I like Whole World the most of anywhere in Columbus. It's the best vegetarian restaurant ever. There are so many good options on the menu, plus daily specials. It is also relatively inexpensive. This makes it better than any other vegetarian restaurant which often tries ripping you off and taking advantage of customers.
I have tried almost everything. There is so much that sounds so yummy. The vegan BLT is the best. It comes with fake bacon made from tofu, and topped with a soy mayonnaise. This is about $7 which is not bad. Also try the broccoli burger. It's been the most popular menu item. Be sure to say you want the vegan cheese. The cucumber sandwich is another. It's not only sandwiches that are on the menu. The pizza is good when you have more time to wait. It has a vegan one made with guacamole. The pizzas take about 20 minutes or more so maybe call them ahead. It also has many great soups. The broccoli soup was kind of chunky but it was filling. Oh yeah, the desserts are totally amazing. When finished we always leave with a few cookies or pieces of cake or pie.
I recommend Whole World to anyone who's a vegetarian or wants some better food. It has more selection than most any other vegetarian restaurant. The costs are pretty good too so you won't go broke there.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Mar 6, 2016
I happened to stop in on just the right nite!! Special of the day? Black Bean Plantain Burger. Quality sandwich? Yes sir! Great black bean flavor. The wheat bun was light. I decided to try their vegan mayo, and it was a perfect match for the sammie, and HEALTHY! I'd love to get my hands on that recipe.
We got there around 6, so there was only one other table of patrons. However, it steadily filled up over the hour or so, and plenty of customers by the time we headed out. I'm assuming this establishment has a great following! Especially considering Columbus doesn't have as many options for vegetarian/vegan-only places, IMO.
Bright, bold colors. Can't miss the giant mural on the front wall. Our waitress was polite. Never felt rushed. She was happy to describe any particular dish.
The casing of V+GF dessert cakes and cookies was age eat offering - a perfect ending to the meal. I wasn't feeling dessert then, but I promise I'll be back to try more of their healthy dishes!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 16250813001Aug 1, 2015
Whole World is a charming little vegetarian friendly spot in the heart of Clintonville. Their food is really delicious. The depth and richness of flavors in a wide variety of dishes at Whole World make it one of my local favorites time and time again. I've been a handful of times with family and friends and each time we go I get something different and it's all been deliciously yummy.
My personal favs:
***Greek Salad***
TONS of fresh veggies: carrots, cabbage, artichoke hearts, tomatoes, cucumbers, sprouts, red onion, & kalamata olives. The dressing is DELISH!
***Avocado Croissant***
I think what makes this so wonderful is the croissant. It is light, flaky, and you can tell it's not from Sodexo or Sams.
***Seitan Gyro***
This flavor-filled little gem is always a hit at the table. It has lots of veggies and I personally love the tahini sauce on it.
Oh, and it would be a crime to visit Whole World and not try one of their amazing bakery items. I am not going to lie--sometimes I go to eat lunch there just so I can hit up their dessert case afterwards. :-)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nick L.Asheville, NC495275375Oct 12, 2016
You know you've encountered a unique menu when the only plausible option...is to order two entrees. and that's exactly what happened to me at this wonderful little healthy restaurant.
At Whole World Natural, the menu is full of all sorts of unique items - anything from fresh made pizzas and mediterranean or greek or american or italian sandwiches (all with fresh made bread). And don't even get me started on the baked goods, which were constantly staring at me while I enjoyed my lunch today.
After reading the entire menu, I was torn between the guacamole, sesame seed, and sprouts pizza, and the eggplant meatball sub, so I ordered both.
If i could describe the meal in one word, it would be "fresh." The sub was warm and delicious, not overly sweet from the sauce, but just plain fresh. The pizza, chewy and delicious, was a very unique combination of ingredients that together taste like a trip to the farmers market in one plate.
Biggest downside was the wait time for the pizza, which was worth it! but not ideal for a quick lunch.
Would love to come back soon for some pastries, especially if they're sweetened with honey or agave instead of granulated sugar. Much thanks to the owner and their team!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tori L.Covington, KY1645970Jan 15, 2017
If you don't read my entire post, at least read this: I LOVE THIS PLACE.
I simply cannot rave about this restaurant enough. After living in Columbus, Whole World is my absolute favorite. I've taken every family member and every fellow foodie-friend. Being a vegetarian, I especially appreciate the takes on classics (all vegetarian and modifiable for vegans!) like really unique pizzas, BLT's, reubens, meatball subs, you name it. There's always a collection of daily specials and consistently a quiche of the day, veggie burger of the day, quesadilla of the day and multiple soups of the day. Their brunch is fantastic and very popular too!
I must also mention they have a glass case of baked goods that are both wholesome and scrumptious and that you can't help but ogle at while you're paying for your meal. And hey-you just ate a healthy meal, so why not finish it off with a little treat? It's nothing fancy, but delicious dishes that feel healthy and good for you. They even bake their own bread, like that's real.
The restaurant itself is small, but super cozy, full of rotating artwork, and always staffed with laid-back friendly service. I always feel at home here... probably because I'm such a frequent diner.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jen H.Moline, IL1249840May 20, 2016
This place was recommended by two different locals when I asked about vegan friendly restaurants. The seitan gyro was specifically mentioned & that's what I went with. I'm glad I did. The seitan was nicely seasoned. It could have been crisped up a bit as it was very soft, but the flavor was spot on! I ordered the platter because it came with a pickle & I love me some pickles. It tasted fresh & delicious! The blue corn chips were good & salsa could have used a bit of a kick but the flavor was decent.
I'm in Columbus for a couple months for work & I'll definitely be going back!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 91901483Jan 25, 2013
Went with three other friends for Sunday brunch last weekend. It was my first time at this place (definitely not a place for large groups, good for a group of four, no more) I have no problem eating vegan food, even though I'm a carnivore. I was in the mood for something sweet. It was a toss-up between the pancakes or the french toast (they came with fruit of the day- black cherries). I went with the pancakes, since one of my friends got the french toast. I figured I'd have a bite of her french toast. I love sharing dishes!
While waiting for the main meal, I went up to the counter and got two cookies- the thumbprint and the coconut. The cookies were crispy, and I liked both, but the coconut was my favorite of the two.
Our meals arrived after some wait, and my pancakes were light and fluffy. The black cherries were good. It came with a side of syrup. The dish wasn't overly sweet. My three other friends had the french toast, the broccoli burger, and hummus. I had some of the hummus, and the hummus was good (more of a solid texture than creamy), but I don't think that's a dish in itself. Had a bite of the french toast after seeing my friend wasn't going to finish hers! I liked the french toast better than my pancakes.. I really liked the flaky texture. Didn't get to try the broccoli burger, but my friend liked it.
Next time I'm getting the french toast! For lunch, broccoli burger.
I added pictures too.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Bryson L.West Hollywood, CA3652Jan 26, 2017
Just had the worst experience here. We asked the server how much a side of guacamole was and she came back with the price of $4.00. So we ordered it along with two regular priced entrees.
From the back we hear a younger guy start mansplaining about how it's not $4.00, that it should be more.
So we look at each other thinking that would be the end of it..
Then after about 2 minutes the guy starts getting louder about how an add-on to an entree is $2 and that we were not paying the right price for [a not very big] bowl of guacamole. That it should be $8.00 - absurd for the amount we got.
He continues on for about 5 minutes about how we are not paying enough and how his $13.50/per hour job doesn't pay enough for that..
Meanwhile we are at the table feeling extremely uncomfortable having heard all of this, debating whether or not to leave, we tell the staff sorry for causing the inconvenience - and then the manager just basically tried to deflect what we were saying to him instead of addressing the employee who made us feel that way.
Never coming back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Donna O.Columbus, OH192529311Jun 8, 2015
If you want the vegetarian experience from top to bottom, head into Whole World. It's not upscale, it's not high-brow, it's crunchy-granola, big cookies, seitan and lots of nutritional yeast and vegetables (of course).
The wonderful mural is a backdrop to a small, fun, homey space. Local artists' creations line the walls (this most recent visit, it was the artwork of our waiter). Depending on how busy it is, you may need to wait for a table or be waved in by the staff to sit wherever you'd like. The daily specials are listed on a chalkboard, and everything is noted as to whether it is or can be made vegan.
Onto the food. If you eat anything at Whole World, it's gotta be soup, with their homemade bread. I crave this stuff when I've been eating badly and need to reset my taste buds. Anything from Mexican barley to tomato basil to kale and potato - the specials usually include at least two soups each day. A slice of toasted bread and I'm set.
Their menu has not changed much over the years. Huge salads with plenty of veggies (and homemade dressings that are to die for), unique sandwiches with creative ingredients - an eggplant-"meatball" sub, seitan gyros, veggie croissant, and the Deb's on Black - whatever you're craving, it's there. They also have pizzas which can be made vegan, and a delicious hummus and veggie appetizer. You will leave feeling full, and happy.
And if you are still craving something sweet? Whole World is the original natural bakery! A display case at the counter shows off their big cookies, brownies and other goodies. Nothing over the top, just really, really good.
No schtick, no gimmicks, no "chik'n," just deliciously-made healthy food.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Shea H.Seattle, WA92255995May 7, 2014Updated review
I'm a total fan of Whole World. Sure, they are not always consistent. For example, their vegan sweets have been pretty crumbly and dry lately (throughout the early part of 2014) but overall, WWNRB is a really great place with kind staff.
They have a variety of specials everyday but I usually stick with the vegan BLT. I've even begged to buy the tofu-bacon in bulk. They don't offer that option but the waitress kindly gave me some to take home. How sweet is that?
We've ordered the greek pizza on numerous occasions and even served it to some avid-carnivores and they loved it.
They have plenty of vegetarian & vegan options and serve up the most amazing vegan pancakes on the weekend.
Street parking is always easy to find. The only thing this place needs is free-wifi.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Apr 18, 2013Previous reviewI have been here twice. The first time was amazing. Oh my gosh, the "B"LT (made with shockingly delicious tofu-bacon) with added avocado was delectable. A year or so later, I returned for that BLT and was immensely disappointed. Perhaps this place was having a bad night (although there was only one other customer in the place) but the food was just so-so all around. Again, I've had a really awesome experience here so I will give this place another try later.
I don't think there is a lot nearby so street parking it is.
And if ordering to go, call ahead because it can take a while (cause it's oh so fresh, I hope :)
