let me start with: what a cute spot! the interior was nice (and had a gorgeous bar!), and it's location on passyunk made a window seat prime real estate for people watching.

this was my first time trying a dutch baby and honestly, i don't think i need to get one again! no fault of the fine people of the dutch, i just don't see myself ever craving one when it's just a thicker-in-parts crepe, imo. i think im just a normal pancake girlie at heart, but i wanna thank the dutch for finally giving me the chance to try one after years of wondering what they tasted like after watching that one ep of bobs burgers.

my friend had a breakfast sandwhich which she really liked, and while i couldn't try that one myself (vegetarian), i definitely will come back here to give them another try with one of those sandwhiches or an omelette.

      great spot to people watch

You know it's a bad experience when you're sitting in the car writing the review.

We're seated after an hour wait As we sat down we were told there's only one chicken and waffle left so we quickly claim it before we even order any of our other items. We place the rest of our order for a sweet Dutch, avocado toast, chorizo hash, rueban sandwich, and steak and eggs (medium rare). Two parties, one of 2 and one of 4 get seated after us and order. We wait and wait and wait. We ask in the midst of our waiting (50 mins to be exact) how much longer and we're told we're the next table. Great! One of the two parties had gotten their food and was well into their meal. The other party of 4 had gotten their food (burgers and pancakes) and is well into their meal now too. Yet we were the "next table" but we were still starving and waiting.

Another waitress comes and says they're plating our food. One by one the food comes out. The avocado on toast with a side salad came with onions had to be sent back because that person requested no onions because she can't eat them.

The Sweet Dutch comes out and we requested fruit and my daughter specifically asked which fruit and we were told blueberries, strawberries and bananas ($4 charge). Her dish came without strawberries. We asked another waitress and she said they have to check if they have any. Why is no one on the same page? She brought out the sliced strawberries.

The waitress comes out mid meal to ask how our meal is. Mid honestly. She asked if I wanted extra hollandaise sauce (upcharge $1) and then shortly after a man comes out the back, I'm assuming the chef and goes "who asked for more hollandaise? And I said me and he says "we're out". Whatever I'll enjoy the rest of the dry meal.

My husband tells the original waitress the disappointment in the service and the meal and she says she'll get the manager to see what they can do. No manager comes out. Another waitress does and we explain the same thing verbatim as I typed above and she says there's nothing they can do because every table waited over 45 mins and the other tables ordered things that didn't take as long and we had a large party. We had 5 adults and 1 child. Ma'am we were seated at 1:30pm the restaurant closes at 2 if you thought that what we ordered would have taken an hour to arrive, someone should have said so. Also what exactly in our order took an hour? Trust me we did ask and she said the steak and chicken. Especially since the steak looked like a 6oz and again medium rare. The chicken is chicken. What chicken thigh takes an hour to fry? But she also people who ordered burgers and fries allegedly waited 45 mins? So we're just okay making customers wait for basic food? I don't accept that excuse or the standard this restaurant sets for itself. It was such a back and forth with changing stories and excuses.

There was no accountability and everything was an excuse for why the "manager" who never came out didn't come out. Apparently the man who asked me for hollandaise was the owner. The waitress asked if we want him to come back out. It really just felt like if he was the the owner, he was sending his waitresses to handle his problems.

The bill came $238 with 20% gratuity, liquor tax etc included. I hope our $238 keeps them afloat because not even trying to accommodate or at least apologize for the inconsistent service, communication, incomplete dishes and just bad vibes leaves much to be desired.

Would I recommend this spot? Hard pass on the taste of the food and service overall, but it's in a great area so there's plenty of other awesome spots in neighborhood. It's never fun to leave a bad review but when the taste in your mouth after leaving an establishment makes you wish you never visited in the first place, what other choice do you have but to warn others.

I finally made my way to The Dutch this week after creating a book mark for this place way back when. I can thank Fox 29's feature, which mentioned the special "Soul Food" dinner for the reminder that I needed to make a dinner reservation ASAP. Unfortunately, I was a little too late for the soul food dinner as the early reservations were sold out. I opted for a Friday evening reservation instead.

I was greeted by a friendly young woman upon arriving who advised I could choose my seat. I decided to sit near the window at one of the tall tables. The dining room is a quaint, warm and welcoming. The hostess provided menus with "Happy Hour Specials" and I was OVERJOYED to hear there were two items still available from the soul food dinner. Thus, I decided to try the short rib mac n cheese for my appetizer(still available from the soul food dinner) , the steak frites for my entree and the banana pudding (still available from the soul food dinner) for dessert. I also had the blood orange mojito for my drink.

I'm going to skip straight to the food bc that's probably why you are reading this review. Haha.
The short rib mac n cheese was incredible!!! The short rib was seasoned and flavorful. It paired perfectly with the mac n cheese. I could taste the smokiness of the short rib in the mac n cheese and I loved it! Next up, the steak frites. Now, this steak rivaled some of the steaks I have enjoyed at the high end steak houses all over. It was a simple skirt steak, but it also was seasoned to perfection. I didn't need to add or subtract a single thing from it. The frites were fresh, hot and nicely done. Now, for dessert. The banana pudding parfait was light and delightful. It was topped off with some sort of butter cookie that I couldn't get enough of. The cream/pudding was fresh, airy and perfect. It wasn't too sweet and I didn't feel overwhelming full after finishing it.

I'd like to wrap up this review by saying my Dutch experience was top notch and I can't wait to make my way back to enjoy more dining options.

Great coffee, great service, and great food. I wish the dutch baby was a little bit sweeter or had more fruit, but overall really enjoyable. Also, I wish they had reservations. I tried to make one on their website but it seems like their system is no longer working. That was kind of a bummer

Always an enjoyable meal, especially brunch. I have loved this spot ever since its early days in Pennsport.
Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything to eat here. Everything is made with quality and the portion sizes are good.
      Great coffee too!

My daughter and I stopped in for Sunday brunch, we were in town for a trade show and didn't want to eat at the casino. What a great pick! The food was delicious, I had a huevos rancheros special and my daughter had an egg white omelette. Everything was so fresh and the service was great. Highly recommend!

My friend and I wanted to come here for brunch on a Saturday but when we checked earlier in the week, there weren't any reservations available. We decided to wing it with a walk-in and were actually seated pretty quickly, although the place was obviously packed.

My friend ordered the chicken and waffles. I got a veggie dutch baby and we got the pumpkin pancakes to share. Everything was amazing. I had never had a savory dutch baby before but it was the perfect way to change up the usual brunch fare.

The servers were nice, too- but I have to note that the service was super slow. I think it took 30-40 minutes for our dishes to come out. Still- I'll definitely be back here. It's earned a solid spot in my regular rotation of brunch spots.

Ever since The Dutch moved into this location, I've been in love with it! That's mainly due to the tofu scramble. As someone who's not really into breakfast I always struggle to pick something but not here. The tofu scramble is the best sized portion and the potatoes are perfect and the bread - can't forget about the marbled rye toast! Plus their in house grapefruit soda is so tasty - could drink 10 of those! On weekend mornings there's generally a bit of a wait but luckily being across from the fountain there's some seating options and great for people watching! Service is always quick and very pleasant! Try to get there bright and early and you won't have a big wait!

The Dutch is a hidden gem of South Philly. I stopped in while in town for a conference and had the most delicious savory Dutch Baby pancake. Since I usually go for the sweet ones, I couldn't resist giving this one a go and it did not disappoint.

The service was amazing and staff was super friendly. While it was busy, it moved fast and was definitely worth the wait.

Food was good - average brunch spot. Avocado toast was okay, I was not expecting a raw tomato with no salt or pepper on the toast (menu does say tomato but I thought it would be seasoned). The egg white omelette was B+, not over the top amazing but very good. Chorizo hash was tasty, well proportioned and would order again. Drinks were good - peach Bellini and bloody Mary's (a tad kick - which was great!) There are other local spots that I would want to try before dining here again.

We asked to be seated outside and unfortunately it smelt like urine, even our waitress smelt it. She was so nice and let us move tables but you could still smell it lingering which made eating an interesting experience.

Overall the team and service here was great! Food was good, and ambiance was okay minus the pee smell.
