The Story Cafe

Story Cafe - A place that I have been sleeping on all this time.... I'm not sure why I never checked it out despite so many people telling me what a great place this is for non-Asian alternatives in Richmond. I decided to do a brunch here with my gfs on a Sunday afternoon. We waited approximately 20-30 minutes and were sat promptly on the patio. The restaurant has a rustic and storybook vibe (hence story cafe haha) ample seating.

Appetizers:
The burrata and beet purée salad was very standard and self explanatory but still delicious. I felt like the purée was a way to get more beet flavour across the entire salad compared to some salads that just have diced beets in them. Truffle fries were yummy, I love how thick they were cut.

Mains:
The pasta was great - the pesto flavour was perfect and not too salty with perfectly cooked al dente noodles and a good portion of prawns and chicken. The scallop and fried chicken gnocchi was something new that I hadn't tried before at any other restaurant and it was very delicious! Cheesy gnocchi - who can say no? I think I was impressed with the fact that everything was not too salty or overwhelming for my taste buds.

Service was prompt and friendly and food arrived really fast which is always a plus. This is a great spot for non-Asian brunch cravings especially in Richmond - a place that is overly saturated with Asian food. I definitely want to come back and try their dinner menu!

5/5 for service and presentation. The dishes were well plated, you could tell a lot of care was put into how the food and drink was presented. The staff were super sweet and attentive.

3.5 for taste. The food was good but nothing extraordinary. I think some of the dishes lacked flavor. We got the beef pappardelle and cheese ravioli with lobster. The mushroom soup was decent.

The drinks looked good but we got the mistletoe and margarita and both tasted (and felt) like there was no alcohol in them.

Decor inside was cute, and there was live music. it was all in Cantonese and even though we couldn't understand any of it, the artist was great and a nice addition to the meal.

Definitely a romantic/cute date night.

The cutest night dinner vibe! My family ordered a few appetizers (mussels, carpaccio, wings, escargot), ribeye, and 2 pastas (linguine carbonara and beef pappardelle).

Everything was absolutely delicious! Our waiter was extremely friendly, tentative, and orders came out quickly.

Waffle and French toast are great but the eggs benny and fried chicken are really tasty.

The occasionally musical entertainment is classy making the evening a true joy.

Make reservations. Small location, that is very popular. Food and service is great. Seems to be popular with groups.

When I pulled up, there was plenty of parking and right away also noticed it was quite busy for brunch. I was told it would be a 30 minute wait which ended up being only about 15 minutes. We were seated with our waters and the server got our order right away with our free coffee for checking in.

I got up to use the washroom which is this awkwardly placed door right in front of a table (wouldn't want to be them after I'm done). It was a little hard to find since there's so much kitschy decor around. I'm not sure what theme they're trying to achieve (garage/man cave?)

The food arrived shortly thereafter and it looked delicious. The eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked and it looks like they use high quality eggs enriched with Omega because the yolks were almost orange! The waffles were served with honey and homemade whipped cream (yum).

Both plates came with a fresh fruit cup but they were not consistent with the variety for each. I was also disappointed that I was never offered a refill on my coffee but overall the service was adequate and the food was delicious.

I originally intended to come here for brunch with friends but accidentally ended up going to HH as we woke up late haha. Although it looks a bit small on the outside, it actually decently big on the inside with both inside and outside seating.

My friends and I ordered a couple things from their HH menu (in my picture) and they were all delicious. My favorite were the wings and pizza, but I would honestly recommend them all. Although I didn't get any drinks, my friends got some lattes that they said were pretty good. Service here was also amazing, super quick, and very sweet. Would definitely come back.

One of my favourite restaurants to go to. It's definitely off the beaten track but there's so much to offer. On some nights, they have live music which adds amazing ambience to their venue.

... and there food & service is top notch! We had their shrimp and scallops. Beautifully seasoned and well cooked. Super delicious!
Of course, I had to try their mushroom burger which was excellent. Loved how it was seasoned and everything you'd expect. The upgrade to yam fries was very well worth it also.

Ended off with their cheesecake. Creamy, delicious and a great night cap while listening to their performing artists.

Good point to rest with a cup of hot coffee and environment! I like the coffee better, so relaxing!
