Been going to Three for close to two years now. We are members of a few wineries at The Sugar Mill and Three never disappoints.

Our most recent trip was with a party of eleven. I felt bad because our reservation was for only six, but a lot of people wanted to go tasting with us, so I figured the least we could do was ask if they could accommodate us.

They were beyond helpful and understanding. They took us all in and ensured everyone had a great time. Many of our guests were first time tasters, and they happily answered all questions, and even helped everyone with some picture taking.

Thank-you again Three Wine Company. Can't wait to see you again!

Wine was good...they barely poured any wine. I asked questions about the wine and the guy working there seemed like I was bothering him. They were very friendly to the person ahead of me...very odd experience.

One Of The Friendliest Family-Operated Wineries You'll Find Anywhere!

      SITREP

I have been spending some Holiday Weekends down in the Clarksburg area, and so have managed to carve out a few afternoon treks over to The Old Sugar Mill ("The Mill"), where Three Wine Company ("Three Wine") is located.

      THE SETUP

The Mill is probably one of the most dynamic uses of old space I've seen in a long time: the approximate century old mill factory buildings & grounds all over the compound have been refurbished beautifully so that they now house & support about a dozen(?) or so winery tenants, and all the support staff for The Mill's compound.

This is where you will find Three Wine, in the main building right after entering the main entrance. It's an absolutely beautiful set-up, and I had such a kick chatting it up with the Grandmother-Grandson team who were being wine co-stewards this day! [Guys should be SO LUCKY to have an active nana that they can hang out and be in business with!]

      THE WINES

Three Wine's wines (say that 10 times real fast!) are delicious varietals, at very accessible price points. Whether Reds or Whites, I believe anyone will find at least one wine they like.
      https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/three-wine-company-clarksburg?select=Pbk-_errQoa_cijSEWuHIQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w

*REDS - I'm not a huge fan of reds, but I still appreciate a good varietal - I found that in BOTH their 2014 Zinfandel Old Vine and their 2014 Field Blend Old Vine - both were full-bodied (the Zin more so, the Field Blend more "refreshing") - both only $22 per bottle.

*WHITES & DESSERTS - this is what I like most, the sweeter the wine, the better [if I'm going for a more "full-bodied" taste-experience, I prefer to just transition out to Bourbon whiskeys and Stout brews, and get out of wines altogether by this point.] HUGE props to Three Miles':
      = Mendocino County Sparking Wine,
= 2016 Escapade; and especially their,
= S3X Riesling! Oh my GAWD!

      WINE CLUB!

Whether here at Old Sugar Mill - or wineries elsewhere - I have a problem when Wine Clubs become an excuse for "social stratification of classes". I saw that in places here like Elevation Ten, Heringer Estates, and Todd Taylor - totally turned off by their interpretation of "Wine Club".

      LESSON: "Wine-Club-Snobbery" turns off MANY potential customers & it's a two-edged sword:
      (1) As mechanism for discounted bulk purchases & shipping, it's great;
      (2) But as an excuse to deny customers "access" - via their space-bifurcation of the taste room(s) between regular customers and their club-members - NO BUENO.

What I LOVE about Three Mile's interpretation is that right off the bat, they take the pretentiousness out by calling it their "Dirt Club!"
      https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/three-wine-company-clarksburg?select=sd_lFfPr0T8SnyEZj4Yb6g&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w

And the 20% discount is amazing gimme to their members of their Dirt Club. AND, they don't bifurcate their wine patrons into artificial classes in different areas for purposes of wine-tasting.

      THE LOWDOWN

      A great, fun wine-tasting experience!

If you are casually hitting all the tasting rooms at the Sugar Mill, a must visit is Three Wine Company. I love Matt Cline's Zinfandel and it's a great start at the Front Bar. But our Party of Six had a reservation for the Food and Wine Pairing. Margaret Cline created an incredible Table Seating set up and led us to the back cavernous room where we enjoyed the mellow vibe. A Great Five Star Experience.

I am currently a wine club member at this location because the wine is phenomenal! I have loved every experience I have had wine tasting at this winery located inside the Old Sugar Mill. The staff are always super friendly and the wine speaks for itself as it is outstanding. I have purchased multiple cases of wine from this company. Definitely give them a taste if you happen to find yourself at the Old Sugar Mill as you will not be disappointed!

Three Wine Company s great' i first was introduced to these wines at a wine tasters dinner! Mike Cline did a fabulous job with his presentation! The wine pairing great! We were heading to the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg and decided to introduce the wines to our friends. They were friendly, , welcoming, generous and knowledgeable! They honored our 30% discount from the dinner we attended and added several wines to the tasting experience!

I have mixed feelings about this place. I love the wines and they have a beautiful space at the Old Sugar Mill. However, although their website mentions sustainability, they have an employee who referred to the climate crisis as a "warming trend" and not really anything to worry about. Denial of this existential threat that we all face and will do us in if we don't all do everything we can to mitigate it ASAP definitely left a bad taste in my mouth in contrast with a delicious red. If owners/ management read this, I suggest they invite science-denying staff to zip it on this topic.

Their Contra Costa Zinfandel and the their Escapade Blend are both solid choices. We love this place.

My daughter was married June 13th and we had a lot of family in town for the following week. Being Dirt Club members we 'thought' Three Wine Company was open on Thursdays so we brought the family to the Sugar Mill for some tastings. I found the doors closed but a slight nudge they opened and found tasting room manager Matt McCollough sitting behind a computer and willing to host our party of ten for a tasting.

Needless to say Matt was awesome! He pulled out a bottle Escapade and gave our family a very good education on wine tasting through Matt Cline's very excellent 1885.

Uncle Anthony was nearly in tears and my brother in law John said it was the best experience wine tasting he has ever experienced.

Three Wine Company is truly a gem.

Guess how many wines are included in the complimentary tasting?!? They have over 10 if you pay $5.

While you contemplate this mind jogger I want to tell you about three wines that I liked.

I am not much for Reisling, but my goodness they make one that grabs your attention. Art is art, and that is a good bottle.

They also have a 105 year old vine Zin that is very nicely balanced between spice and nice.

They also have an 85 year old vine Zin that is good, but not quite as good as the 105.

They lady pouring was very cool. This is a great stop in the Old Sugar Mill.
