'3" (even taller in my mind). The Majestic is very uncomfortable, Woodlawn however has plenty of space with cushy chairs that have cup holders.
We saw Rock of Ages there last night and there was a problem with the mics that was kinda annoying - but again community theatre. For the price this place is awesome.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tanya B.San Antonio, TX246941Jul 22, 2015
Went to see Mary Poppins, great show actors and props. Well worth it to see, sat in row J and seats were great. Talented staff and friendly reception. Meet and greet after the show was a fun experience. Great time for adults and kids.

Such a cool retro theater on the Westside!
This is a gem in the Deco District. Its neon green sign helps make the neighborhood so charming. It's got a nice lobby with snacks, popcorn, sodas, wine and beer. Be sure to check in on Yelp and get your free popcorn!
The seats weren't the most comfortable, and were a bit on the cramped side, but the small theater gives a real intimate setting, so there's not a bad seat in the house.
The usher staff didn't seem to quite have it together when we went, but we still found our seats promptly.
The sound and lighting were great for our performance. I think the entire crew and cast did a great job. The ticket prices were reasonable. I was happy to see that they've got a variety of acts that come through there.
Parking was a bit of a challenge. If you don't get parking right up front, you've got to cross Fredericksburg, which can be a bit dicey late at night when the theater lets out. There's poor lighting on the outside, so be careful.
I'll certainly return!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
