Tops Bar-B-Q

This place makes a good burger but it's not worth the hassle of waiting in a long line, repeating the order 10x or more bc the cashier isn't paying attention, or looking at the grimy floors, walls and tables. There are lots of other good burger places and WAY better BBQ in the area.

We were flying into Memphis and ordered a pick up order from
the store at 4199 Hacks Cross Rd in Mem. Apparently the employees can not
read at this store. 1. ordered sweet tea and got unsweetened. 2. ordered sweet heat bbq chips and got hot and spicy bbq chips. 3 ordered a large
pork sandwich the tops way and there was no sauce on the sandwich.
ordered a pound of pork 1qt beans and 1 qt slaw. We were given no sauce for the order. The toast app doesn't let you ask for special requests.
We would have ordered lemon with tea and the sauce packets needed for the meal. Maybe I assumed that sauce would come on the sandwich and when ordering basically a family pack there would have been sauce put in with the meat. All know what happens when you assume. DO NOT USE THE TOAST APP. THERE IS NO PLACE TO AT A MINUMUM ASK FOR SAUCE.
The app is not sufficient for making a complete order. CALL THE STORE
TO ORDER. Did not notice the order was wrong until 15 miles down the road and its not worth our time to return to get order corrected.
suggestions: get the toast app updated to add special requests, make sure employees can actually read if they are filling orders. I am almost 100%
sure I get sauce on pre made sandwiches at the store we normally go to...make sure staff know what the tops way actually means when building a sandwich, perhaps instruct the staff to throw 4-5 sauce packets per pound of meat sold. Why would we patronize your bbq establishment and not
get sauce with our meal????? lastly DO NOT USE APP IF YOU NEED LEMON OR SAUCE ON YOUR SANDWICH OR WITH YOUR ORDER-- YOU WONT GET IT!!!
I will bet Tops BBQ will not follow up with me.

Okay yesss! I've been hesitant to try this place mostly bc of the yelp reviews but I literally drive by it all the time so finally my curiosity got the better of me. It's a small area anyway, but they are operating take out only during Covid. It seems like the crowd that comes to this location is locals.
The service was interesting lol. Not rude just very matter of fact. I originally ordered a turkey burger with all white meat (as the menu states). She informs me that the turkey burger is a frozen pre made patty. Okay bet, lady. Cancel that healthy choice lemme get a brisket sandwich with slaw & French fries.
That sandwich was so good!!! They were not at all stingy and my brisket was tender and full of flavor. Around $10 for sandwich two sides and a drink.
I'll definitely be by passing fast food places to come try their burgers, which I've been told are top tier.

Just went through tops on summer Ave. l received the nastiest and gross barbecue I've every gotten from any barbecue restaurant and I've lived here my whole life. nothing but fat. I'll never eat at tops barbecue again and will not recommend to anyone to go there. NASTY!!!!!!

We had a terrible experience at the Tops on Hacks Cross Rd. We were driving in to town from Austin and knew we would be in the area around 9:15 - 9:30pm - so to be safe we pre-ordered online for a 9:45 pick up. When we arrived they gave us a very light bag that did not seem to contain our order (our order being (1) Sampler Platter w/2 sides, (1) Chicken Sandwich combo w/2 sides and an iced tea, and (1) Turkey Burger). When we looked in bag it was just the meat portion of the sampler plater, no sides, no chicken sandwich, no iced tea, no turkey burger. When we let them know the order was incomplete the gave us half of the sides and turkey burger, but told us they were out of the chicken sandwich and iced tea (who runs out of iced tea?). Note, we had placed the order two hours before pick up. At this point, we were tired and hungry and wished to return the food and get a refund. We were told that since we had placed the order online (Toast), we would have to go through them for a refund. We took the food that they had given us and went to our hotel, figuring at least we would have something to eat. When we opened up the sampler platter, it looked like they had scraped up all the leftover bits of pork and presented it as the meal. The platter was supposed to include ribs, brisket and pork - but only the dregs of leftover pork were provided. There was a "rate your experience" option on the emailed receipt, I expressed our desire for a refund, based on the quality and lack of food received. I have not heard back - they have a note on the receipt to contact them directly if needed, but there is no contact information anywhere. Plan B, I called the Tops BBQ headquarters number - not once, not twice, but 5 times! Every time I got sent to voicemail. NO ONE has returned my calls. I get it that, at the end of the evening some items may no longer be available, but that in no way justifies not providing a refund for the food items we did not receive, nor does it excuse providing inedible and incomplete food on an $18.99 plate. I really thought that with my persistence and follow through, Tops would step up to the plate and provide the much warranted refund we were requesting.

I would not recommend. We waited almost an hour just for a cold bbq sandwich. I will take any recommendations on a better tops location! Please & thank you!

I visited Tops on Rhodes Ave this evening, I ordered a jumbo shoulder chopped fine no sauce and large fries no salt. I said 3 times no sauce, chopped fine and no salt on fries large fries . I guess they fixed it the way they wanted because I didn't get what I ordered. Never going back!

I have been in the neighborhood for 20 years, please change your cook, it use to be the best one, not anymore, the slaw and beans was literally half the cup, my cheeseburger was so bad I threw it in the garbage. I really wasted my money. Tops please do better.

I left here without ordering any food. I was waiting in line and this guy a couple folks in front of me ordered a half slab of ribs. The lady taking ordered yelled to someone in the back the order of ribs. I heard someone yell okay then heard a door slam, then a second door slam, and then beeps. They freaking put his ribs in a MICROWAVE!!! I will not eat bbq from a freaking microwave. They should be ashamed of themselves heating up ribs in a microwave. I bet they chewy, dry, and nasty.

This is like the McDonald's of BBQ, except McDonald's is probably better. I was exited to try this place because people kept telling me to try it and I'm not sure why. I ordered the combo platter with ribs, brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was dry as a bone and had no sauce what so ever, same could be said for the pulled pork. The ribs were salvagable but not great at all. The sides were baked beans and coleslaw, but again nothing to write home about. My friend got the brisket sandwich and the bag was so greasy you could see through it. To top it all of, my meal alone cost roughly $28! I believe this is a chain so maybe the other locations are better and you order something other than BBQ, but if you want BBQ I would not recommend this place.
