Let's face it. Facials hurt. Plucking zits, white heads and getting waxed aren't painless! The face shoulders and arm massages are great, but the "main event" requires tolerance.
In the name of vanity, we at least don't need to hurt our pocket books to get work done by a professional named Sandy who's owned this place for 25 years.
Instead of a private room and silence, is a communal space with curtains and ladies speaking in Cantonese. They know exactly what they're doing, but won't necessarily tell you what's next. It's a simple clean space and our eyes are closed 90% of the time, so it's fine with us, for the money saved.
By appointments only. Just text Sandy.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 17, 2023
Sandy is the best!
For SF you can't beat her prices. The quality of her service exceeds what she charges.
During my collagen mask she gave me a 30mins massage! Burke Williams doesn't even offer that!
Sandy is also the sweetest!! Make sure to tip well because she works hard!
Thank you Sandy!!!Helpful 4Thanks 2Love this 2Oh no 0 - 21178240Dec 22, 2023
Came here for a $55 90 minute facial that included a head and shoulder massage...yeah, can't really complain haha. If you're looking for a relaxing atmosphere with calming music and privacy, this ain't the place for you. If you're looking for a place that can analyze your skin and tell you your skin type and also help you develop a skincare routine, probably also ain't for you. However, if you're looking for a super affordable option and dont mind sharing a room with others (separated by curtains), smelling incense, and hearing other voices while you get your face massaged, extracted, and pampered...this could be for you haha.

Sandy is sweet! I've been going to her for a long time. She's probably been waxing me through my hoodlum sunset girl days and now as a respectable member in society
I've also gotten facials from her now that I'm an old person. Super quick, detailed and good prices. I never wait either and she'll try to scope out front row parking. You can text her and she takes last minute appointments. Cash preferred and takes card.

Sandy runs this small, no frills skin care establishment. I normally see her for an eyebrow and lip wax service. She's friendly and always flexible with scheduling. I live in the Sunset and used to go to a high end esthetician in the FiDi. Services were overpriced and not worth the time and effort to get there. I found Urban Beauty by coincidence and have been very pleased.
I highly recommend Urban Beauty. Local business that deserves your patronage!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 1 - Hannah H.San Francisco, CA23339Jul 19, 2023

Honestly, Sandy is still the best! Ever since Covid things are a little slow and especially in the beauty industry. So my previous review noting it not being peaceful is not necessarily accurate today. I had a facial appointment as the first appointment in the morning at 10 AM and it was just me and Sandy so it was quite relaxing. She always checks in with you to make sure the temperature of the steamer and the water are good for you and also if her massage pressure is too firm. Honestly I'm just so impressed with her massage skills. I've never had a facial with the level of massage that she provides. You truly get the most for your dollar. Now a full facial is $55 and a basic facial is 50 which is still a great price. She uses good call of European products and my skin feels so moisturized and clean afterwards. I am still a devoted fan and would recommend her to anyone looking for a great facial at an excellent price. She also wears double masks to protect you if you're worried about that sort of thing. And before she would massage your hands and arms and doesn't do that anymore but still will massage your neck scalp and chest. It is still an absolutely wonderful way to spend an hour and a half.
Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Apr 22, 2017Previous reviewAbsolutely love this place. I've been here on and off for about 10 years and this is the best facial in SF at the best price. $40 gives you a "full facial." For $5 extra you get extraction. It's basically like an an hour and half face, neck, shoulder, and arm massage. It feels truly amazing! For this price, I would say the only cons are the ambience. You don't have a private room, but instead you share one large room with others getting facial separated by drapes. She doesn't really bother me. Also Sandy the owner doesn't have a reception it so she does take calls while doing a facial and she might be speaking kind of loudly to her coworkers or customers. You're coming to get a facial and a peaceful quiet environment this isn't exactly super quiet. Still is very relaxing though the massage is so amazing and my face feels great afterwards. I would 100% recommend a facial from Sandy or any of the girls here they do a fabulous job.

If this is your first time getting a wax, I wouldn't recommend coming here. I was definitely a bit scared coming into Urban Beauty, given its dated interior (really a hole in the wall). It's definitely not a relaxing spa experience, so I was pleasantly surprised with Sandy's thoroughness and the amazing prices of her services. Sandy will ask you to help pull your skin taut (not the most luxurious spa experience), but she will get every single hair. She'll go over everything with tweezers and a magnifying light, unlike many spas I've been to in SF who don't take the time to be as thorough. The wax itself isn't that painful either and she makes sure to ask if the temperature is okay. She also makes sure to take her time with the entire process.
I was also impressed when Sandy, the owner, was able to answer all my questions about how she cleans her materials. She pours the wax into a disposable cup, so there's no double dipping involved. She sanitizes the tweezers after every client, and washes all the towels and sheets. She even explained to me that she has been the owner of the salon for decades, and that it was too troublesome to renovate the place since she's nearing retirement age. Just as long as everything is clean, she's satisfied. Definitely reassuring, since the inside of her salon and the rooms look very outdated and cramped.
It's easy to book an appointment with Sandy--you just text her and she replies almost instantly, and can take same-day appointments most of the time. If you pay in cash, you won't need to pay the extra fee. Prices here are roughly 50% of what you'd pay at any other salon in the city. Plus, it's right next to some really great food options in the Sunset (Kevin's Noodle House, Szechuan Cuisine, T-Pumps). Definitely give Sandy a visit if you're a seasoned wax-goer and are looking for a great deal!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Paula E.Chino, CA155114Jun 19, 2021
