Urbane Cafe

Urbane Cafe is my favorite eatery. The food is fresh and always consistently good. I have been to several locations all with the same great menu items. I usually order the Ahi salad which is my favorite or the cilantro chicken salad. All of the focaccia sandwiches are great, the SoCal and Un ban Chicken sandwiches have an awesome flavor. Tom the manager and Joel the company's chef give great service and the best food around.

I don't write reviews often, but I approached Xiomara when I received my to-go order and asked her name to write her a review. She was stellar. Absolutely on top of things, checking on orders, apologizing for any delays, verifying things were correct, and all over the place from behind the counter to helping package and distribute meals - all in a very calm and humble manner. I don't think she is the manager, but she has great qualities for that role if she ever aspires to do that. Thank you for excellent service and making my experience a great one!

If you go to Urbane Cafe, honestly skip the sandwiches. They are just okay. You need to get the Salmon Bowl. This is the perfect combination of sweet potatoes, brown rice, Salmon, and Kale. I would get this bowl anytime I come to Urbane Cafe.

The sandwiches are mediocre and the reason why I knocked off a star.

Love their food! Best sandwiches! We had the Chimichurri steak and the UC Banh Mi both awesome! Service was great!

About a year ago I was standing in line here with my wife and I got into trouble because I don't know when to keep my damn mouth shut. I should be used to it, it happens all the time.

I made what I thought was a fairly innocuous statement based on my observations during previous visits.

I said, this is a woman's restaurant. My wife looked at me sideways and said what does that mean? She's a much bigger fan of Urbane Cafe than I am, and immediately I knew was stepping on her toes with my comment.

I said look around, the place is busy, all the tables are taken, and there's only me and one other guy in the whole place. She said, so?

I probably should have paid attention to the big flashing signs saying Trouble Ahead and looked for a conversational offramp, but I foolishly kept talking.

It's this way every time, I explained. You rarely see men in here. And when you do, they're nearly always with a woman. It's super rare to see two or more men eating together here like at a normal restaurant.

Soon as I said that last part I could tell by the expression on my wife's face I had gone way too far.

Normal restaurant? So this isn't a normal restaurant!? You don't like this place? You want to go somewhere else?

No, it's cool, I like this place, I truthfully replied. I'm just pointing out that it's a very woman friendly place. I was scrambling desperately to do Damage Control.

I think it's great, I continued, for women to have a place where they can get salads and healthy sandwiches. I guess that sounded a little condescending or patronizing, or both, I don't know. But I knew it was time to shut up about it when she rolled her eyes. So I shut up. Lol.

That was a year or more ago.

Today I placed an online order for pick up. I love ordering ahead online and having the order ready when I get there. They were super busy, with a line almost out the front door, but because I had prepaid online I was able to walk right in, find my order and be on my way.

I've found that my order is almost always ready before the time promised here. Usually by 5-10 minutes. That's good to know if you want to get ahold of your food while it's still warm.

When I got home my wife asked me, was it all women inside? It's been a year since I made those ill-advised comments but she hasn't forgotten. Women never forget anything, especially ill-advised comments.

I pretended I had no idea why she was asking and said, huh? All women? I just shrugged and said don't know, I didn't notice.

But it was in fact almost entirely women inside. Lol.

Just to be clear, I love the sandwiches here. Today I had a UC Banh Mi and it was freaking great! I usually alternate between that sandwich and the Turkey Cranberry Brie. Both are Fire.

I've had their Ahi Tuna salad a few times too, and I loved it every time.

When I eat here I feel like I'm eating healthy, but not like I'm eating health food, if you know what I mean.

I think Urbane Cafe is kind of unique that way. I see it as a compliment to say it's a woman's restaurant. Based on my observations, it seems clear to me that most women are far more careful about what they eat than men. Not all women, of course. Plenty of women like unhealthy food too.

But if you ask a man where to go for a healthy meal, you're likely to get a blank stare as a response.

If you ask a woman, she'll likely say, Urbane Cafe.

Urbane Cafe is one of my favorites. I dont like to go to chain places and prefer local but Urbane Cafe is an exception. It is my first time in this location and it wont be last. I have been to few different locations but this location was outstanding.... I made an order online and came here and within few minutes it was ready. It was ready before the time that it was suppose to be. Despite the restaurant being super busy and orders were full in the carts, it was outstanding experience. Staff were very friendly, quick and helpful. I had my favorite cilantro chicken. It is a big amount and amazing taste. I really enjoy it.... I highly recommend it to everyone... Will return soon here and recommend it to friends and family.

Came in and had trouble paying with my card. Jimmy was working and was kind enough to solve the issue. Great customer service and the food was delicious!

Needed to go get groceries and also lunch.

I knew there was a Panera bread near by but then saw Urbane Cafe.

I had seen it in multiple places and decided to try it.

I am glad i did since it was really good and just what I needed.

I got their Turkey Brie Cranberry Sandwich. The combination was delicious. I wish there was a bit more cranberry sauce. Half way thru my sandwich I remembered about the cranberry sauce since I hadn't tasted it.

I really enjoyed the side salad it comes with. It was a good amount of dressing. Enjoyed the tangerines it came with.

I was with my son so I got him a PB & J with fruit. He really enjoyed it. More than he needed so was able to take the leftovers home for his dinner.

I am glad i was finally able to try it. Will be going back for sure.

I usually do online order and pick it up for lunch. Never had a hiccup with orders, which I appreciate because lunch time is usually a wee hectic and planned out.

The peanut sauce salad is my go to! Right amount of vinaigrette and peanut---y goodness. Appreciate that the business started from Ventura and they have quickly grown to neighboring cities.

Also love that they're usually involved in Community events like school fundraisers and other collaborative non-profit organizations.

Omg the best food in Ventura California located off telephone, right off the 101 freeway. I'm talking the Ahi tuna bowl was fantastic! I'll definitely be recommending this location to all my friends. A special thanks to the associate Susie for well just being Awesome people.
